Just came across this post. I really like the fact that colourlovers.com has managed to create a very passionate community. Look at the sponsors post..tons of people commenting that they would like to be a sponsor (for very few benefits IMO)

DJPaul, please let us know more about your achievements plugin. Can you tell us when it might be ready?

Daniel, does Akismet protect user blogs as well as the main blog? Do you install akismet in mu-plugins or plugins? Thanks.

Does this mod work in 1.0.1? Thanks.

[@kunal17 Participant 17 years, 5 months ago]

Ahh, Thanks Michael, Ill give that a try. I have been looking at WPMU documentation but havent come across the process to change user passwords yet.

[@kunal17 Participant 17 years, 5 months ago]

Aran, I think that is on purpose for security purposes.

Aron, which is the plugin that modifies the welcome widget for logged in users?

[@kunal17 Participant 17 years, 5 months ago]

Do I change it in the users table in the db? I don’t want to break anything so would rather ask before trying.

Thanks.

[@kunal17 Participant 17 years, 5 months ago]

Thanks Andy, how do I change the users pass?

[@kunal17 Participant 17 years, 5 months ago]

Jake,

I think you can definately achieve what you need using Buddypress. The home page does not have to be community focused at all and can be as flexible as any WordPress run website (you will have to install some way for members to access the community tho). You just have to customize and install the theme you need as the home theme.

How about just removing the blog excerpts or blog activity completely (since I have a latest blog posts widget anyway)?

[@kunal17 Participant 17 years, 5 months ago]

Apart from using a feedback and suggestions group, I also installed the Get Satisfaction widget yesterday. I believe it allows a community aspect to support (although it is external to the website).

[@kunal17 Participant 17 years, 5 months ago]

It installed perfectly for me. Still have to test it out tho.

[@kunal17 Participant 17 years, 5 months ago]

Hey Chris,

I also want this option. Which site did you see it on?

[@kunal17 Participant 17 years, 5 months ago]

Yeah he registered on my BP install too

[@kunal17 Participant 17 years, 5 months ago]

I think it is a great idea. I would definately use it.

Jeff,

Is it possible to automatically list the blog urls created by suggestion 1 on a page. Or even better, to integrate it onto the existing blogs list page?

[@kunal17 Participant 17 years, 5 months ago]

How do you use the code above? Paste it in a text widget?

[@kunal17 Participant 17 years, 5 months ago]

Windhamdavid, it does not seem to be working for me either. Do let me know if you find a solution.

[@kunal17 Participant 17 years, 5 months ago]

Thanks again Burt. Just wondering, how I would get the forum id for all the group forums.

[@kunal17 Participant 17 years, 5 months ago]

Thanks Burt,

Ill try the plugin first since I don’t code that well. The bbpress_live_get_forums() function might be used in bpress but Ill see if the other one can be used to show latest topics.

[@kunal17 Participant 17 years, 5 months ago]

Thanks Daniel,

I have added a polldaddy poll using the code in a widget since I have only 1 poll for now. I have not tried using it with the plugin yet. Do you know if it allows you to rotate polls automatically the way WP-Polls does?

[@kunal17 Participant 17 years, 5 months ago]

Excellent. Will def try this plugin when my website has enough members to want to sort in a logical manner

[@kunal17 Participant 17 years, 5 months ago]

Just checked out the site. The twitter search widget is exactly what I needed. Thanks for adding that in. Cant wait to try out the plugin on my site.

[@kunal17 Participant 17 years, 5 months ago]

I have also been looking for a stats plugin for WPMU/BP.

I wish I could figure out how to use statpress reloaded to work with BP. Thats what I use on my wordpress blogs.

how to create custom drop down lists for profiles like city, state etc? (I know that city and state come with the default install but I am looking for other countries)
