Didn’t test it myself, but in theory it should be. :D

Link? Sounds like there might be a filter issue somewhere from some conflicting plugin or modification.

At the moment, it’s probably not as easy as we all wish it was. :/

It’s best to start with WPMU if you can…

If you have an existing site with plugins installed, it won’t be an easy transfer. If it’s just a normal WP install with no plugins, you can export your blog, install WPMU, and import the blog as your primary blog into the new site.

Did you have BuddyPress 1.1 installed previously? Are you using WPMU or WP?

I’ll admin to not knowing how phpinfo should look if not using apache, so we might need additional help here.

Make a file called “home.php” in your “bp-default” directory.

Inside that file, copy and paste the contents of “bp-sn-parent/directories/forums/index.php”

What are your permalinks set to?

Is WPMU installed in its own subdirectory also? I.E. http://domain.com/wpmu/ ?

Do you have a .htaccess file located in the root of your WPMU installation?

Does your server/web host have mod_rewrite turned on? (This is hopefully yes)

    <?php bloginfo('stylesheet_directory'); ?>

Check wp-includes/theme.php for lots of little gems like this too. :)

    Are you trying to access…

    http://domain.com/dashboard/

    or

    http://domain.com/dashboard.php

    Otherwise, it looks about right?

Who is your web host? Chances are this is a PHP version or a memory issue.

arnonel, other than directly adding them to DB via a typed out query, or building a query in PHP to enter the values, not really…

XProfile will be getting a pretty hefty update in coming versions to allow for this kind of thing though…

With BP1.1, avatars are no longer stored in the database; they are rather stored as files on the server in folders based on the slug and ID of the avatar owner.

Check your /blogs.dir/1/avatars/ directory and you’ll see lots of other folders in there.

You can imagine this cuts down on the query count pretty substantially.

I could be wrong, but this is technically your second major plugin. ;)

Probably best to leave that discussion where it is.

You will need to upgrade your themes also… Are you using the bp-sn-parent and bp-default themes?

    @johnjamesjacoby

You can probably imagine it’s a rather large and complicated plugin, but when it’s ready for beta it will make it into the WordPress plugin repository for download and feedback.

Which BP version are you using?

    This is fixed in BuddyPress1.1.

I’m closing this topic since there is another one announcing the official release. Please route your responses here going forward.

If you are using 1.1rc or 1.1 trunk, then that should happen automatically for you once you turn on and configure the group forums.

If not, and if you’re using an unmodified version of BuddyPress 1.0, upgrading to 1.1 would be the easiest way.

    Nice work.

I’m actually working on something to do this (and a little more) right now.

It won’t be available for a few weeks yet (even as a beta) but it includes po/mo editing, user to user Google AJAX translating, and sub-directory URL interception for SEO.

Also, consider that because BuddyPress uses WordPressMU which is compatible with most of the normal WordPress plugins out there, you have an existing free library of pretailored website features and upgrades that jump-start your development time.

On a large scale, using plugins like HyperDB and donncha’s cache plugin can help manage server load… Consider that wordpress.com uses a codebase very similar to WPMU to manage millions of users and blogs and activity, and it’s easy to see that WordPress is capable of handling a ton of pages and data… BuddyPress also now powers the http://profiles.wordpress.org pages too, so you can see how it handles tens of thousands of users there as well.

Nope, just have no idea what day it is anymore. Haha!

It’s going to be hard to be video game centric and dodge the word “game” in your URL and name. I’ll be honest, when I first saw “GSN” I thought “Game Show Network” which might be a conflict also?

If you’re stuck with the URL and absolutely cannot rename the site, then I would just press on with GSN and hope for the best. However, my first impression of the website is that it isn’t as professional and educational looking as it is fun and bubbly. My $.02 and I mean no disrespect. :)

Backstory: For college, I pursued a degree in multimedia and video game design, mostly because there wasn’t a “social networking” major in any school I could find at the time. Anything close had too much to do with public relations and brand marketing. I have no plans on doing anything with video games myself unless it involves working on their web team :xboxlive:cough:cough: :) /Backstory

Maybe shifting the focus away from the users and more towards the tools they use (hardware/software/documents) that are essential to people in the specific fields of interest in the industry would help your site out? It’s one thing to network with people, but being able to collaborate and gain knowledge and skills from them is what’s important, in my opinion.

If you can help it, and you are comfortable porting your theme over (eventually maybe?) then I would suggest it, yes. Estimated release for 1.1 is September 30, so it’s only a few days away.
