    Sounds like a bug or plugin conflict… I don’t see this happening at testbp.org or any test installation that I have. I patched a few pagination bugs that will be repaired for 1.1.3, but nothing for the activity streams that I recall.

    @nonegiven… The short answer is “yes”, but it’s not really an accurate one…

    It has less to do with funding than it does with members of those language speaking communities helping us make the software better. I don’t speak any of those languages and wouldn’t know how to accurately setup a development environment to duplicate the scenarios needed to test what’s not working correctly for them. I personally think that i18n and l10n are vitally important, and any kinks will get worked flat eventually, we just need the right people to help iron them out for/with us.

    BuddyPress, as it stands will work perfect for a single domain setup, like 99% of the typical audience will predictably use it for, and for wp.com if bits and pieces of it are used for that purpose.

    @anointed, this isn’t a “flaw” in the software so much as it is BP floating on top of MU’s infrastructure. With any of the multi-site plugins, when I look at my site-wide users, I still see ALL users registered from ALL domains/blogs/etc… When I look at a particular blogs users, then of course all that exists there are the users of that blog. Because a “site” is just another “blog” the terms here mean the same thing. 1 central user base, and all users rotate around them.

    There might be a few hacks and methods to counter this behavior, but they involve checking user-meta for a list of blogs that user “belongs” to above and beyond roles and caps, or adding additional tables to route users around… It just is a strange setup and something that needs to be built custom for that particular need.

    Think of how all the *press.org sites work. One central user base, yet you can login to all of bbpress.org, wordpress.org/com, buddypress.org, and all of their respective tracs and blogs, etc… That’s the same thing that BuddyPress does. The MU multi-site plugin does something a little extra, that none of the other platforms really do, and that’s allow multiple domains to use the same installation… bbPress has the power to do something similar, but no one has really explored how to do it yet, but even in that case you’re probably still sharing user tables and just mapping roles and caps again…

    Am I making sense yet? haha

    @andrea_r:

    If that’s true (and I’m sure it is :) ), I’m willing to bet that BuddyPress doesn’t know the difference. I’ll need to do some testing around this, but I have a hunch that BP is just going to loop through all members not by site or blog, but just by what’s in the wp_users table, setting up the kind of situation Anointed mentions.

    The problem is that domain1.com/members will show the same users as domain2.com/members, regardless of where they signed up from or what “site” they think they belong to.

    So if they register at a website about puppies, and a “site” attached to that MU installation about kitties shows up, their profile will show up there too.

    Blogs can have their own users in MU; they always can. The line gets blurry when you start talking about “sites” though, because a “site” is just another blog where users have roles and caps… The WordPress dashboard doesn’t really make this a clear thing visually, but at the end of the day you still only have 1 users table, regardless of how many sites or blogs you setup and how many users have what roles/caps on which blogs/sites.

    Dizzy yet?

    My unofficial response is that there’s very little if anything to worry about. If you’re already using MU of any form, then the move will be 100% transparent to you when it happens. If you’re using traditional .org (which I’m going to start calling SU for single user) then the upgrade will be 99% transparent and 1% “oh, cool.” :)

    @johnjamesjacoby

    That would be the way to do it. Polish up that plugin and put it in the plugin repo. :)

    BP_ENABLE_MULTIBLOG basically allows BuddyPress to not look for the root domain, but instead just work on which-ever domain or blog that you’re on at the time. It isn’t really the answer to this question/issue, but rather a way to side-step the issue.

