In reply to: Member Search by Name and Letter doesn’t work
I’m running WPMU 2.7 and BP 1.0b2 and this works w/o a problem as long as the user has entered a “full” name.
I also find users that entered their full name on registration (as this is required by the site).
In reply to: field groups – where do they show up?As I said – “hacked in there”
Hi Paul.
With “save these values” do you mean that the values aren’t saved when you create the fields or when the users selects the appropriate value in their profile?
In reply to: field groups – where do they show up?Not that I know of (but I’m sure they could be hacked in there).
In reply to: deleted blogs showing up in blog listingI just get a normal “plain” WP blog at that URL and not BP.
In reply to: Date Format IssueThat sounds like you need an updated translation file for german.
The BP 1.0b2 release added a few more lines to be translated to the mix.
In reply to: Up and running – But No groups..Hi.
What error do you get when you try and create the groups?
There’s a sticky that details the BBPress integration (https://buddypress.org/forums/topic.php?id=471).
You configure how you want new blogs to be created in the admin tool of WPMU (IIRC).
In reply to: deleted blogs showing up in blog listingWhat is the url of your site?
What version of WPMU and BP are you using?
In reply to: buddypress blogs – want to tweak…You could try and create a hidden blog and change the theme for just that to see if you can manage the widgets. Alternatively post a link to the theme you’re using and I’ll give it a spin on my setup.
As for the avatars… Do you have the “blog.dir” folder in your “wp-content” folder?
Looking at the path you’re posting above (/wp-content/member-themes/buddypress-home/index.php) it seems as if you’ve selected the BuddyPress home theme as the default theme for your member pages and not the actual member theme.
I’m not sure how you’d be able to do that though.
What are the contents in your “member-themes” folder?
In reply to: Problems with umlautsI had issues with UTF-8 encoding, although not the ones Karl mentions, due to my host running my sites on a PHP 4 server. After a move to a PHP 5 server the problems went away.
In reply to: Promote member to group admin?Nevermind, after some digging I found this feature request that explains that this isn’t possible yet: https://trac.buddypress.org/ticket/309
Feel free to close this thread.
In reply to: Required name and logout issuesI don’t know why you’re not allowed to post an URL – it works fine for me.

And I’m all out of ideas, sorry. Hopefully someone else can help you with the more technical questions you have.
In reply to: Avatar Upload ProblemsAs I mentioned above, start with 777 to see if that helps (“chmod -R 777 blogs.dir”). If so then you know that it has to do with permissions on the folders. Then you need to find out, as DJpaul mentions, what user needs to own the folder.
The “nobody” user is most likely not the one as that is the current owner when you get the error. In my case I had to reset the owner from “httpd” (the webserver) to my own account. How you do this varies – in my case I had to run a script provided by my host.
Try and set the owner and group to the user/account you log into the server with, then reset the permissions to 755 and check if it still works.
In reply to: buddypress blogs – want to tweak…I’m running IE (8 even) and that’s not the problem with Laura’s site (nor have I’ve seen it on my own setup).
The registration steps works fine, it’s the end result that is the problem.
In reply to: Required name and logout issuesThat could very well be the cause although I’m not sure what it could be.
Can you re-upload all the files online again to see if that helps?
In reply to: Required name and logout issues(You don’t need to insert code, just copy and paste the text straight into the post.)
It seems as if I’m not skilled enough to help you further as I have no idea what this could be.
I see that you have a custom theme though. Can you try and revert to the default BuddyPress theme and see if that works?
In reply to: Avatar Upload ProblemsMy host have this problem as well. Set your permissions to 777 (full access) on the “blogs.dir” folder in “wp-content” just to be sure and test again. That way it doesn’t matter who owns the folder.
I needed to manually do this for every folder that got created below the “blogs.dir” folder until the uploads worked.
In reply to: deleted blogs showing up in blog listingHi Andy.
I can’t reproduce the error that John is talking about on my install (WPMU 2.7, BP 1.0b2) and when going through the steps to reproduce the cache related error I was talking about I realize that bp is working as intended.
I felt that entries in the activity stream should be removed when a user removed, for instance, a blog post but just because a user removes a blog post doesn’t mean that it hasn’t been posted at one time.
Sorry about that, my brain has been going on overdrive for way too long. I’ll be more careful when it comes to crying wolf the next time.
In reply to: buddypress blogs – want to tweak…Hi again.
I didn’t realize that it was the “sub-blogs” that you we’re talking about when I posted but now I know what you mean.
That kind of functionality is usually handled by widgets but perhaps it’s hard coded into the theme. Are they there no matter what theme you use?
As for the avatars, I’m not sure I’m on the right track to be honest now that I’ve done some digging. The path for your avatars (http://mobiusmanitou.com//avatars/4/alien20-avatar1.jpg) is not even close to the one on my setup (http://komiformguiden.se/wp-content/blogs.dir/1/files/avatars/3/elder_sign_small-avatar1.jpg).
Why those differ I have no real clue to though. Perhaps Trent, Burt or Andy can chime in on that.
In reply to: deleted blogs showing up in blog listingThis is something that others experience as well. I can’t tell you if it’s by design or just something that haven’t been taken care of yet.
The same is true for activities and other “aggregated views”.
In reply to: buddypress blogs – want to tweak…Hi Laura.
Are you talking about the so called “widgets” that display information on your site (I can’t see the items you mention when I visit it)? These are responsible for showing, among other things, categories, recent posts, comments, and so on.
You can remove these from the WordPress admin page, under the Appearance section.
As for the problems with the avatars I’m not sure (I created a test account, MartinNr5, feel free to delete it if you wish). There might be a problem with the graphics library on the host that you have your site with so that the images isn’t processed properly.
Can you check with them to see if they support the minimum requirements for WordPress and buddypress?
In reply to: Required name and logout issuesWhat is the exact problem you get? In what way doesn’t the logout URL work?
As Andy mentions in the sticky post about the new beta you need to update your themes with the latest code as well (functions.php IIRC).
In reply to: Required name and logout issuesI’m sorry but I have to disagree. I have MartinNr5 as a user name but I still want to use my full name in the rest of the site. It makes it a lot more personal in my opinion.
Have you solved the redirect problems?
In reply to: Required name and logout issuesHi.
As for nr 1 I don’t follow. The WPMU user name field is for logging in to the site. The bp full name field is used everywhere else in bp whenever a user is referenced. So they shouldn’t ever “overwrite” eachother.
At least this is how it works for me.
2) Are you using the latest beta build (or trunk)? If you mix and match releases these redirect errors can and will occur. I had them myslef until I installed the latest version of the bp theme.
