In reply to: new update buddypress 1.6
The BuddyBar has been merged with the WordPress bar in this version of BuddyPress. It actually has a lot more functionality. There is some discussion on this topic https://buddypress.org/community/groups/how-to-and-troubleshooting/forum/topic/how-can-i-use-old-buddypress-admin-bar-if-i-dont-want-to-use-this-new-one-in-1-6/ that may give you a few more options.
In reply to: Problems after update from 1.5.7 to 1.6Just as a first step, have you tried updating your theme to the latest version that works with 1.6? When an update happens it’s time to also update any theme or plugins you use.
In reply to: Directory Page Crashed BP 1.6Just to check, have you updated your theme to BuddyPress 1.6? Or have you made changes to your theme to reflect those in BuddyPress 1.6?
In reply to: The Bar Behind Text Makes Text UnreadableI could be wrong but that looks like the message styling in your theme needs either a different colour background or the text to be set to something darker than white.
span.activity, div#message p is my guess
If you can please provide a link if you need more exact information then I can take a look at your site.
I don’t think there is – others may have a way though.
In reply to: Revert Back to Previous VersionWhilst I can’t say for sure it’s probably better to be safe and download versions from the codex here. https://codex.buddypress.org/version/1-5-7/ and other versions are kept.
In reply to: how to get rid of the admin bar in bp 1.6Charlietech, I already answered over here: https://buddypress.org/community/groups/how-to-and-troubleshooting/forum/topic/how-to-get-rid-of-the-admin-bar-in-bp-1-6-7/.
In reply to: Customizing Status updatesI can’t really comment on pods sorry but if you want to customise your status updates you can using CSS fairly easily – depends on what you want to do though. Are you looking to style their look in the theme or style them when posting the update?
In reply to: how to get rid of the admin bar in bp 1.6Hi Charlietech, the BuddyPress admin bar is now merged with the WordPress one.
So, you can use this:
‘add_filter(‘show_admin_bar’, ‘__return_false’);` in your functions.php file to turn off fully.
Alternatively, you can use:
‘Settings > BuddyPress : Toolbar Show the Toolbar for logged out users’
You can also select to show or hide the WordPress admin bar on your own profile.
If none of those work for you then you may need to look see if your theme is forcing something.
Just a slight point on top though, if possible can you only start one thread per question as it does help to focus responses?
Hi @shawn38, I showed you the div that you can interact with to change the width. I saw this looking at your site in Firebug and examining the wrapper about your container.
`#wrapper {
font-size: 0.6875em;
margin: 0px auto;
width: 1000px;
}`But, as @rogercoathup just making that 100% isn’t what making your theme responsive means. If you want to do that you have to look at how it looks on a range of devices and change things using media queries (http://www.w3.org/TR/css3-mediaqueries/) for instance.
I’ve not tried it myself but you could try this plugin: https://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/buddypress-login-redirect/
Really like the search and member area on front page that’s cool. Like the subtle colour scheme too and great to see plenty of use of white space. Good job.
In reply to: New To BuddyPress… HELP!Hi Ashley, welcome to using BuddyPress
There are some good getting started guides right on this site in the codex.https://codex.buddypress.org/getting-started/
If you look to the right side where it says sub pages you can work through each of those.
Hopefully that will at least get you on track.Just to add to that reading list would be http://www.abookapart.com/products/mobile-first/. BuddyPress default itself is to a point responsive now (but not mobile first). The theme you mention Shawn38 isn’t and therefore will if you want not just a 100% width but a proper ‘responding to devices’ probably cause some issues.
Oo cool r-a-y wasn’t aware of that one thanks for linking in.
The first change you’d need to do would be this:
`#wrapper {
font-size: 0.6875em;
margin: 0px auto;
width: 1000px;
}`That’s basically fixing your entire site to 1000px. Now, what you can do is change that to a percentage ie; 100%. If you want it to respond though you probably want to have it max-width set something like max-width:1260px. However, once you do that a lot of other CSS things will need changing so I’d recommend working through each of those one by one using something like Firebug or another inspector tool. http://getfirebug.com/
In reply to: Header duplicatingIt depends on what theme you are using. Usually yes you can put that in your style.css and it would work.
In reply to: Header duplicatingI think we already covered that over here: https://buddypress.org/community/groups/how-to-and-troubleshooting/forum/topic/header-duplicating/. However, if that’s not the solution it’s probably a good idea to keep to one thread as saves confusion.
Hi, sorry to hear your site has not taken to the upgrade well. What it could be is a plugin or theme issue though – those are the easiest to look at so good first ports of call. If possible make sure all your plugins and themes are up to date before an upgrade. However, you can as a check maybe rename your theme you are using’s folder so it pops to the default theme.
Failing those methods not working is there anything in your error logs that perhaps would indicate where the issue is? If you don’t know how to access your error logs your hosting can help you there.
Hi EndlessRange, the short answer is there is but it would require custom coding. If you are happy with custom coding you can look at https://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/auto-join-groups/ as a start. It’s out of date so won’t work as a solution now but it may shed some light on how to start with this. Beyond that it’s not something I think is out there as a plugin currently.
In reply to: show comments in a groupCould I clarify where you are looking as http://testbp.org/groups/twitter/ is my assumption and as you can see that filter works for replies. My guess is that perhaps this is a theme issue – have you checked on that page you don’t have any scripting errors?
Alternatively if you could provide a link that would help a little or maybe you are able to test the default BuddyPress theme? I know it’s not a direct answer but it’s hard to guess without knowing a little more about your site.
In reply to: Activity Stream ProblemUsually you’d see everything in activity stream for the site – as it’s that the stream for site. It sounds like either a plugin or maybe theme issue though if that’s not the case. I know you may not be able to as a live site, but can you try the default theme? If not, perhaps examine / test if any plugin?
If none of that helps perhaps you could provide a link to see your site? Unfortunately, it’s hard to judge until see something for self.
In reply to: Header duplicatingIt’s because you’ve got a repeat on that header so when smaller and height increases on header it repeats. You can try something like this:
`#header {
background: url(http://www.releasethereal.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/06/Header-Workerwithout-line.png)0 bottom no-repeat;
}`In reply to: Feature Request: XProfile Programmable Custom FieldsIt’s not a perfect solution but have you look at gravity forms for registation forms and BuddyPress? http://www.gravityforms.com/
In reply to: [Resolved] New users can’t log inIt’s tricky to say not having a link to your site as a starting point to consider things. It could be that some plugin or even your theme is interfering with the links working. Probably a good starting point would be to re-save your permlinks (this probably isn’t the issue but a good check) under settings.
Then look to see if any redirect / plugins are interacting. If you are able (and you may not be able to on a live site) set to the BuddyPress default theme and see if that solves the issue. Could you have added any custom code to the theme?
