  • Let me make sure I understand because I went through this myself. You made a group now are you:
    a. trying to post a topic directly to the group
    b. created a forum but can’t post to the forum
In your initial post you said you created a forum and couldn’t post. Now you say you created a group and can’t post. The forum and the group are two different things. You can’t post directly to a group or a forum. You have to create a group, create a forum FOR that group and then post to that specific forum unless you have enabled some type of plug in so you don’t have to do that.

Did you create a group first? You have to create a group before you can create a forum.

That’s a cool looking site. Did you activate the new member from the cpanel? I noticed yesterday that once someone signed up they showed up as a new member but not as logged in until I activated them. Hope this helps.

I’m trying to find out the same thing. I would like to add them to the navigation menu.

    Hi Kenny
    Yes I did.

So I finally licked the email issue!
There were a couple of things going on:
    1. If you use Godaddy you have to send mail through their mai server. I thought SMTP relay wasn’t allowed on free hosting but it is.
    2. I used the WP-Mail-SMTP make sure that you leave the PORT NUMBER BLANK! That solved the problem! Once again DO NOT enter a PORT NUMBER!
    3. Also using the Mail From plug-in not sure if that has a bearing but threw it in for good measure.
Don’t know if leaving the port blank will work for other hosts but it’s worth a try!

Thanks Kenny. I forgot to also mention in my post that I am using godaddy free hosting which doesn’t come with SMTP mail and so I am trying to use Googles SMTP server. I tried both of the plugins mentioned above but I don’t think I tried them together so I will go back and do that. Three weeks WOW! I think I might be headed there though and I’m really anxious to launch the site.

    I resolved it.

Anybody? Is this question posted in the wrong area?

Well wasn’t sure if it’s a BP, WP or gmail issue so thanks for pointing me in the right direction.

I think what the above poster was saying is do you even need the apostrophe? Is it an Actors Network (a group of actors plural) or is it an Actor’s Network (a group belonging to actors)? In any case if it is Actor’s plural the apostrophe goes after the r not the s it only goes there in plural words ending in s. Sorry I’m a bit of a grammar geek.

    Looks PERFECT! Thank you!

That sounds simple enough except I can’t find that line anywhere not even using the find function.

I ended up changing my theme before I read this and that was the issue. Now, I need to know how to delete a group. Thanks for your help.
Do you also know how I can redirect log in from the WordPress sign in page to go directly to my site?

    Thank you very, very much!

    Hi Thanks for responding!
Yes, by manual install I meant FTP’ing the files. And by auto install yes from the control panel I clicked install which does work but when I try to activate I get the fatal error message. I am on godsddy shared hosting (the free account) and they claim I shouldn’t be having any issues. Some things work when I FTP the files and some don’t. I was able to nstall and activate the BP template pack but not BuddyPress do I need them both? I also see that there should be some options under appearance for the template pack but there aren’t. Is there a tutorial on how to use it?
