To see if it is a theme issue have you tried or can you try the default theme and see what it does? I know in an active community this may not always be possible but it would be an indication once and for all if theme related.
Aside from that it could very well be a theme versus plugin issue and some scripting clashes. To determine / start looking at that though would it be possible to have a link to the site?
I’d use the default theme as a sanity check because that will tell you if set up or theme – hopefully
In reply to: Client Portal is it equal to Activity Stream?I’m just going to clarify what the activtity stream does and can do if you modify the loop.
“Activity Streams
Global, personal, and group activity streams with single-stream view. Included are threaded commenting, status updates, favorites, @mentions, RSS feeds, and email notifications.”https://buddypress.org/about/story/
https://codex.buddypress.org/developer-docs/custom-buddypress-loops/the-activity-stream-loop/ shows you how you can pass variables to the functions which means you can create custom filtering.
As a sanity check have you tried the default theme on it? What happens with that and favourites?
Also, here is a codex page relevant to using WordPress in a directory. https://codex.wordpress.org/Giving_WordPress_Its_Own_Directory
Usually when you can’t favorite something it’s either:
– A template issue (not using correct code to favourite)
– JQuery scripting error – I do see you have a few js errors so it may be those
– Perm link issue (You can reset these by going to settings and saving them).In reply to: Using BuddyPress with incompatible themesYou can adapt a theme to work with BuddyPress, your first port of call for that is to use this https://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/bp-template-pack/
In reply to: Register Page ProblemHi, have you checked if the latest pack on Suffiusion supports the latest WordPress/BuddyPress? I see this:
WordPress 3.0 or higher
Suffusion 3.6.8 or higher.
BuddyPress 1.2 or higherTo me, that may be the issue is that it is not compatible. I’d probably suggest contacting the pack authors to confirm.
In reply to: [Resolved] How to add time in blog post?The default theme uses https://codex.wordpress.org/Function_Reference/get_the_date so that would be a good spot for starting to modify that. It uses your set date and time format in WordPress under settings so you can modify that there and it will reflect on the theme.
“Default: the date_format option (‘Date Format’ on Settings > General panel)”
In reply to: Artisteer Software Vs. buddypressDo you mean this: http://www.artisteer.com/? If so I’m not seeing that it is designed to create a BuddyPress theme which may be the hurdle you’re encountering. I would suggest if you want an easier route to look at BuddyPress themes and / or the template pack for BuddyPress. I know it’s not a perfect answer but you could just find the task to fix too big for a support forum like this and tackling the root a better method.
In reply to: front pageYou can do a user check in the template file if you want using this: https://codex.wordpress.org/Function_Reference/is_user_logged_in
Maybe that would be a good starting point for you?
Adding a sidebar would require you to change the width of the content div and then also add in another get_sidebar call. https://buddypress.org/community/groups/creating-extending/forum/topic/buddypress-default-theme-12-add-more-sidebar-column/ is a good starting point.
As for changing the header – do you just want to change the header or the entire content area as it’s set to the full width of the site?
Hi, unfortunately it is a little bit hard to give advice on how you should change it without seeing what you have had happen. Would it be possible to provide a link to your site?
Without a link my advice would be to look at your CSS ‘wrapper’ or page classes and see if any of those are impacting the widths. I would recommend using a tool such as Firebug or Inspector to do this in your browser.
In reply to: Getting a php fatal error with bp-core-functionsProbably a good first step would be to ease some of the load and one by one remove those plugins – or remove them all add back in one by one. I find with errors like this often stripping back will help.
You could also ‘sanity’ check your theme by setting to the default BuddyPress theme – of course if a live community you may not be able to do this.
It’s a little hard to follow but my suggestion would be to follow the template pack instructions and not dip into two tutorials which unless I’m mistaken you are a little. The guide to the template pack also is just a guide there are so many ways of doing it theme wise that your theme may be structured differently.
If you are still having issues a good help may be to let us know what theme are you using and maybe a link so we can see the issue (if that is possible) for ourselves?
