In reply to: bbPress installed but can't config/admin or post?
New topics or post replies are made within the BP Groups that you’ve enabled bbPress forums.
In reply to: https://codex.buddypress.org/ is deadThis was previously discussed here: https://buddypress.org/forums/topic/buddypress-codex-down
So, members should have already been aware that there are some issues with Codex being down
In reply to: User / messaging exploit? Causing spamHaha! Yes, I told my wife about it and she said go ahead.
Seriously though, it is amazing that this is the first spam exploit that has hit our PM system. I get so many of these pathetic attempts via email each day that I was surprised this morning when I checked my email and saw that one had been sent via the BP PMing system.
In reply to: User / messaging exploit? Causing spamI actually responded to her email. Was I not supposed to? She seemed so nice.
In reply to: BuddyPress Privacy Component: An UpdateThanks for testing and for your comments. I will be beefing up the options that Site Admins have to configure the privacy component. It will be in the next version or the one after that.
I have discovered, with someone’s help, that there may be a browser-specific issue with some of the filtering options. I’m investigating this now.
In reply to: Activation email missing dataSince this is a cosmetic issue, as you indicate above, why not simply change the subject message. It may also help make registration emails from your site look even less suspicious than they do when they contain a link.
So, hardcode the subject message to say something like this:
Your New Bugle Notes Account is Ready to be ActivatedIn reply to: Enterprise BuddypressYes, what is this “proprietary component”? Or is that information proprietary? LOL. I assume it centres around collaboration and / or document management perhaps?
Haha!
Yes, can I sound anymore stuck up than throwing around the term proprietary on an Open Source software forum.
To answer your third question first, yes.
As to your first two questions, I can only give you the most nebulous of details at this time. The component I’m working on is very specific to the site. It will be the primary collaboration and project management engine. So, it will not be something I will make available to the community. Besides, with the exception of using this component to become a direct competitor, it will not have any value to anyone else.
In reply to: Enterprise BuddypressI agree that a stock install of BP does not currently offer a sufficiently robust suite of tools for the enterprise. That will come in time via core enhancements and 3rd-party plugins.
I’m currently developing an enterprise-level, collaborative community site using BuddyPress as the foundation. So, it can be done—but not without a lot of work. For my site, I am coding a proprietary component that will be the main workhorse of the community.
By the way, my BuddyPress Privacy Component is available right now. Although it is still in Beta, it is very solid and much further along than what most people expect in a Beta release. You can grab it here: http://jeffsayre.com/buddypress/
In reply to: BP-Tricks.com (new post updates)Nice work! It is a welcome addition, and generous contribution, to the BuddyPress community.
In reply to: BuddyPress Privacy Component: An Updateit would making TESTING much much easier, if you could set-up a BP-website including your plugin.
Please grap a domain and a cheap server and put BP onto it including your Privacy-plugin
I’m sure that might help some people, but I am not going to take my already-too-hectic schedule and add another duty to my list. If you do not have your own site running, then you do not need this plugin.
People need to see how my privacy component works on their BuddyPress sites. Those who have already given me feedback have provided great suggestions based on the needs of their sites’ users.
In reply to: BuddyPress Privacy Component: An UpdateI seems that some of you who could not wait to test out the privacy component have not yet tested it out! It is available for testing. See the above post for the link.

A note about installation:
First, please read the readme.txt file. You will read that it says, “copy bp-authz.php and /bp-authz/ into /wp-content/plugins/ and activate the plugin.”
This means that you need to make sure that you have both the directory /bp-authz/ and the single file bp-authz.php in /wp-contents/plugins/. So, it should look like this:
/plugins/
…/buddypress/
…/bp-authz/
…bp-authz.php
That last file needs to be at the same level as the /bp-authz/ directory. So, instead of simply dragging the main package directory BPAz into plugins, you drag the contents into plugins instead, leaving out the BPAz directory.
It is a little confusing, but this is often the way 3rd-party BuddyPress plugins are packaged and installed—at least when developing with the BP skeleton component.
Remember, I’ll be unavailable until late next week. So, please leave any comments on my blog post.
In reply to: BuddyPress Privacy Component: An UpdateAll my sites are development sites on a private network. So, at this time, I don’t have a site with public access.
In reply to: How to create forums?In reply to: BuddyPress Privacy Component: An UpdateSeriously, though…
Although your cries may be fortuitous, they are in fact at the right time. I plan on releasing the first public beta of my BuddyPress Privacy Component late this Saturday. When it is up, I’ll Tweet about it (follow me @jeffsayre) and post the link here as well.
I plan on first providing it via my website. I will uploaded it to my WP Repo account next week when I return from my trip–and have had a chance to make a few more tweaks here and there. This also means that you will be on your own for a few days. That should be just enough time for everything to blow up.
Leave any feedback on the post on my website. As this plugin is designed around the default BP theme, if you have a custom theme, you may have to do some CSS tweaking. It should not be a big issue though.
Happy Week-After Thanksgiving!
In reply to: BuddyPress Privacy Component: An UpdateHaha! Yep, I’m mad now. Good bye.

Are looking to have a sitewide forum instead of group-based forums? If so, read my response in this thread:

As jjj said, you can turn it off yourself. Do you have a bp-custom.php file? If not, create one with the code below, then stick that file in /wp-content/plugins/.
<?php
function remove_xprofile_links() {
remove_filter( 'bp_get_the_profile_field_value', 'xprofile_filter_link_profile_data', 2, 2 );
}
add_action( 'plugins_loaded', 'remove_xprofile_links' );

Have you ever heard of the Open Stack? It is on the BP roadmap for version 1.4. This will address your concerns.
In reply to: Upgrading proceduresYou either will use your old theme(s) in /bp-themes/ or a parent/child theme in /themes/. If you want to use your old theme as a parent/child theme, then you need to make changes to it as detailed in the link I provided and then move it into its new place.
Please reread the links I provided above as they do explain very clearly what you need to do.
In reply to: Extend existing table or store in options table?I would not add extra fields to any of the core tables. Instead, either create a new table, or if you don’t have too much data to store, you could use wp_usermeta, storing data as key, value pairings.
Kevin-
I just noticed that there’s an error in the way each function call is coded. Try this instead:
<?php __( next_posts_link( '« Previous Entries' ), 'buddypress' ) ?>
<?php __( previous_posts_link( 'Next Entries »' ), 'buddypress' ) ?>Let me know if that works.
