    I made a cute bp child them, and I am a super dummy in all aspects of coding. Since bp theme works great with a super dummy, I think it should not be considered as a beast :-)

    Seems this code not working on my site at all.
    I also tried another way– hide all activity type with “mini” class by modifying the $nothanks like this:

    `$nothanks = bp_get_activity_css_class();`
    and
    `if ($nothanks=’mini’) `

    It does’t work either.
    Any idea?

    I’ve been trying to edit the group header too. I want to move the “New Topic” button to item body div, exactly like what it shows on this BP site.
    I was able to remove the button from group header by add `remove_action( ‘bp_group_header_actions’, ‘bp_group_new_topic_button’ );`
    To add the button back into item body, I tried “ , the button shows up but when click, it doesn’t bring the new topic form up to front. What else should I add?

    Actually, I’m preparing some of my pages for 1.3, coz it’s said there will be some front end editing posibilities. So, I am programing some stuffs to add to BP pages.

    @hnla,
    I failed to search out your robots.txt thread. But I found this one was recommended in another thread: http://perishablepress.com/press/2010/07/14/blackhole-bad-bots/
    I will try it and feed back.
    By the way, the .htaccess referer trap doesn’t work.

    Thanks, hnla! I will wait the new solution then. No hurry.

    @hnla, I got 2 results from googling:
    #1. “
    #2. `sign in`
    #1 requiires to be added in header, I don’t know how to add it in register.php’s header without bothering other pages;
    #2 stops bots following the link on other pages, but BP spammers come without a reference page. They know which link is BP register page. I’m not sure if there’s another way for BP.
    The above is the reason why I ask Andrea.

    I did track down the solutions in this forum. If you pay attention, this topic was posted one month ago. I did my homework. But of course, I didn’t read all the threads, because search in this site is not as efficient as other places. No result if a word or a letter not match. Only accessed the threads that I searched out by different words combinations that I could imagine.

    As for the .htaccess method, my research shows it worked for a while, but stop working since WP 2.9. I tried it, I can comfirm it’s not working on my site.

    BP Humanity does blocks the spamers completely, but they still try. For the past month, the total bandwidth comsumed by /register page is 3000MB
    @andrea_r , how to disallow bots to follow signup link?

    @luvs123, I just tried it in topic.php, I see the place your might want to add this meta is above the loop. The function need to be working inside loop.

    @imjscn

    @luvs123, you need to add the first function below the 2nd function to get the starter.

    @r-a-y , It works!
    Either active the plugin, or paste the filter in function.php, then, add the first snippet below this filter, done!
    Thanks!

    @r-a-y ,
    Sorry for my question wasn’t clear. I need this function works on Forums Directory page. Not on signle topic pag.
    If add the above code in topic.php, it does create the post starter’s username. But I need this starter on Forum Directory page, or single Group’s Forum List. Just like this site’s Forum list.
    Sorry for being troublesom, but I really wish to get this working.

    Use the function still get “Deleted User”.
    In the function, $topic_template->post->poster_nicename , maybe it’s “nickname” instead? Anyway, “nickname” not working either.
    By the way, the code for forum-loop.php, missed a “)” before echo, I added it.

    Need further help. Thanks!

    Thanks for response!
    I am making a Questions and Answers forum, so, it’ neccesary to address who asked the question. Would you point some clue on how to create a new function to get the starter’s username?

    I’m not sure if I’m doing things correctly but it’s working for me this way– I make a copy of register.php, remove the div that I don’t need (eg. “content” ) , also remove the line that calls sidebar, then, save the file as “something.php”. In the page I want to use the register form, inside a div where I want to show the form, use the “locate_template” to call this “something.php”.
    If I’ve done things wrong, please correct me.

    I updated my code to include all the field I need to validate on the signup page:
    `<?php
    function elsa_err_username( ) {
    global $bp;
    if ( !empty( $bp->signup->errors ) )
    echo ‘color:red’;
    }
    add_action ( ‘elsa_err_username’,’elsa_err_username’ );

    function elsa_err_email( ){
    global $bp;
    if ( !empty( $bp->signup->errors ) )
    echo ‘color:red’;
    }
    add_action ( ‘elsa_err_email’,’elsa_err_email’ );

    function elsa_err_pass( ){
    global $bp;
    if ( !empty( $bp->signup->errors ) )
    echo ‘color:red’;
    }
    add_action ( ‘elsa_err_pass’,’elsa_err_pass’ );

    function elsa_err_x( ) {
    global $bp;
    if ( $field_id == 1 && !empty( $bp->signup->errors ) )
    echo ‘color:red’;
    else
    if ( !empty( $bp->signup->errors ) )
    echo ‘color:red’;
    }
    add_action ( ‘elsa_err_x’,’elsa_err_x’ );
    ?>`
    It get the result of changing the label color if there’s an error. But I guess there has to be a smart way to do it ?
    I also removed the line of “do_action(‘bp_ …. error”) which was below each label that need validate. I don’t know what else this line does beside creating a templete for displaying error message. ???
    Thanks for helping!

    I followed your suggestion, got the thing working! However, by my codes, I will have to write down each error for eah label color. Is there a way to run through all the erros and match it with label?
    Here’s what I’ve done so far:
    In the register.php, I test the signup name field by adding style to the label line like this:
    `<label for="signup_username" style="”> `
    In the bp-custom.php, I added this function:
    `<?php
    function elsa_bp_label_color( $errocolor ) {
    global $bp;
    if ( !empty( $bp->signup->errors ) )
    $errorcolor = ‘color:red’;
    else
    $errorcolor = ”;
    return $errorcolor;
    }
    ?>`

    Thanks for helping!

    It’s not css, it’s in the process of validation. I need to find which function deliver this error message, then I can work on changing the way it deliver.
