In reply to: Happy New Year
Cheers everyone. 2012 was really great!
In reply to: groups forums wonโt uninstall`delete_option( ‘bb-config-location’ );`
In other words, delete the ‘bb-config-location’ option, and you’re good to go.
In reply to: Can’t REPLY To BuddyPress.org ThreadsYour account looks fine. Possible you had a naughty word in your reply that caused it to hit the comment blacklist?
In reply to: Buddypress 1.7Thanks for the kind words. ๐
the backwards compatibility with non-bp (wp) themes was pretty buggy
This isn’t very helpful. Can you explain what bugs you experienced, and how to duplicate them?
In reply to: Registration not working hen BuddyPress activatedIf it is a BuddyPress bug, or if there’s something WP Engine needs from us, they know we’re ready and available to ping ideas off of. They’re good folks, and I’ve met several of the guys in person on multiple occasions.
If you can, update in this topic whatever happens, and we’ll make whatever changes we need to on our end.
In reply to: [Resolved] alt= is somebody else’s!Can you create a ticket over at http://buddypress.trac.wordpress.org? I can confirm this isn’t working as intended in some cases.
In reply to: Buddy Mobile plugin deprecated?Yeah; pretty sad loss. Maybe @modemlooper himself can chime in?
In reply to: Duplicate RolesHi JP,
You’re right, that it’s all a bit confusing right now. It sounds like some part of the update script didn’t run, as it would normally remove the duplicate roles.
Having multiple roles is a bbPress specific feature, that BuddyPress will likely adopt to some small extent in 2013. The basic goal is to *not* have 1 dropdown with a bunch of roles in it, restricting users to having 1 set of capabilities. Since no site is the same, and no user will always have all/some/none caps, being able to have multiple roles is pretty critical.
In BuddyPress, it’s less-so, because we assume all users can do all things in BuddyPress, and have purpose built restrictions in place for super administrators.
You should be able to safely remove the duplicate and bbPress roles with some calls to
remove_role(). bbPress 2.x adds its roles dynamically at run-time, and only on the site it’s activated on. Visiting the Users list in wp-admin for that site should show you the columns you describe. It’s fixed in the 1.6 branch and trunk, and we’ll release a fix in the next few days.
In reply to: Why is BuddyPress.org so slow?If you have questions on the achievements plugin, this is not the topic to do it in.
Closing this topic, since it’s long since fixed.
In reply to: Merry Christmas buddypress forumThanks everyone for a great 2012. ๐
In reply to: [Resolved] Member Role gone after updateIt sounds like maybe you’re confusing two different things:
How the roles were added and removed.
How the users were granted those roles.I know how they got there, and how they were removed. I’m curious why your users have those roles at all.
bbPress 2.2 and beyond have their own secondary user roles, that do not mix in with WordPress’s role picker. Basically, to avoid exactly this kind of scenario, where users are left without roles at all.
bbPress 2.2.3 should be automatically granting users a forum role when they login and browse the site. Whether or not they have a WordPress role on the site shouldn’t dictate their ability to create activity stream content. The only users that can’t create content in BuddyPress are spammed or deleted users.
Do you have some other role-based custom thing happening on your site that’s interfering somewhere?
In reply to: [Resolved] Member Role gone after updateI’m saying that BuddyPress creates several roles when you activate the Forums component, as the roles are specific to bbPress 1.x. That said, those roles never actually do anything, and likely can be safely removed.
So, I’m asking, how all of your members were assigned that role.
In reply to: Dealing with 500 errors after BP deactivationOdd they are 500 errors, and not 404’s. You may want to refresh your permalinks, incase something got mucked up in there.
In reply to: [Resolved] Member Role gone after updateYou could grant them all the Subscriber role. How did they all end up with the Member role? It’s not BuddyPress’s default role; did you set it to be in WordPress’s settings?
In reply to: [Resolved] Member Role gone after updateBuddyPress only does this when you turn on the old version of Forums. The “Member” role is part of bbPress 1.x, but was never intended to be used anywhere.
In reply to: Database ErrorLike the error message suggests, your server ran out of memory.
In reply to: Buddypress and anything that accesses the xmlrpcThis has been an issue for a while, though no one has invested time into figuring out exactly what the problem is. My guess is something to do with ajax requests being too greedy, but I have no evidence to support that.
In reply to: [Resolved] Cannot access codex if logged inFantastic. Closing this, as resolved.
In reply to: 1.7 theme definedDonโt worry, that was my final question for you guys.
You can be mad, or you can have compassion for the umpteen other fires we put out on a daily basis. Repeatedly pinging us to answer questions for you, that you could answer yourself by checking out trunk, doesn’t help us get 1.7 released sooner, it only makes us your search engine. ๐
In reply to: 1.6 please define bullet #4Correct. This hasn’t changed in years.
In reply to: 1.7 theme definedI’ll second Hugo and Mercime; pinging everyone multiple times is annoying, and not the right way to get answers.
In reply to: [Resolved] Cannot access codex if logged inSorry about that. I fixed what was causing the error for your first account. A bit of code I wrote to automatically grant the “Editor” role to the codexes wasn’t working theme-side. If you visited wp-admin, it would grant the role, and everything would fix itself.
This is why reports have been sporadic. Users with roles already, could see the codex fine. Logged out users, also could see it fine. Users that have never visited the codex before, and were trying to now, were seeing the error.
Anyways, fixed!
In reply to: How to use pinboard them with buddypress? There are lots of existing examples on the internet and in the codex on how to integrate BuddyPress into an existing theme. Start there, and come back with specific questions when you have them.
Not sure what you mean by “public area” — everything is assumed public, unless it’s explicitly private (like private/hidden groups.)
