Edited: This is easier for the end user. They just install and go. It only took a few minute for me edit and to make the zips.
This is something I’ve been wondering about too. The funny thing is they say “search the support forum” before you post a duplicate topic. lol Gee wouldn’t it help us follow that guideline if there WERE a search feature. It’s like me saying look at my homepage ” ” and tell me what you think.
PS – This is not a moderator issue this is a core team issue.
You can delete the wp-config.php file and you will get the installation wizard back without losing all your data. If you need to adjust for a domain name change or subdirectory installation change you can do so by exporting a csv and searching for the old install location (domain and subdirectory). Then just replace that with the new URL and import the csv to a clean DB. You will still have all your data this way.
Hope this helps.

I jumped the gun! BP FriendPress doesn’t work on 3.4.2 WP with BP 1.6.1…
When you click the logout button with this activated you can’t be logged out. You just end up with a blank screen.
We’re now running 35+ plugins at any given time now and maaaaybe one is conflicting but I doubt it. Anyways, we’ve got it figured out in our own plugin so no worries.
Paying it forward is a great practice I must admit.

If you’re using BP then you should have an activity posting field right in front of your eyes. It’s the main part of BP.

@shawn38, you are awesome! I hope they do add it to the core. That would be the best thing since craft beer!
I was told to “google it” by my best mentor and I have since been with the “do it yourself” attitude. I appreciated the push to learn on my own once I got it. Before I had the mentality of doing it on my own I did not retain much info and was constantly asking the same things over and over, making a fool out of myself.
I respect that people want to help others, but the person being helped should also try harder to help themselves, IMO. Where would the world be if everyone went around asking everyone else to solve their problems ALL the time?
This post was just a vent, an outlet for a bit of frustration, nothing more.
By modifying the code to deduct points for wrong answers! It’s that simple.
I would start by going to w3schools.com and reading everything they have on PHP. Then read the codex for BuddyPress. Then, read the code for the plugin you are using and use analytical thought processes to contrive your own solution.
Basically you want to write the reverse of the code you already have.
I’m sure you will figure it out. I have faith in you igid26!
I second that emotion @mattriggins. That’s how Facebook operates, one stream with you and your friends, one stream with just you (profile view). I still don’t get why they didn’t build BuddyPress that way in the first place.
I’m working on a plugin that does exactly what Facebook does but unfortunately it’s proprietary to the project I’m working on and our dev team doesn’t want to share. ):
Hint hint BP plugin dev community… Deliver one of these as described and you’ll probably make bucks selling it.
FriendPress looks interesting, possibly something we could build onto. Extended settings seems to be aimed at the very novice BP site owner. Most all of those extended setting can be handled with a custom theme.
The Skype thing is cool, we’ll be implementing it in a different way though.
We have started out with the following plugins and will be tailoring them to our specific needs:
BP (Obviously)
BP Profile As Homepage
BP Activity Stream Hashtags
BP Docs
BP Friends Online
BP Profile Privacy
BP reCAPTCHA
BP Verified
WP Custom Login Page
Easy Instagram
BP Skeleton Component (for all custom plugins)The above mentioned plugins (aside from BP) will be highly modified and contain only traces of the original code. Credit will be given to the original developers for the provision of the base plugin state and inspiration that leads us to our end result.
We’ve been consulting with a business advisor that used to work at Bain Capital. This is definitely a legitimate venture and we are very proud to say that we have chosen WP and BP as our core CMS and social networking engines.
Hats off to the great developers here at BuddyPress for providing a stable and reliable platform!
Paul, I’m not running with the r6330 patch on 1.6.1, I’m running it stock and it’s fine. The WP update crashed it so I made sure we had a clean fresh install and everything is fine now.
The only reason I mentioned the patch is because the WP update from 3.3.1 crashed BP posting. I Googled that error and found the patch and tried it but that wasn’t helping. So, be warned that you cannot update WP to 3.4.2 and still be compatible with BP 1.6.1. You must do a fresh install starting from 3.4.2 WP.
I don’t mess with the core unless I’m trying something on a testing/production basis purely for self satisfaction.
I’ll be happy to help out with any core updates that you need help with. Testing and debugging is my cup of tea. I have over 7 years experience with modifying WP plugins and have watched it grow from a baby. Also have over 15 years of experience with LAMP and a ton of free time 5 months out of the year.
I know a lot of developers would like to see changes in the way BP handles messaging. Have you guys considered streamlining and simplifying that functionality?
I use BP on 7 sites right now. Love it! However, It’s capable of so much more. Let me know how I can help.
I just had success on a different domain. I’m starting to think it’s the WordPress update process is what is causing this bug/error. I thought we had done a 100% fresh WP 3.4.2 install when in fact it was an update.
So, in order to avoid this bug you MUST install a completely fresh copy of WP 3.4.2 first then BP 1.6.1!
Performing an update to your old WP will rustle jimmy and cause the BP 1.6.1 install to throw this error.
Sigh… I hope WP fixes their update process because this is probably the most infamous and common bug known to the BP community. It’s also a pain in the boot.
Thank you for your response. It was very much appreciated.
Using a GoDaddy Account…
Install fresh WP 3.4.2 (My mistake an upgrade was performed from 3.3.1!)
Install and activate BP 1.6.1
Activate Default BP Theme
Patch as directed with r6330/r6331Try to post.
