Ah right! That seems to be quite an old resource, goes back to BuddyPress 1.5, I think.
Yeah, bp_activity_get_comment_count() will return the comment count for a particular activity item.
Sounds like you’re looking for a ‘notification’ count for activity comments? So for example, if I comment on an activity you’ve posted, the count will be 1. If two people comment on an activity you’ve posted, the count will be 2. At some point in time, you log in and view these which results in the count being reset to 0. Is that what you’re looking for? If so, as far as I know, there’s nothing like that available currently. You could always open a request on Trac asking for the functionality to be added?
Hey @mcpeanut
bp_friend_get_total_requests_count(), bp_notifications_get_unread_notification_count() and messages_get_unread_count() are actually functions. I do believe each returns a count. Regarding comments, are you looking for a function that gets the comment count?
In reply to: Implement new blogs on Main BlogI want the member sites (subsites, http:example.com/blogs) , to use the same theme (header, footer, etc) as the main site, and not open as a separate site.
You can manage that kind of thing from the Network Admin Themes Screen.

Regarding the left and right arrows, BuddyPress doesn’t support that kind of form element ‘out-of-the-box’. I’m not even sure it’s a HTML element? You’ll most probably need to use JavaScript to accomplish that.

In reply to: Media uploads with custom taxonomyYou wouldn’t necessarily need to hook into BuddyPress functions. Instead, the main thing to do would be to upload the file, associate that file with a BuddyPress member, and record any associated data for that upload (the user’s choice from your option list).
Check out this article for getting started with Plupload:
In reply to: Media uploads with custom taxonomyPlupload isn’t a plugin, rather, it’s an ‘upload’ library used in WordPress core. It’s a great way of uploading media. We’ve all used it even though we might not know it because it’s the tool that powers the media uploading when you go to WP admin > Media > Add New
In reply to: Media uploads with custom taxonomy@lbpp OK so the short term approach would be to write a HTML form with the option list and file upload button as form elements. Then, server-side, you’d have your processing script which processes the $_POST data after the user has submitted.
There’s 101 ways to do that. Plupload springs to mind as the most elegant solution because you can do all sorts of stuff with the uploaded file (and of course Plupload is a core library so the solution will be lightweight). In terms of where the media gets uploaded to, I assume you’d want it to go into the back-end Media Library? If so, then checkout the async upload script. If you use that when setting your Plupload defaults, then most of the heavy lifting is done for you automatically.
Check out the Plupload docs for more info on that library.
Of course, that’s just one approach you could go with (the one I’d choose myself), but there will be many more alternative approaches you could take.
In reply to: Media uploads with custom taxonomyHi @lbpp
Check out the Attachments API (which is currently in the pipeline and should be available in the 2.3 release). As you’ll see, this kind of thing will be far easier going forward.
In reply to: Need SupportOk cool. What have you tried so far?
In reply to: Implement new blogs on Main BlogIs this the kind of thing you’re looking for?
In reply to: Need SupportWhere will you be getting the data from?
In reply to: Some of my users profiles are not loadingYou seem to be doing everything right. Disabling plugins and reverting to the default theme (Twenty somethings) usually resolves the problem.
Are you seeing the problem on both localhost and on your online server?
In reply to: Notification Color Custom.cssThanks for sharing the snippet. I bet there’ll be people here who find it useful!

Does the old post you copied the question from include any guidance or suggestions? Perhaps you could link to the post?
In reply to: Need SupportHi @aymanomar85
Which part of point 2 are you struggling with?
In reply to: Consolidate Profile TABS?@hnla that’s very useful! I wasn’t aware that was possible 🙂
In reply to: Consolidate Profile TABS?Cool! Good luck with the project 🙂
Just to add, if you’re looking to get started with things like this, the Mozilla Developer Network is a useful (and free) resource that I’ve used many times in the past.
In reply to: Consolidate Profile TABS?I was thinking along the lines of adding some jQuery. If you google the
.hide()and.show()methods there should be a lot that comes up. A very quick (meaningless) example:$( '#hide' ).click( function() { $( '.tab' ).hide(); }); $( '#show' ).click( function() { $( '.tab' ).show(); });There’s also
.toggle()which might be more suited to this.In reply to: Consolidate Profile TABS?(I had links to existing functions for step 1 and 3 but they may have caused my post submit to fail)
Ah, sorry about that. Posts with > 2 links go into the moderation queue.
Do you think this strategy would make it any easier or more feasible?
I think your approach sounds totally feasible.
My only question would be why do things on hover? Your concern that implementing a hover effect might cause issues for mobile users could be addressed just by using simple click approach (or in the case of mobile users, that would be tap). So for example, click on ‘more’ to reveal the hidden tabs.
In reply to: Consolidate Profile TABS?Unfortunately, there’s no existing easy way to consolidate or merge tabs. The easiest way to achieve that in my opinion would be to create a new tab called More and remove each of the unwanted tabs. More would need some custom code to (re)introduce all of the functionality that has been lost via your unwanted tab removal.
Sounds a big project I know, but I can’t think of anything easier 🙁
In reply to: Member Page change default templateHi @aill3urs
Check out Custom Page Templates. They’ll do what you need 🙂
In reply to: Full name in the URLHi @deepjain81
This isn’t currently possible. Full name may have all kinds of characters in it that will play havoc with the URL. For that reason, BuddyPress uses username and doesn’t provide a way to change it.
If you really need to go down this route, then it most probably is possible, but will need quite a lot of custom work done in order to avoid potential bugs.
In reply to: Consolidate Profile TABS?Which tabs are you looking to consolidate?
In reply to: Comments not showing up on activity streamHi @mjc82in
Go to Settings > BuddyPress > Settings and select “Allow activity stream commenting”
