In reply to: Buddypress and Multisite
Yes, BuddyPress and multisite do work together and you can have one login.
In reply to: DayZ Clan NetworkCool start, you’ve posted this in the gallery section so probably for your questions you would get more responses if you put them each in a post in one of the other forums. For instance the ‘Creating and Extending’ for customisation or ‘Installing BuddyPress’ for setting up, or ‘How-To and Troubleshooting’ for any issues and after set up.
As far as commenting on the site I’d love to see the front page show more of the community within. I always think it’s a shame to just have a wall of text when you land on a community. Maybe expand on the logo styling and rough up (for want of a better design term) the other elements. I’m a sucker for a bit of personality in a site and think considering your topic you could do that fairly easily.
In reply to: Dont know how to get startedHi muffythechef, I’m a firm believer in when you are starting out no question is silly so don’t worry at all. I’m going to give you a few links which hopefully help depending on what stage you are at of the setup:
https://codex.buddypress.org/getting-started/setting-up-a-new-installation/buddypress-1-5-installation-wizard/
https://codex.buddypress.org/getting-started/configure-buddypress-components/ (sounds like you are at this stage)Hopefully, that will help.
In reply to: header image changes on different pagesHi raminjan, I think a little more information would help in determining what is going on. Are you using a custom theme? Could you provide a link to see the theme in action?
In reply to: Share external post in buddypressMaybe like this? https://buddypress.org/community/groups/buddypress-share-it/
@themoju, it seems you are using a custom theme there – is it a child of BuddyPress default or are you using the template pack? As a check if you can I’d suggest putting on the default theme for BuddyPress to check if uploads work – that way you can then know if it is your theme.
In reply to: How to validate custom profile fields.I think https://buddypress.org/community/groups/how-to-and-troubleshooting/forum/topic/validating-a-url-from-xprofile-field/ may provide a good starting point. If I am wrong though please let me know and I’ll take a look.
In reply to: Change Avatar NameYou can do this using a custom language file: https://codex.buddypress.org/extending-buddypress/customizing-labels-messages-and-urls/
In reply to: How do I order GroupsIt’s going to take a little bit of code diving but this thread should shed some light on how you can do that: https://buddypress.org/community/groups/how-to-and-troubleshooting/forum/topic/sort-groups-alphabetically-by-default-bp-12/
In reply to: Acitivty Stream BugIt’s hard to tell really without a link as sounds very like this could be due to your theme. If you can provide a link that would be great. Alternatively, could you try the default BuddyPress theme and see if it happens there? I understand on a live community this may not be possible.
If it’s not theme related it could be some plugin / something adding CSS / scripting and clashing. I’d therefore you look at if you can striping back plugins to try and find the culprit. It does sound this is the less likely thing though and it’s something in your theme.
Ok, this forum post goes into adding and removing here https://buddypress.org/community/groups/how-to-and-troubleshooting/forum/topic/how-to-remove-and-add-items-in-bp_get_displayed_user_nav/
In reply to: when logged in user goes to All Members pageAre you using some redirect in your theme or a plugin?
In reply to: Disable “My Acccount” linksWhat theme are you using? Is it a child theme of BP Default (or BP Default)?
I’m a little puzzled (sorry) about what you are trying to do. Are you trying to add wordpress pages to the group / member directory menu?
In reply to: using classipress with buddypressWhat you are asking for sounds beyond what I would expect a theme to do. However, this forum really isn’t the best place to ask I would point you to ask the theme developers. I do know this may not be what you want to hear but truly they will be the ones that know their product the best, not those of us on this forum. I hope you have success contacting them and get a theme that works for you.
Just to be clear, what you are saying is that there are a number of things you think BuddyPress fails at with regards to social content sites and you’d like to see changed? If so I’d recommend you either / or post this in the Requests / Feedback section (it may get lost in this section) and also look to open tickets if you think it’s a valid enhancement request or bug https://buddypress.trac.wordpress.org/
Are you trying to build your own widget or add them as menu links? Ideally you shouldn’t remove things from the admin bar as that’s a control panel really for users but this link should provide a starting point for you:
In reply to: Seeking Advice on StylingWhen you say tweak it all depends on what you want to do as a lot you can simply do using CSS which means no needs to dive into the actual templates. I’d recommend a tool like Firebug http://getfirebug.com/ or Inspector depending on what browser you use. Using that you can view your page and inspect each element adjusting the CSS live and see the results.
Now, if you do want to dive deeper into templates it all depends on your theme. What should happen is your theme would be a child of BP Default ‘or’ use the template pack – I don’t know what theme you are using so don’t know what is the case. Some premium themes do bundle the files for BuddyPress (and often BBPress) in with the theme. Depending on your theme does also depend on where the BBPress template files may be. It could be it’s using default styling, it could be it has called it’s own – in this case the files would be in your theme folder. Ideally it should do the later if using customisation.
If you just end up doing CSS you can override in your themes CSS.
I would encourage you if you can to link in your site as it’s not the best way to view an image and diagnose CSS (or suggest if just can be CSS). Also stating what you want beyond you don’t like look – most things can be done in CSS but you may want more structural and for that it would be wrong to just suggest CSS.
In reply to: What can we do against spamSpam is a tough one to crack. Whilst I don’t claim to have the ultimate solution Captcha is a good step then also 1.6 as you said has measures. I also think that encouraging good community policing can help. Testbp is after all a test site so yes there may be some issues different there from an active community.
If you want to add code to this site please use backticks to add as otherwise we can’t see it.
Alternatively please use something like https://gist.github.com/ to provide a link to your code. This is a better method in my opinion and also helps if you have a large chunk of code you want to get opinions on.
In reply to: Problem with BloggingWhen you say ‘didn’t click the blog section’ where do think you should have clicked that? Are you also running multisite?
In reply to: RSS FeedEach person’s personal activity is on their profile’s activity stream. For instance:
http://testbp.org/members/johnjamesjacoby/
What I think you want to have is a filtered activity to only show people they are friends with – is that the case?
If that is then you want to look to customise the activity loop and a good starting point would be here:
https://codex.buddypress.org/developer-docs/custom-buddypress-loops/the-activity-stream-loop/
In reply to: How can I add pages to buddypress platformI’d like to check what you are trying to do here if that is ok. Are you trying to add pages to the entire BuddyPress site or just show extra pages when on the directory pages eg; members, groups? Or are you adding page templates to the theme directory for BuddyPress?
In reply to: Forums not scrolling down properlyThe issues appear to be CSS such as this:
`div.reply {
height: 32px;
}`I’d recommend not fixing things to height where you don’t know how much text would be in them.
This post while relating to slightly different things may help you get on track.
