From the dashboard:
Goto Groups
Find the group > edit
Add new members (where you have to know the persons name as is on the site) type it in.
click on it and it’s added under Add users. Then what?
I’ve tried “Save Changes”, hitting enter, non works.
Someone mentioned above “use the old method from the front end, no problem” but I don’t know what this is either. I’ve done it using the old membership plugin now, but thought I’d share as you guys are getting closer to the perfect article.I thank you!
1.8 and I can’t add users from the admin panel
Where on smeak? (is this your website ? )
Buddypress is fine, it’s everything else we have plugged into it that I worry about.
Also changing admins, mods and kicking people from the group etc. doesn’t really work very well in it’s new form. I’ve re-installed the Group management plugin for the moment.
I know 1.8 is on the way (which is half the reason I wanted to mention it) and I’m really looking forward to it as it sounds like quite a few a leaps. But as usual, slightly terrified at the same time, since usually we all know something isn’t going to work after the upgrade.
🙂(Always incredibly thankful of this amazing open source community)
what happened to this website ?
did you find one ?
What kind of support ?
Do these work with BP1.7? They don’t say that they do.
Seemed to work, but then I couldn’t login to my admin normally, so something is not right.
Tried to change it back and the theme has changed back on the mobile device, but I still can’t login.
@modemlooper thanks for the advice, where  should I place this ?  (functions.php  ?)
When I look at my website on my computer, all the tabs and everything is in order.
When I look at the website on my phone or tablet, all the tabs turn intoo buttons on the header and the header seems to repeat itself.
Anyone ?
Will an SSL for the login and reg page help ?
Thank you !
Do I need to add this to the functions.php?
Or
Can I add “//” to “add theme support ….”:
// Add responsive layout support to bp-default without forcing child
// themes to inherit it if they don’t want to
add_theme_support( ‘bp-default-responsive’ );
(Which is what Ive done and it seems to work)
Will this have other implications?
Buddypress default theme.
@modemlooper yours is a really a great plugin, but it’s just shy of what I need.
I would like to be able to set the default activity tabs for a users activity page.
So that when they click on their own username and they are are directed to their own activity page, the activity shown by default could be selected from Personal, Mentions, Friends, Favorites, Gallery, Groups.
Would you be able to help me in this direction or would you consider it for a new version ?
(thought I’d ask)@shawn38 so I’m just using the default theme now.
WP 3.4.2 BP 1.6.1.
When I try and login it gives a whiteout.(Also, I’d like to know would be easy to add group activity to the options? Even if you could point me in the right direction.)
Seeing as you obviously know how to use a gun, I have run a bunch of checks on my test install.
The reason for my “white out” is because of the theme I was using “The Walled Garden”
It would appear that the plugin is now working as stated with the default theme.(I have just realised, this is also your theme : ).
However, it still doesn’t give me what I need most, the option to include streams from groups that my users are members of, which includes activity from users that they may yet be friends with.
Also, on my website I “had” implemented (and liked) the “followers” plugin that requires you to turn “friends” off.
@shawn38 I stand corrected. Please would you be able to help me in some way to achieve what I need from your plugin?
Also, could you tell me, does your plugin re-direct to the set activity stream when a user navigates to their profile via the BP links within the site, or just when they login?
PS: I loved your theme, no I am stuck.
Extended settings doesn’t quite do what I’d like it to do (set the default tab on the activity tab of my profile page)
and……………
buddypress-friendpress gave me a whiteout with all the latest versions.
I was so close and then yet so far : (
I just had a look at zippykid, they seemed like they listened to my problem.
I had a look at their Q&A and found this :
“What plugins can I use on my site?
We don’t restrict any plugins that you use on your site, but we do recommend a few. If you have any problems with plugins or want to know which ones we recommend.”I have a lot of plugins, isn’t it the nature of a buddypress install to mould the website into hwo you want it, by using a bunch of plugins.
Maybe ZippyKid is not so good, why do you say they are? @QuintCan anyone recommend a reasonable minimum VPS setup for Buddypress setup with less than 50 users ?
With no more than 5 logging on at a time.
My spikes of usage come with processes rather than page loads, such as the creation of a group event and the sending out of emails to all the group members. My issuues are not with the number of users, I have a max of 40 active users and no more than 5 come on line at any one time.
My problem (besides having a lot of plugins) is when I run processes with some custom plugins they apparently use a lot of processing power to create an event, send an email, etc etc and the spike gets highlighted by an automated service on the server and in that one minute I could get shut down.In the small print, it says something about using more than 25% of processor power for more than 90secs.
I asked host gator whether uping my account to a VPS would help, the recommended me to a level 5 VPS:
CPU 2.69 GHZ
RAM 1824 MB
Disk Space 80 GB
Bandwidth 1425 GB
But they didn’t really say why they were recommending this or demonstrated that they even understood how the website worked.I have just seen that Hostgator offer a VPS account.
I am considering just upgrading my existing to a VPS or do people have bad experience with reason, with these cheap companies. (Hostgator, hostmonster, bluehost etc)The problem I have had with hostgator is more to do with spikes in processes than spikes in traffic.
I think most of these spikes are to do with plugins that are ending out mails (I might be wrong) for example, group email subscription.
Could I limit this spike by somehow using gmail to manage my mail server. Just a thought, I don’t really know how this would work.
The grid service that @modemlooper mentions apparently has a 50 email a minute limitOn another note, I have found 36cloud that offers a cloud node with a dedicated 600Mhz CPU. Would this be faster. Would this provide noticably faster page loads and help prevent my problems happening ?
Everyone, thank you for all your answers you’re very helpful.
I will look into a VPN or the grid service, both sound interesting.
I honestly thought I was doing the right thing, but obviously went from one inappropriate service to another.
Thanks again and if anyone else wants to add their recommendations, I’d still love to hear them.