You should be fine with the last method as you say if that appears in your index.php. I do have one question on that though – did that appear after you did steps in template pack? If it was always there perhaps your theme is designed for BuddyPress anyway and won’t need the template pack? You only need it if your theme doesn’t support BuddyPress.
Have you used the template pack for BuddyPress? You need to either use that or make your theme a child theme of BuddyPress default. This is because the theme you are using is not a BuddyPress compatible theme from what I can see.
I’d suggest you look at wp_mail as the starting point https://codex.wordpress.org/Function_Reference/wp_mail. You can hook into the profile fields (with some custom coding) and send using that I think.
I would say looking at a plugin would be a good point to see code if not a direct solution for you.
It’s hard to say just not knowing your install and set up really. But, BuddyPress does work without Multisite so if you are having issues my advice probably in this case would be to export the contents you want and put on a fresh site.
However, others may have something better as this is a bit of a brutal fix. It’s just that so many things could be at play I’m always keen to strip back as much as can.
It seems you need to set some widths and CSS adjustments to your theme’s CSS – this usually happens when doing theme compatibility as it’s not a simple case of drop in. As a starting point I would suggest:
`#primary {
padding: 0 0 0 20px;
position: relative;
width: 50%;
float: left;
}`Which will for instance on the activity page pop the main body up and keep the sidebars.
In reply to: `Plugin for polls with hidden votes?Whilst not a specific plugin for that personally for polls http://polldaddy.com/ works well.
In reply to: How can I change the buttons?To change the buttons you want to be using CSS and possibly editing the template. What I would suggest though is you rather than editing the template try ‘all CSS” solutions.
The rough CSS for this would be:
{ background: url('imagelocation') no-repeat; height: sizeofimageheight px; width: sizeofimagewidth px; text-indent: enoughtonotshow px; overflow: hidden; }I’ll explain that a bit. What you are doing is loading a background image, then you are setting the height and width and positioning the text part outside of that so it won’t in theory show.
The class you want to link to you would be:
button, a.button, input[type="submit"], input[type="button"], input[type="reset"], ul.button-nav li a, div.generic-button a, .comment-reply-linkJust pick which ones you want for which images out of that list and do each one separately. You may need to set background-image rather than background to get around the gradients but the principle is there.
In reply to: [Resolved] Using non-buddypress themesIn theory you can use any theme but you’d have to use the template pack https://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/bp-template-pack/ to add the files you need which is what that link valuser supplied does. To be honest, it’s going to take some work / adjusting it’s a case of not knowing how much until you do it really.
If you are not comfortable with doing this then I’d personally recommend you also have a look at some BuddyPress themes. You can purchase themes for BuddyPress with all the support and bells and whistles of WordPress ones so perhaps that would be an option. There are also a number of very feature full and robust free themes for BuddyPress. https://buddypress.org/extend/themes/
When you say default are you pasting from YouTube (getting the url) or using a plugin to add them into BuddyPress? I ask because a plugin could mean a different route needs to be taken.
In reply to: User profile Pick a premade Design/themeWhilst not 100% what you are asking the current community developed theme for the next version of BuddyPress has a custom background and colour option. As it’s a community project you can download from Github and see how maybe that could translate to your project.
It’s a little hard to tell with a link when you’ve done something custom. However, my suggestion would be to set a width limit on the side bar or if you have one then look using CSS to decrease that font size – one thing has to go down or up to fit from what I’m seeing
In reply to: Login and logout issueTo be honest my first thought is some scripting clash with the behaviour you are suggesting. However, that’s hard to guess – is a link to your site possible? I would probably suggest you try with the plugin deactivated and maybe the default theme and the plugin. It could be your theme also – it’s hard to gauge.
Would you be able to tell us more about what theme / chat plugin you are using?
In reply to: [Resolved] jQuery conflictWordPress comes with jQuery rolled in so therefore does BuddyPress. You can see how to safely add scripts here: https://codex.wordpress.org/Function_Reference/wp_enqueue_script
If the avatar cropping isn’t working though the first step would be to check and see if there are any plugin conflicts. Deactivate all plugins then if that doesn’t work set the theme to default to test. A link maybe to your site if that is possible could help track down something should the above not work.
