I’m having that problem too…I’ve got profile fields set up for full contact information…phones, fax, address, etc. And all are clickable and search within buddypress.
It would be nice to have a simple check box next to the profile field to choose if the field should be searchable.

In reply to: Group Blog ErrorI just tried it again, linking to an existing blog and got the same error message…so that isn’t the issue.
Strangely, group blogs created in the past are still operational and can be reached from the Group menu.
Maybe it has something to do with the groupblog folder…

In reply to: Invite Friends From Profile@erich73 invite anyone works okay for inviting existing members to join your group. The problem is that, when you get to a few hundred members, the list gets overwhelming.
Giovanni’s Invite Friends plugin would be great if it was updated to work with 1.2.

FWIW, i’d like to see an extra column on the front page to the right of the activity stream. On mine, I would show featured posts…this would give a site admin some editorial control and turn a community into a news source.

Whatever it’s called, it seems like a critical piece to creating a self-perpetuating network. Anything we can do to make it easier for members to promote the network helps.
WPMU Dev Premium has an affiliate plugin that creates member-specific code tied to images.

A basic badge that links back to the member’s profile should be much simpler. To me, this should be a core function…

Point it…it’s not a URL, it’s the actual embed code…so I’m thinking that this plugin might not be the answer, no?
Ideally, the video could be embedded in the News section…but that is flexible. It just needs to be somewhere obvious and clear so students can easily watch and participate.
Somewhere between this and the Links plugin should be a way to make this work…

What I am hoping to accomplish is to have a “Featured Posts” column, along with the traditional sidebar and the activity stream.

I’m running some “classroom” groups in my community and am trying to find a way to embed a ustream player directly onto the group (“classroom”) page. Our presentations and chats are live…so it wouldn’t work to have to upload a video to these other services first. (although it would be great for video archives).
Thoughts?

This tweak would basically turn any community into a magazine/news site and it would turn down the “noise” in big communities.

Logged in users could see activity from their friends, groups, blogs they “follow”, and even sitewide posts by certain category or tag.
Maybe there would be defaults where certain “top news” posts are displayed to everyone. (which would be incredible for my real estate site)
It could be like an igoogle page…
