Nope. Still doesn;t work. I made the php code work but looks like even though the code works now the page still doesn’t seem to recognize me as being logged in.
I think I see the problem. Looks like the new wordpress is commenting out the php codes, even though I have php-exec. Hmmm….
Just to clarify, I have echoed the following on the front page:
bp_adminbar_notifications_menu
bp_loggedin_user_avatar
bp_loggedinuser_link
bp_loggedin_user_domain… And nothing is showing up, when it used to.
Oh, I didn’t know there were times to post. Sorry. I did post the first time several days ago during the week (not as a forum post but as a group post, which I didn’t know and was confusing — and which is why I reposted, simply because I thought I posted in the wrong area). Then, the lack of answer led me to believe no one knew the answer (as you said), which is why, being an urgent situation, I was fully prepared to hire someone and added the 2nd comment.
And yes, this seems to be the case. The usernames that are problematic are those with spaces, which is why — as a temp fix — I added a note to the registration form telling people to NOT use spaces.
I’ll add the fix and report back.
Is there someone who we can hire to fix this? It’s important that we fix this ASAP as our marketing campaign has just begun.
@r-a-y do you have any ideas? Thank you for any help anyone can bring.
Jeff, what’s the solution then? Or how do we prevent this in the future? I read the ticket, but I’m at a loss. I’m encountering this problem right now, and I had to go into phpmyadmin to correct all the user_nicename fields to remove the -2 at the end. do we simply ask people not to put spaces in their usernames?
Sorry, I was looking for more direction. I’m not a coder. I thought using the_excerpt would work or something right after applying the patch. Not sure about which kind of code I need to write, as your answer was confusing, which is why I posted it in this thread.
Hmm. I’ve got the latest BP version, which has the https://trac.buddypress.org/ticket/2481 patch added, obviously. But I still don’t get my excerpts to show up — it still uses the fake excerpt created by BP rather than the post’s the_excerpt. Is there another bug?
Susan, I know this is old news, but I use Private BuddyPress:
https://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/private-buddypress/
It protects BP pages that are not protected by WishList.
OK, I found a workaround. I replaced the string ‘members’ to something else, like ‘students’ in files within the bp-themes and bp-groups folders. Works like a charm, now.
I’m seeking an answer to this issue, too. In fact, that bug is actually existing right here. Click on “members” at the top, and you get “this group has no members.” (For my blog, it just keeps me in the home page of the group. I can’t see a listing of group members.)
Help?
