It will take you 3 months to do in Drupal what you could in 3 weeks in WPMU/BuddyPress. I’ve been there and am never looking back. If I do look back at my Drupal project I get shivers and I used to develop for Drupal, namely was part in creating the friendlist plugin (amongst others) if you are familiar with Drupal.
Forget about Joomla if you are worried about security holes, they are the worst of the pack.
In reply to: New blog theme available for the Groupblog pluginNot at this time…I’m not sure yet if a feature like this is on the horizon. We do however plan for admin to change blogs on a group per group basis, as currently you can only set the blog once.
When that is done we could possible include a disable user blog creation option, but it will be a while.
In reply to: New blog theme available for the Groupblog pluginThis error is harmless, I believe it has to do with wpmu auto update plugin and beyond the scope of the bp-groupblog plugin. Just make sure to deactivate the plugin before running automatic update and you will be fine.
As far as the icon, if you are overriding the bp-groupblog stylesheet, please make sure you are referencing to “li a#group-blog” rather than “li a#nav-group-blog” as that is the change made since 1.0. Otherwise I can not reproduce the missing icon.
Please keep in mind that auto-updating ONLY updates the files in the plugin folder and not the themes folder. So, if you have moved the groupblog folder and bp-groupblog theme folder, they are not updated. Which is good in a sense, since most likely you have changed these theme files and would not wish to override them.
In reply to: New blog theme available for the Groupblog pluginForgot to mention to read the readme.txt as installation has changed.
Basicly move the ‘bp-groupblog’ theme folder from /bp-groupblog/themes/ to your /wp-content/themes/ directory. Allow the theme to be activated in your wordpress backend and set it as default theme in the admin groupblog settings.
Anyway, thought I’d mention that for those who might need a bit more help.
In reply to: Getting a consistent lookAnother approach would be, in your header, wrap the main menu links with this code:
switch_to_blog( 1 )
...your main menu links...
restore_current_blog();Also check out this plugin, http://wpmudev.org/project/New-Blog-Defaults, it has a bunch of handy options for new blogs. Including setting a default blog theme.
In BP there are more ways to skin a cat
Thanks for sharing your solutions.
In reply to: Groupblogs error in logYes, it has been mentioned, but I have no clue about mysql stuff. I will need some help debugging this if anyone has time to help.

In reply to: Events missing icon / css?Feel free to create new tickets at the BP-Events project site:
http://trac.ywamnetworks.com/projects/bp-events
Besides that it should actually display the icon correctly if you follow the instructions as per readme.txt
In reply to: BuddyPress MultilingualDid you had to filter lots of hard-coded BP links to append ‘?lang’ ?
Or you are using some stripped down version of BP?
We used jquery to append

Having javascript enabled is essential for our site, so we were okay with that approach. Since our site runs on BP1.1 I am very eager for your update. I did a quick trial and error and see how it would handle BP1.1 out of the box, but it kinda choked for now.
In reply to: BuddyPress MultilingualThis is the best news jozik! We use WPML together with BuddyPress for our organization which is set up in Dutch and English. Through some creative hacking we manage to get WPML working, but only using the query approach ” ?lang=nl”. So the directory approach is much cleaner and really appreciated.
We also have created a quick little plugin called wpml-auto-settings which auto activates and configures the wpml plugin in the db for that newly created blog. The settings are hardcoded in the plugin atm. We needed this because our audience will not be able to enable plugins and configure wpml.
See our topic at your forums: http://forum.wpml.org/topic.php?id=203
While our little plugin works, is this something that could be considered to be core in your plugin? That is that the settings set by the site-admin could be site-wide for newly created blogs?
Great job though…looking forward for more development.
In reply to: bb-attachments and buddypress forumMaybe if your avatar had a smiley friendly face like Jeff, he would have