    At the moment, there is no kind of “BuddyPressMU” type setup, allowing multiple BP communities on one installation. But, this isn’t an impossible task to pull off, with some effort. :)

    The underlying problem is that BP uses 1 set of site-wide tables for all MU blogs regardless of site or association. It is coded to think that it has control over the entire MU setup. What would need to happen is for BP to look for which site it is occupying and enumerate its DB tables according to the site_id…

    However… If we’re using one MU installation, we’re still talking about sharing a userbase regardless, so even the above scenario might not be optimal. Ultimately the problem comes from the shared userbase, which means even a new “site” has no real way to say these 10 users only belong to this site, and these 12 users to this one, and these 20 users to this one…

    Something like this, in my opinion, is something that the core should be aware of, but not manage; similar to sunrise support in MU. As setups like this become more popular and the community need for it arises, I’m sure there will be a great solution to this.

    preachur, keep the $20 and save it for the next guy. :)

    I appreciate the generous offer, but get yourself a latte and some lunch. The BuddyPress support forums will always be free. :D

    Firstly you’ll need to get rid of the “www.” that you’re adding. WPMU doesn’t use www anywhere anymore and it will only cause more problems.

    Otherwise I can manually go to wp-admin and get to the dashboard area?

    I recommend just turning it off completely…

    remove_filter( 'bp_get_the_profile_field_value', 'xprofile_filter_link_profile_data', 2, 2 );

    More elaborate filtering could be done by checking bp_get_the_profile_field_value and looking for field ID’s if you wanted to.

    Just saw the replies. Boone’s plugin is a good option too. Expect to see something similar in the core for xprofile in future versions.

    Add a ticket in the trac to add a filter to bp_create_excerpt and we can make this easier in a future version.

    @nexia, you’re exactly right and thinking in the right direction.

    What you’ll probably start to see are more and more plugins coming out that eventually sneak their way into the core, in one way or another. Something like an elaborate and advanced user/group/blog filtering system is a little too fancy and needs access to core variables and functions in too many places to only be a plugin for very long.

    This plugin is actually on the core roadmap for 1.3 (I think?) so it’s likely it will be worked into the core. Some of the smaller plugins (from me) in the coming weeks will probably be sneak peaks into the future of BP core that I think need testing and feedback.

    You won’t be able to include a PHP through the uri, it will need to be done via the ABSPATH.

    If I’m reading the error correctly, it looks like it’s taking the

    require_once( ABSPATH . WPINC . "/class-IXR.php");…and turning it into a big long string. (unless that’s just how bbpress stripped it out…)

    Looks to me like the file is just missing. Can you find where the file actually is and modfiy the bp-dev plugin to point to the correct location?

    I think you’re over-thinking this a little bit.

    bp-default assumes that it is the “home” template, and nothing more. It assumes that user blogs will use other templates that you either create yourself, supply to them, or that they can install via the Appearance item in the site admin.

    The only way to trick this into working is by putting…

    define( 'BP_ENABLE_MULTIBLOG', true )

    …either in wp-config.php or /wp-content/plugins/bp-custom.php. This still probably isn’t really what you’re trying to do, but it will get you where you want to be without modifying the core templates. If you’re using a custom template, then it’s as easy as modifying the header.php to always link back to the root blog components and pages that you want it to.

    At that point I really think this sounds like some kind of conflicting JavaScript issue. This cropper is solid because it’s the same library used by WordPress 2.9’s image cropping feature, and I think it’s even the same one that Gravatar uses ( which fits the roadmap ability of being able to import a gravatar via the BuddyPress interface. )

    Check if any other plugins are adding conflicting JavaScript, and see if there are any errors occurring in your site.

    Actually not really… I planned on filtering longer list items by only populated fields. Like “Country” is a good example that may have hundreds of options, but you may only have 10 or so actually in use.

    Good suggestion though, and it will probably happen in time. :D

    @johnjamesjacoby

    Haven’t tested it myself, but something like this usually is easier on the brain…

    <a href="<?php echo loggedin_user->domain . $bp->friends->slug . '/remove-friend/' . $potential_friend_id, 'friends_remove_friend' ) ?>" title="<?php _e('Cancel Friendship', 'buddypress') ?>" id="friend-<?php echo $potential_friend_id ?>" rel="remove" class="confirm remove"><?php _e('Disconnect', 'buddypress') ?></a>

    It’s also possible that because this specific link has ajax attached to it, that it’s returning false before the additional JS message can fire on the click. In that case we’ll need to try a different route.
