thanks for the suggestions. it indeed was a memory limit problem with the PHP server. after modifying the .htaccess file to allow for a bit more memory, buddypress activated as desired. however, it looks like any time i make a configuration change in the wordpress settings, my .htaccess file is wiped out and replaced with […]

@r-a-y I’m beating my head against a brick wall trying to understand why BuddyPress corrupts my WordPress install. I’m using WordPress 3.04 and BuddyPress 1.2.7. The PHP server error log yields this error message:
