“in” a few weeks or “for” a few weeks.

There’s a distinct different in meaning there. :)

Looks like it’s going into bp_blogs_new_blog_activity to me?

Do a find in the BP code for that function and see where other functions hook into it?

Not sure what you use to code, but I use Notepad++ that has a “search through files” function so you don’t have to have all of the files open, and it will search through sub directories and you can filter for specific file types.

I’m doing this via the bbGroups plugin, and some pretty in depth modifications to the bbPress theme.

I’m working on and off with Burt to try and pass BuddyPress xprofile info to bbPress, as my goal is probably the same as yours and most others; to have all information match across the entire website.

We’re working towards that goal, hopefully soon. :)

What the hell am I lookin’ at? When does this happen in the movie?

Now. You’re looking at now sir, everything that happens now is happening now.

    What happened to then?

    We passed it.

    When?

    Just now. We’re at now-now.

    Go back to then.

    When?

    Now.

    Now?

    Now!

    I can’t.

    Why?

    We missed it.

    When?

    Just now.

    When will then be now?

    …Soon.

    This is an easy one.

@bmg1227, are you using the included theme, or a custom one?

Do me a favor and anywhere in your index.php file in your theme, put <?php echo "Hello there!" ?>

Then access your post. If you see “Hello There” then my theory is correct, and your single.php file isn’t being accessed.

I think what’s happening is that your functions.php file isn’t divvying out the template file that it should be. Take the functions.php file from the stock BuddyPress Home theme, and copy it into whatever theme you’re using.

    Tada!

bbPress is a standalone product, similar to WordPress MU and WordPress.org. The idea is to keep everything modular, and allow people to pick and choose what they want to use.

I think that the way that the Forums are implemented into BuddyPress will change once BackPress because a more mature API.

In the meantime, the forums work almost exactly like the wire does, but for groups instead. Groups also have their own wire, so in reality having a forum is a little redundant until someone takes the initiative to introduce some more functionality into the BuddyPress forum area.

You’re correct, it should be “bbPress Forums”

I am sort of out of ideas really. The tools and topics we’ve linked you to should be enough info to troubleshoot a non functioning situation. Hmmm…

Since you’re asking, I think maybe you should have let Andy announce this when it was time. ;)

Now that the cat is out of the bag, I think it only makes sense to offer BuddyPress to the widest audience. In my opinion, BuddyPress does what everyone wishes WordPress would have done in the first place, so I feel like this was inevitable and a very good thing.

Btw David, I was the tall skinny guy that helped you get the projector working at your presentation.

At second glance, the reason I asked is because I’d like to update all of the xprofile user info that I want visible in the forums, into the bbGroup array, even if they are NOT in any group.

I think that using your array for my purpose isn’t really “right,” but it will work once I can get non-grouped users to have a bbGroup array.

I haven’t had time this week to come up with what I consider a “real” solution that doesn’t piggy back on top of yours, to pass all xprofile info from bp to bbp.

Your bbGroups really does work perfectly for people that are in groups, just not people that aren’t I think. Ha!

    @johnjamesjacoby

Where would I want to hook into, to update the bbGroups array whenever the logged in user edits their xprofile data?

    @johnjamesjacoby

I would take the code you see there, and make your own widget to do what you want to do. Rename the functions accordingly. This way you have your own widget that you can maintain and no worries about upgrading the core. :)

Wow way to track that one down, super sleuth!

I’m going to migrate some of the bbPress “favorites” idea into a BuddyPress plugin eventually. I was thinking of opening this up to site wide links as well, which would just involve a link in the header or footer, if logged in, to add that location to your favorites.

I think it’s very doable, but would either need to be added to the trac as a feature request, or be done as another BP plugin, separate from the others.

If you’re using a windows machine, research a program called TortoiseSVN, it will allow you to turn a plain old directory on your computer into a download directory for the SVN that you export into (never liked that it was called export, should be import, but whatever.)

Pauls’ right though… Typically the Trunk is safe, but because it’s not rigorously tested in any kind of capacity by multiple people, it has the potential to introduce new bugs by fixing old ones.

I went through a phase as a developer where I wanted to stay on the bleeding edge of the updates, but to be honest it gets to be difficult to keep up with the updates.

My suggestion is to be as patient as you can with what’s available because it’s typically the most stable, and only update to a trunk version if something specific is fixed that you need, and you are instructed to do so to alleviate your issues.

I’ve taken a better look at this, and I think I can actually score most of the code I would need from the groups area of BuddyPress.

Andy, can you confirm for me that you’re not already working on this officially? If you’re not, I’d love to give it a try.

    @johnjamesjacoby

Well, I certainly could comment on how I’d like for it to be, but I’m just a guy, and I don’t want to put any more demands or pressure on anyone to have anymore to do.

If what you’re saying is go ahead and talk out loud about what I’d like to see, then I’m totally for that, but like I said I don’t want to walk into anyone’s house and tell them what color I wish the curtains were. :)

When Andy tells you to upgrade to the trunk, he means upgrade your entire BuddyPress install to the trunk version, all files.

Trunk versions are typically committed complete functioning changes, so they as much as they are mini revisions, the idea is that they are always the most updated bug fixed versions of BuddyPress.

The only *real* problem that I see with your website is with internet explorer 6, and there are entire countries boycotting the use of it at this point, so at least we’re on the cusp of an era for developers.

On a stock install, IE6 and IE7 look 98% acceptable and the others look totally fine as far as I can see. (safari, opera, chrome, firefox)

Looks like either something you did broke it, or something went awry in your upload/edit of the files.

When I look at testbp.org in IE6, it looks pretty much perfect.

I think that considering the plethora of files and CSS that BP has, that it’s been cross browser tested pretty thoroughly actually.

If by older do you mean imported from an existing MU install?

I suspect so, and this has been covered before. For BuddyPress to “see” users, they need to update at LEAST the “fullname” field in their user profile.

I think I am going to do two things to help alleviate this problem.

1.) Edit the codex to mention this in a “conversion/MU Import” section.

2.) Make a plugin to update all user info that doesn’t already have it there, as well as clean up the login name in the event it was a port from wp.org to wpmu. (Not sure why wp.org allows spaces and symbols in usernames, but mu does not. Seems silly to handle them differently between sister platforms.)

No config setting, however I believe Trent recently posted about a plugin that he made that does this.

Take a few moments to search around as I know this was just referenced within the past few days/week. More than likely in the Enhancement forum.

Isn’t there just an option button in the admin somewhere that says “show admin bar?”

Or am I thinking of WPMU?

@brandtd, back from the dead… Looks good and I like the colors a lot.

Something I noticed is that the page links in your main navigation start with “www.” when it doesn’t need it. If you’re using RC1 then that is hard coded and you can just omit that and be good to go.

@Andy, question that I didn’t see asked… For the recent forum widget, are you using the existing widget for non-mu WordPress, or did you make a special one for BuddyPress?

Well this is bizarre. Let me join the fray and see if I can track anything down today about this. I haven’t had any need for this yet, but I have two projects coming up that will require localization.

I think I know where to look, but I might not have time until this evening.

A majority of the plugins do work, and it’s up to each individual author or admin to adjust the plugins that don’t.

The obvious plugin issue with MU is fixed in the trunk from what I understand, so it’s only a matter of time before MU gets bumped to 2.7.1 also.

So what it sounds like you’re saying is that you know the answer to your question, but you don’t really like it so you want to vent a little. :)
