In reply to: Display blog post rating on activity stream
Hi @asd315
You should look at the plugin’s documentation to find out if template tags are provided and then copy the relevant ones (if available) into your activity template. For more info on template tags see the Template Tags article.
Can you provide a gist of the code you’ve written? People here might then be able to help.
In reply to: Trying To Get Access BBPress In My BuddyPress PluginI had a look at the .zip, in particular I looked at your class that extends
BP_Component. I noticed you’re not registering it as an active component. So inside your constructor method after your call toparent::start(), you can do:$bp->active_components[$this->id] = '1';It may explain why things aren’t working because you seem to be bootstrapping your component properly. Actually (I’m now thinking out load), try dumping the
$bpglobal just to make sure one of the global variables you’ve set shows up.In reply to: Page Not Found Permalinks Issue@mcpeanut good point. I think < 10 is a manageable number when it comes to updating. As you say, when you go above that number, you run the risk of bringing on a headache when it’s time to upgrade WP. Also, until WP bumps the required version of PHP to 5.3+ and namespacing becomes available, function naming collisions is another problem because some plugins use common prefixes.
In reply to: Page Not Found Permalinks IssueNot really that big of a list 26, ive had a site running 75 plugins efficiently
That’s the highest number I’ve heard of π But, if things run smoothly then why not! π
In reply to: Page Not Found Permalinks IssueDo you think that perhaps the plugin Iβm using, to block those several pages, could be causing the issue?
Is there any way you can disable it to see if the problem resolves?
Iβve always wondered if itβs normal that it says /forums/forum/?
example.com/forums/forum/is quite normal. I’m not hugely familiar with bbPress but I think there’s an option in the back-end to disable the base slug if you wish:example.com/forum/In reply to: Buddypress Registration FormYou could just provide your own template for the registration page (hence have your own custom registration form).
BuddyPress will use the following template hierarchy
/buddypress/members/index-register.phpCheck out the Template Hierarchy article for more info on how templates work in BP.
In reply to: Add some page to ProfileHi @gromozeka
You could create a new component but that isn’t required. Check out
bp_core_new_nav_item()for how to add items to the navigation. In reply to: Particular Dating SiteIn reply to: Buddypress Registration FormHi @feyrisa
Is that a way to add membership checkout to my buddypress registration ?
It will be possible but there isn’t a configuration setting that’ll do it for you (unless the plugin itself has a setting that allows integration with BuddyPress).
glad you got it working! π
Oh one last thing henry it turns out i didnt need to use the echo $count; at the end because it was causing it to echo 4 times on the page
That’s strange. I’m not sure why that would be happening because the echo statement should execute once only. Perhaps you’re running the code inside a loop which causes the count to display multiple times?
In reply to: lack of plugin developmentI heard recently at WordCamp London that the WordPress core team are considering introducing a button on abandoned plugins that lets developers register their interest in maintaining them. I’m not sure if that will happen but if it does then there is a chance that some of the older plugins that no longer work could be updated.
In reply to: Does buddypress support markdown?Hi @itkid
Does buddypress support markdown?
Not currently. A markdown plugin would be great for BuddyPress activity posts and comments, private messages and so on, but to my knowledge there isn’t one available right now.
In reply to: New plugin: Buddypress Profile RatingAlways great to see a new BuddyPress plugin! π
In reply to: lack of plugin developmentHi @matthias70
There are quite a lot of active BuddyPress plugin developers out there, although you’re right in that there’s not as many BuddyPress plugin developers as there are WordPress plugin developers.
Both kinds of developers overlap, so feel free to put plugin ideas out there, and who knows, maybe a BuddyPress dev (or a WordPress dev) will decide to build something.
Hey again @mcpeanut,
I’ve had a little bit more time this evening to look at this for you. I found that the notifications component provides a public static method
get_total_count()which can be used to get the unseen mention count. You can use it like this:$query_vars = array( 'user_id' => get_current_user_id(), 'component_action' => 'new_at_mention', 'is_new' => true ); $count = BP_Notifications_Notification::get_total_count( $query_vars ); echo $count;Hope that does the trick!
@danbp right, I see what you mean! π
In reply to: Is this a bug with Notifications?Great stuff! (and thanks to @danbp π )
Hey @danbp
More about this:
https://codex.buddypress.org/developer/function-examples/bp_notifications_add_notification/
@mcpeanut isn’t trying to add a new notification, instead the aim is to get the ‘unseen’ mention count.
what are the other 4 parameters?
They won’t help because it’s the count that you really need, and that is passed to the function. Everything else in the function is useless with reference to what you want to do.
To see how it all works, take a look at the BP core code, the notifications component section in particular:
https://github.com/buddypress/BuddyPress/tree/master/src/bp-notifications
You may find a function has already been written but my guess is you’re pioneering the way on this, and therefore would have to write something yourself (or open a functionality request ticket on Trac).
In reply to: Page Not Found Permalinks IssueHi @alice-kaye
That’s a huge list of plugins. My first thought is that the problem will be related to one of those. If that’s not the case, then the problem is likely to be your set-up. The easiest option in this case would be to set up a test site, activate all of those plugins and then do some testing to see if you can reproduce the problem.
In reply to: [Resolved] Admin Bar non showing when logged outHi @medianp
If you remove all custom code you’ve added, activate Twenty Fifteen and disable all plugins aside from BP, does the admin bar still fail to display?
Like the comment count, I’m not sure there’s anything for mentions either. The function responsible for outputting the count you currently see for ‘unseen’ mentions is
bp_activity_format_notifications(). It accepts 5 parameters, one of them being$total_items. That variable is what’s used when outputting the text “You have X new mentions”.But again, to my knowledge, there isn’t currently anything available ‘stand-alone’ that will do the job for you.
Hope this helps?
In reply to: Is this a bug with Notifications?Hi @mcpeanut,
Bug confirmed at my end using Twenty Twelve, WP 4.1.1 and BP 2.2.1. No plugins installed.
Can you open a ticket on Trac, reporting what you’ve found?
Hi @jaremilus
The stay-on-page prompt isn’t a BuddyPress thing. I think it’s coming from your browser. Alternatively, it might be from a plugin, if you have a plugin installed with that kind of functionality.