Just kidding, it is a shame, since _ck_ has many plugins.
I suppose once a plugin has successfully been converted to buddypress by someone, we could track the changes necessary to make compatible bp-forum plugins? I have no idea how hard it would be to make them compatible…not looked at it myself.
In reply to: "Auto Group Join" plugin addedOne suggestion: could you specify what group they join instead of having to put parameters in? This would make it perfect I reckon.
+1, indeed…we have many different courses. Instead of matching param it would be a very welcome feature to match group names manually to select options.
Great plugin already though!
In reply to: bp-events for bp 1.1 needs testing!Thanks for updating this plugin, however, the ‘Events’ doesn’t show in the navigation like the old version, and there is no longer and /events page like before, sorry if this is a stupid question.
Like I said, the directory view still needs to be ported. It is a major plugin, lot’s needs to happen still. We appreciate your patience.
In reply to: bp-events for bp 1.1 needs testing!Hi David, I have been very busy with a deadline at the office. Now with 1.1 out I am re prioritizing working on the BASE code for bp-events 1.1. Some stuff will need to be updated to reflect the gazillion bug fixes in BP 1.1. Eventhough it seems to work fine on my install, I will create another local install to see where it is at with the official BP 1.1.
My task has been really to port over the basic events functionality as a service to the community. Erwin will continue on this port and extend the features as he wishes. The biggest part that is not included with the current port is the directory view, since that was still in flux when I started porting so I left it till matured.
Give me some time as I also have another major plugin (group blog) that needs reworking of the code. However as I said, my aim is to help build a stable release for a bare bones bp-events 1.1. That is the most important task, upon which new features can be build.
Make sure to read the readme of the trunk as installation will be different and more compliant with buddypress methodology of installing plugins versus wpmu.
So…just a little more time or help is always appreciated
In reply to: New Groupblog PluginAs promised…for now it means changing the code inside the plugin as follows:
* Find this function groupblog_screen_blog() in bp-events.php (somewhere towards the bottom)
* Uncomment that whole function.
* Replace it with the following function:
function groupblog_screen_blog() {
global $bp;
if ( $bp->current_component == $bp->groups->slug && 'blog' == $bp->current_action ) {
bp_core_load_template( apply_filters( 'groupblog_screen_blog', 'groupblog/blog' ) );
}
}
add_action( 'wp', 'groupblog_screen_blog', 4 );* Create a folder in your active theme directory named ‘groupblog’.
* Then create your template file (in this case ‘blog.php’) in the groupblog folder.
Send me a message if you run into problems

The basic difference is that in this function we use bp_core_load_template to load our template file and fire an add_action to register this function.
In reply to: New Groupblog PluginAlso feel free to create new topics for suggestions or issues in the appropriate forum, since this thread is getting less and less specific.
In reply to: New Groupblog PluginI actually don’t use the plugin-template myself either
, but it is easier for people to install and upgrade though wp-admin, since you don’t have to move theme files around.I don’t have the opportunity to show how now, but will post later today when I get a chance.
In reply to: GroupBlog – How to Enter MessagesWhere did you expect to enter messages? When the groupblog plugin is activated it will create a blog for that group. You can then visit the backend of that blog and make posts like you normally do with WP. Note that users are actually added to the blog when they visit an actual blog post of that group.
Currently we have not implemented posting blog posts from the group yet, but it is on our to-do list, at least for quick text only posts. In this way it would behave much like creating forum topics.
We are retooling the plugin after BP 1.1 gets out, so look out for some changes (mostly under the hood) in October/November.
In reply to: Changing Group AdminsBP 1.1 can do this…so upgrading when official version is released, is recommended.
In reply to: New Groupblog PluginPosting from the theme we will look into, but will most likely need help (need to be installed) from additional plugins like TDO Forms.
Plugins that support hide/disable the dashboard already exist (I’m pretty sure) and will not be implemented in this plugin as it seriously cripples your blog abilities.
In reply to: CSS Styling Not Active In 1.1-pre Default ThemeShooting of one in the dark, but try deleting the bp-themes folder from the buddypress directory now that you’ve moved the themes over.
When you say “naked” you mean the stylesheet is not loaded?
In reply to: bp-events for bp 1.1 needs testing!paths are set dynamically to the plugin folder and theme folder, etc, but the plugin folder names should remain the same. Try and rename all the folders of buddypress to random names, I don’t think so

I doubt that piece of stray code comes out of bp-events, I can not make anything out of it.
In reply to: bp-events for bp 1.1 needs testing!Okay… abit of Googling, it looks like Call-time pass-by-reference is indeed deprecated, which should be fixed. It is probably a warning error, so for the time being you could turn off error-reporting or google for a fix to set a flag in your ini file to allow that reference. If you are on a shared host you can do it also via your htaccess file.
In reply to: bp-events for bp 1.1 needs testing!With the many core changes as of late, I’m updating the different functions as 1.1 beta roles out. However I am unable to duplicate the issues you mention as of yet. It actually looks like a config issue with your server as it is suggesting a solution to adjust your ini file.
Also it looks like your bp-events folder is name bp-events2, which will not work since it will not load the required files appropriately.
In reply to: CSS help requiredThis is an easy fix. You are indeed floating the .inner-tube to the right on line 60 of your base.css. The best way (imo) is to set the overflow to auto or hidden for the parent element. This method is the best and most cross-browser solution.
So just add the following to your base.css:
.main-column {
overflow: hidden;
}
That should do it.
In reply to: Don't want to use widgetshttps://codex.buddypress.org/developer-docs/custom-buddypress-loops/
Look through the right column. It should have all the loops you need to construct your desired listings.
