Odd they are 500 errors, and not 404’s. You may want to refresh your permalinks, incase something got mucked up in there.

You could grant them all the Subscriber role. How did they all end up with the Member role? It’s not BuddyPress’s default role; did you set it to be in WordPress’s settings?

BuddyPress only does this when you turn on the old version of Forums. The “Member” role is part of bbPress 1.x, but was never intended to be used anywhere.

Like the error message suggests, your server ran out of memory.

This has been an issue for a while, though no one has invested time into figuring out exactly what the problem is. My guess is something to do with ajax requests being too greedy, but I have no evidence to support that.

There are lots of existing examples on the internet and in the codex on how to integrate BuddyPress into an existing theme. Start there, and come back with specific questions when you have them.

Not sure what you mean by “public area” — everything is assumed public, unless it’s explicitly private (like private/hidden groups.)

If you’re starting a new site with BuddyPress, and are a developer, you should be using trunk. By the time your site ships, so will 1.7.

If you didn’t convert them over using: Tools > Forums > Import, then you’ll be fine.

Deleting and replacing the files themselves is non-destructive. You’re fine to do it.
