In reply to: Profile wireframes
@FIQ: That’s quite an assumption to make, personally I thought through my wireframes. I’m not going to really comment on the exercise allegation as the developer chats are showing it’s not just that. You are free to check this by reading the irc logs: https://irclogs.wordpress.org/chanlog.php?channel=buddypress-dev (Wednesday 19:00 UTC is the developer chat). You are welcome to your opinion but please come along to see the action rather than assuming. Also please recognise those of us that are trying to do something here not just dismiss our work. We work together to a solution here not against each other and you are more than welcome to be part of that solution.
In reply to: Profile wireframesThe 3rd isn’t showing notifications it’s showing activity. Perhaps you mean what 2 shows for notifications though?
In reply to: Need Help With AlignmentIt’s worth noting that !important should only be used when the ‘cascading nature’ isn’t being used in a theme. If you do find like shawn38 said you need to use it you should look at why not just use it. Often you will find you don’t have to use it if use a more direct call like:
Say you have:
`
My header
`
Now.. h1 isn’t cutting it as there is a global h1 colour. But, you can try:
`.entry-title h1{
}`You are basically saying ‘this one right here’ not ‘all of them’.
Often this works better for pin pointing things and avoids what we should all be trying to avoid which is !important. It really is bad practice to use in this case without it being your last resort as it breaks the entire point of CSS ie; cascading.
In reply to: Profile wireframesI’ve had a look at some options bringing in notifications to the profile as was suggested by @djpaul. I have also added a custom header option to really provide personalisation for users. Avatars are good but they don’t ‘make a home’ so much as having that extra level of personality.
The menu area is longer to show more than anything what a longer navigation would fit – not look this isn’t about design.
<img

In reply to: Profile wireframesI think anything that relies that heavily on scripting for navigation will probably bring more issues than it solves to themes. Remember the idea is this doesn’t impact or force themes. It’s not something personally I think belongs in a default UI which we are creating remember. Yes, for theme options or a specific UI it has a place but this isn’t that.
Things like you are suggesting are far more theme than UI. I could see it being done as a released theme or being done as a custom theme. Just seems over kill for a default UI. I could be wrong but didn’t you bring that up before @ubernaut and it was vetoed? If this is menus (which it is) can we move it to the menu thread too please for consistency? Thanks.
In reply to: Profile wireframes@ubernaut: Hmm not sure how you think this would work in the front or even whether it should. Can you perhaps do a mockup of that not just show the customiser? In your screenshot that is the theme customiser that is now in 3.5 unless I’m mistaken. I don’t see how the should work or could work for default on the front profile.
In reply to: Profile wireframes@rogercoathup: yep you hit nail on head there, the idea is that this is purely the starting option for want of a better term. If you want to then take it and do whatever you want – the entire point of what we’re doing should mean that’s both easier to do.
My point with Facebook has an always will be that it doesn’t do everything right and it doesn’t do everything wrong. As you say, lets learn from it as one of many sources we can analyse.
In reply to: Profile wireframes@FIQ: This has half the page as the content area if you look not less than a 3rd. But, if you really are keen on other options please submit something as seeing wireframes would be great from anyone.
What about https://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/buddypress-mobile/ – it all depends on why you want an ‘app’ but that may be a good first stop solution?
In reply to: Edit AvatarAs a thought wouldn’t going to the profile work or is it a specific requirement to link directly to the avatar?
In reply to: BP Ajax and Javascript?I ‘may’ not have the right end of the stick with what you are looking to do but this:
`wp_enqueue_script( ‘dtheme-ajax-js’, get_template_directory_uri() . ‘/_inc/global.js’, array( ‘jquery’ ), bp_get_version() );
`You can hook into that ‘array’ if you want to.
https://codex.wordpress.org/Function_Reference/wp_enqueue_script
$deps
(array) (optional) Array of handles of any script that this script depends on (scripts that must be loaded before this script). false if there are no dependencies. This parameter is only required when WordPress does not already know about this script.
Default: array()The ‘non template’ approach would be to add an image to the CSS using a background setting then you can use the size / display settings to fix that:
`a.fav{
background:whatever;
}`You may need to do a direct call with a.button.fav if styles are overriding though.
In reply to: BP CapabilityJust to clarify, what is the official FLL theme? If you meant the BuddyPress Default them you do not need to add BuddyPress capability – it comes with it.
To my mind things like that kind of functionality are actually plugin territory and there is a solution here: http://code.google.com/p/buddypress-media/ – be worth checking out.
In reply to: New update Registration issueMy first though is have you updated all your plugins and theme (if there are new updates) to go with your BuddyPress install.
Secondly, have you re-saved both your permlinks and settings under BuddyPress – that would be through the admin?
In reply to: BuddyPress ecommerce pluginsWhen you say ‘BuddyPress’ the logins that people use are WordPress so if that’s all you want them to be able to do you are fairly open to solutions that work on WordPress. However, are you looking for more deeper integration with BuddyPress and your shop?
In reply to: Problem with Friending function BP 1.6.1Do you have a link to your site – be worth checking to see if a scripting issue?
When you say ‘each update’ do you mean of the theme or of BuddyPress?
In reply to: How to get activity plus to show up in mobile phoneIf I could just ask a few questions to narrow this down please.
Do you have a link to see on your site what is going on? Are you using a mobile plugin to switch the design to something when you are using Mobile? What theme are you using?
In reply to: Admin Bar Alternative MenuYou can use custom menus and widgets like this: https://codex.buddypress.org/extending-buddypress/how-to-set-up-your-main-site-navigation-using-the-built-in-wordpress-menus/
In reply to: How to hide homepage for log-in users?You could use this: https://codex.wordpress.org/Function_Reference/is_user_logged_in
So on the page have this for example:
` <?php
if ( is_user_logged_in() ) {
//show other content or no content
} else {
//show content
}
?>`Also you could just wrap entire page in:
` `
In reply to: [Resolved] posts and topics in groups not savedJust to confirm, the post goes from the list of group activity when you refresh? If that is the case have you tried using (if you can) the BuddyPress default theme – does it do the same thing? Have you any scripting errors on your page for instance JavaScript? Something could be also causing issues like plugins but lets take it step by step.
In reply to: url with ?upage don’t workThe first port of call would be to check if you are using a theme that is updated to BuddyPress 1.6 (if you are using it) or if you have checked using the default BuddyPress theme to see if something in your theme or system wide. Could you confirm either of those please?
In reply to: Theme issue – Page alignmentBy alignment do you mean you want them to align to the left or right? Or do you mean you don’t want the page full width like it is. You have no styling on:
‘#main_content’
This probably is the cause of a lot of your issues if want that to control everything in it.
It’s a little hard to work out though what exactly you do want so if you could clarify please that would be great.
This really does look like something in your theme is causing that. Are you using a child theme of BP Default? What theme are you using?
