You can take a slightly simplier approach:
div#content { remove the margin-left, float it right and set a width of say 80% *you may have to adjust this to fit }div#sidebar{ change to be a width % like 17% and float left, remove the margin left -100% }You will have to tweak this a little to work for yourself but this is a less restrictive approach and keeps some of the responsiveness of the default theme.
In reply to: [Resolved] How to modify the width of adminbar? You want to adjust the CSS here:
body#bp-default #wp-admin-bar .padder { min-width: 960px; max-width: 1250px; }You may also want to do:
#wp-admin-bar { width: 100%; }Depending on your theme.
Try putting that in your child theme with the changes you want.
In reply to: Worship MinistryOooo that’s nice. Really cool design consistency and that font for headers really is strong. I really like http://www.worshipministry.com/setlists/ too.
In reply to: Responsive BuddyPress Examples?Just to add, the default BuddyPress theme itself is responsive now. So, you can get responsive out of the box.
Many of those other themes do a bit more ‘responsive’ the default is a bit minimal about what it does but it was a conversion to responsive not done ground up.
In reply to: Cannot search buddypress.org support forums.Just to add what I’ve experienced today here, I can search just can’t use the pagination. It simply goes to the 1 page each time.
In reply to: Profile style switcher for each userWhilst it’s not just by style.css, the theme currently being developed as a community project for the next version of BuddyPress has a background and colour function that you may be able to use as a template to do something like you want. It’s open source so feel free to download from github and take whatever you want into your theme.

A word of caution though that theme is in beta currently.
In reply to: The comment option don’t work…Sorry just to clarify you mean they can’t comment on blog posts or status updates? If that is the case what theme are you using and do you indeed see a comment button? Is it the submitting of the form that doesn’t work or do you not even see a button to comment?
If you are looking at using Disqus this thread is a good starting point: https://buddypress.org/community/groups/creating-extending/forum/topic/buddypress-disqus-integration/
In reply to: sign up error pageOh that’s no fun going straight to an error page. Could you let me know if you set the pages up linking to each other when you installed BuddyPress? If so can you do a ‘sanity check’ and take off all other plugins and clear your cache then try again. Something else may be interfering.
Should none of that work if you can either provide a link or respond back with a few more details like what theme you are using that would be great.
In reply to: Header image problemJust to check but did you add that as a custom header under the admin side of your install?
Cool, glad that worked it can be a bit of a ‘where’s text hunt’ in what is theme or what is plugin.
Are you using the default theme or are you using a custom theme? I ask because that text should be in the theme and using a different language file.
You can find it under your theme main directory > members > single > profile > change-avatar.php.
In reply to: older wordpress siteAh sorry thought by you saying older site no updates you meant you’d not updated WordPress either.
Well there is the template pack you can use for BuddyPress https://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/bp-template-pack/. Or yes, you can go with making a child of Bp-default and that as your basis. I’d recommend creating a child theme.
Personally I’d be very sceptical over ‘free’ hosting. You are putting maybe your data on their site and personally I’d be sceptical about a free service like that. But, that’s my opinion everyone has their own.
In reply to: older wordpress siteIt may sound brutal but you really should be updating WordPress whether you are using BuddyPress or not. If your theme is limiting you then I’m afraid you do have to consider an alternative or update to it. Upgrades when done right shouldn’t effect your blog posts – it all depends though how far you’ve gotten behind though as to this task (and it won’t get less leaving it).
In saying this I do understand sometimes restrictions and issues happen that mean upgrading isn’t easy or as frequent. I usually find though that the issues in doing are out weighed by the benefits.
In reply to: FishSpot | Social Network for UK AnglersThe logo fits right into that theme that’s really cool like the header a lot. I guess for me a community which is about sharing photos, videos and stories and connecting perhaps should have a little more of that header personality though. I’d love to see maybe other elements of the site have some non-default styling. Perhaps the profiles or the sidebars would be a starting point.
There is a lot you can do to encourage people sharing to – perhaps a feature slider of users videos or a story page with a feature story of the week? I’m just throwing some ideas out there.
In reply to: NewsGaggle.comI really like the strong header and footer you’ve used there with the block format. I would maybe suggest you increase the width of the grid articles so they fill up the space a little. But, really cool use of BuddyPress love the idea of behind the scenes of media.
In reply to: Registration does not work with new child themeYou probably want to take a step back and look at how register.php is done in the default theme. You’re doing a few things differently and whilst I don’t know the reasons I’d recommend that as a starting point for you. For instance using the same form submitting:
`
In reply to: How do i find html codeI’m having a little difficulty working out what you are trying to do sorry. BuddyPress uses template files and it also allows you to add content. So are you saying you are looking for something in the template files?
If you want to find what html bits do what my recommendation would be Firebug or something similar http://getfirebug.com/.
I may be wrong about what you want to do so sorry if am but maybe that has helped a little?
In reply to: How to display site activity on HomepageYou can do this one of two ways:
1. Place a loop on your front page https://codex.buddypress.org/developer-docs/custom-buddypress-loops/the-activity-stream-loop/ is a great resource for this.
2. Make entire activity page your front page. To do this you simply go under settings > reading and select a static page and your activity page.In reply to: Hooking into the Group informationIf you want to add code not just CSS you probably want to use an action like here: https://codex.buddypress.org/developer-docs/action-reference/groups/
https://codex.wordpress.org/Plugin_API is a great ‘getting started guide’ on using those.
In reply to: Suggest a plugin? It kind of depends where you want to share it but there are a few suggestions here: https://buddypress.org/extend/plugins/?search=share
Currently unfortunately there is no unique class or anything you can hook into. However the new version (running on testbp.org now) has this:
`wp-admin-bar-my-account-activity`
That’s on the li so you could do a text-indent and swap in an image using CSS. But, that’s on the upcoming version so a solution for the future.
Hi, just took a look at your site and my first thought would be to try deactivating some plugins – I see quite a few javascript errors going on and it may be one of those is not playing nicely with your posting or something is misfiring. It’s kind of the first port of call but one I think may at least rule out some things to look into this further.
I’d also suggest you check your permlinks are saved (or resave just to be sure) and your BuddyPress pages all linked up under settings – did you do that as part of the configuration?
In reply to: Change Group Settings and RolesHmm not sure ‘out of the box’ BuddyPress can do this you may want to look at one of the membership plugin options out there. Most of those are paid though but perhaps a good start would be to look at a few of those. Alternatively someone else may have an idea of how that can be achieved without a plugin.
In reply to: Creating goals in buddypress communityGood idea sounds like a great plugin gap as I don’t think there is one unfortunately that fits ‘goals’ per say. You have got the Achievements App though http://achievementsapp.wordpress.com/about/ – perhaps that in some ways does what you are looking for? It’s not exactly what you are saying though.
In reply to: Friend requests not workingDo you have any plugins like a SEO one, membership one or something that would be causing redirects in your .htaccess file? Sounds maybe like something is interfering would be my first thoughts.
