I have been trying to extend the multisite capabilities of BP by using the WPMU sitewide tags plugin, however the process seems to be failing on some pretty rudimentary (i.e. standard) WP commands – namely ‘wp_get_object_terms’ and ‘get_post_meta’. Does anyone know if this is a specific bug within BP, or if there is any reason why these commands…[Read more]

Well I’m glad it works for you. As I’ve said all along, the SWT plugin worked fine up to the point where I needed to pass through taxonomy meta data and I only persevered on the basis that this is one of the features the plugin is supposed to accomplish.
Of course I started off looking in multiple directions, the instructions were far from…[Read more]

I wish that were true Andrea. I can see two links, the first one http://wpmututorials.com/plugins/sitewide-tags-update/ hints at two filters, which I’ve used and had no effect. The second was to the genesis simple menus plugin https://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/genesis-simple-menus/, which has a sample filter (in the header comments) which…[Read more]

Thanks Andrea, I appreciate you’re only on here occasionally and yes I’ve read Ron’s post and anything else I can find that he (or Donncha or Boone) have written. As I’ve said many times now, the solution doesn’t work. I saw Ipstenu’s post over on wp.org and he misses the point. I am not asking for ‘free consultancy’ for something that I should…[Read more]

This bp.org community really isn’t working for me. Is there some privacy setting that is making my posts invisible, because despite asking genuine questions – only after investing time to ensure they aren’t dumb questions – I have only received 1 reply (and or acknowledgement) in 21 posts.
I don’t normally use support forums, preferring to…[Read more]

@r-a-y Sorry to badger everyone about this issue I’m having adding a filter to WPMU Sitewide tags plugin within BP. Here’s the trail of consciousness between myself and Ron Rennick, but I’d really appreciate help from ANYONE else with experience of plugins, no matter how left-field the ideas.
Please take a look -…[Read more]

In ‘Network Admin’, go to ‘Settings’ > ‘Settings’ and then the 3rd selection down (under Registration Settings) make sure you select the radio button ‘Both sites and user accounts can be registered’.
You’ll then find the Registration login widget enabled in the sidebar of your site.

@andrea_r Hey Andrea, I hope you don’t mind me asking you directly. I’ve been trying to figure out how to pass a custom taxonomy from a user blog through the sitewide tags plugin to be updated on the main tags blog.
Ron provided me with a code snippet – a filter to hook into ‘sitewide_tags_custom_taxonomies’, but no matter which way I turn it,…[Read more]

A huge limitation of BP at the moment (and WordPress in general) is the lack of front-end posting and moderation. I’ve had to hack this into my current site by using conditional user level statements to present a restyled admin screen to users – one which looks identical in terms of header, footer and CSS […]

Bump. Would really appreciate any responses to this post – it’s immensely frustrating asking for assistance with a real problem (i.e. one who’s solution would probably help others) and then getting zero feedback (even if that feedback was to say – don’t be a douche try this..) 😉

Judging by the lack of information when I perform a search, I may be one of the few people that has tried to get these plugins playing nicely together. When all is sorted and the site is live, I’ll post up a link to hopefully inspire a few other sites to try them out together. […]

Thanks @nahummadrid, my SWT blog is ‘already’ private and since my SWT blog is also my main site that little trick makes no difference to what appears on the activity stream (which of course is also on the main site). I can only assume most BP sites are not also running SWT otherwise there would be […]

Well this is frustrating. I implemented Donncha’s SWT plugin, which is working fine, apart from the duplicate blog posts in the activity stream. I have SWT using the main site as the tags site, so clearly the activity stream is showing both the original post (on a user site) and the ghost of that post […]

I would probably just use wp-pagenavi, which I’ve been using on wordpress sites for years now – https://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/wp-pagenavi/. Otherwise there are a host of possibilities. You’re using a container for your images, whereas I would normally use an unordered list, but you could do anything from using a continuous page (such as…[Read more]

DoctorDR started the forum topic Buddyvents – unwelcome changes to BP core group functions in the group How-To and Troubleshooting: 13 years, 6 months ago
I settled on Buddyvents as our event management plugin after looking at all the other options (Jet Events, Event Expresso, BP-events, etc..) – in my opinion Buddyvents is the most comprehensive and professional solution, vastly better than Facebook’s own capability and worthy of being a ‘paid’ plugin. Buddyvents works via custom post types, where…[Read more]

DoctorDR posted on the forum topic How to make Forum that does not associated with Group in the group How-To and Troubleshooting: 13 years, 6 months ago
Quickest solution would be to join Buddydev and implement the ‘Global Forum’ plugin – http://buddydev.com/plugins/global-forums/ You can see it in use on Bravesh’s own forum – http://buddydev.com/forums/ I personally prefer forums which link to groups, since this avoids duplication of topics. The other half-way solution would be to use…[Read more]
