In reply to: Adding Register Notice to Admin Bar?
True. I just wanted to clear that up first. So if you want to replace “Sign Up” with what you mentioned above:
https://codex.buddypress.org/extending-buddypress/customizing-labels-messages-and-urls/In readme.txt of BuddyPress Group Activity Stream Notifications plugin:
!!!!!THIS PLUGIN IS NO LONGER SUPPORTED!!!!!
It is recommended that you instead move to BuddyPress Group Email Subscription:
https://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/buddypress-group-email-subscription/
!!!!!THIS PLUGIN IS NO LONGER SUPPORTED!!!!!In reply to: New Member Activation Email not sent Redux@thealchemist if your WP is multisite, you can use dsader’s plugin https://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/user-activation-keys/
In reply to: Adding Register Notice to Admin Bar?There’s a “Sign Up” link notice in adminbar if you allow registration, beside the “Login” link see http://testbp.org/
Registration is disabled by default, so if you’re not seeing the Sign Up link, you should go to admin dashboard > Super Admin > Options – Registration Settings – Allow New Registrations – check any other than default “Registration is disabled”
Edit- for single WP install, go to dashboard > Settings > General Settings – Membership – Anyone can register and below that, you can choose Suscriber role.
In reply to: having trouble creating a child theme=== I’m assuming i have to activate the child theme in the main wordpress dashboard, is this correct? ===
Yes. Activate the child theme in dashboard of WP site where BuddyPress is installed. So if your BP is in main/primary site, activate child theme in dashboard of main site.
In reply to: having trouble creating a child theme=== do you think i am correct in my assumption that there is another style.css that i am supposed to be importing into the child theme, that i missed? or do you think there is another explanation for why the child theme style is ‘off’? ===
Your mockup style.css is importing from the bp-default theme in BP plugin folder http://electioncandidates.com/wp-content/plugins/buddypress/bp-themes/bp-default/_inc/css/default.css
while the pre-mockup style.css is importing from the bp-default theme in themes folder http://electioncandidates.com/wp-content/themes/bp-default/_inc/css/default.css where the styling has already been revised/customized. Initial scan comparing the stylesheets already shows that min and max width is set to 996px in pre-mockup; while your mockup still has the BP default styling of min width of 960px and max width of 1250px just as an example of the difference.Copy over the styling of `default.css` and `adminbar.css` from the pre-mockup to your theme’s `/_inc/css/` folder and change the import call
from
/* Inherit the default theme styles */
@import url( ../../plugins/buddypress/bp-themes/bp-default/_inc/css/default.css );
/* Inherit the default theme adminbar styles */
@import url( ../../plugins/buddypress/bp-themes/bp-default/_inc/css/adminbar.css );
to
/* Inherit the default theme styles */
@import url(_inc/css/default.css );
/* Inherit the default theme adminbar styles */
@import url(_inc/css/adminbar.css );

In reply to: Activity Stream RepliesAlso, change theme to bp-default theme and deactivate BP plugins except BuddyPress to see whether it’s cosmic buddy theme code or if there’s another reason that’s preventing you from posting updates to activity stream.
In reply to: not showing registration link on homepage=== There is no Super Admin panel, not to mention no choice either in the drop down menu at the top of the buddypress toolbar, or in the wordpress dashboard called ‘options.’ ===
Super Admin and special Options panel only show up for WordPress multisite installations – so if you want those but more importantly, you want to allow your members to create blogs in your site then read this https://codex.wordpress.org/Create_A_Network
=== buddypress not posting the link for the codex anywhere on this site ====
Sure there is a link. Click on “Support” tab in main navigation then click on “Documentation” link that appears in line below main navigation.
In reply to: PLEASE- BP ALBUMS, CANNOT CROP IMAGES@xevo it’s probably BP Media nee BP Album+, not Brajesh’s BP Gallery
In reply to: attaching pdf fileCan you be more specific, PDF files can be “attached” to regular Posts or Pages. Where did you want to attach the PDF file?
In reply to: Buddypress / Multisite issueWhite screen of death – https://codex.buddypress.org/troubleshooting/blank-pages/
=== I certainly can do that, but am hoping to be able to manually fix the broken code. ===
Consider the time you’ve already spent trying to fix what’s going on with your new install and compare that with 20 minutes or so backing up database and server files, then dropping DB tables and deleting htaccess, reuploading WP files, going through the installation process, then creating a network and checking that everything’s going well with your installation before installing BuddyPress. I can only say that unless you’re seriously considering debugging the Enable Multisite plugin and reporting it, go with fresh install. Of course, it’s all up to you. Good luck.In reply to: Activity Stream Replies@senTralsuLcus did you enable Activity Streams in admin dashboard > BuddyPress > Component Setup? If you did and it’s still not showing up, check if you have the latest version http://buddydev.com/themes/cosmic-buddy/ or leave a message at theme page
In reply to: BP postingI don’t recall where I read it, but doesn’t Suffusion theme author roll out his own version of BP Template Pack compatible with Suffusion theme? Contact him first.
In reply to: BP postingObviously that’s not the default behavior. Change theme to bp-default theme and leave only BuddyPress activated in plugins. Clear cache. See if same behavior persists.
@Reeves246 Cheers

You’re welcome

Simplest way – Your child theme should have a `style.css` file where you can add the changes to default styling under the import `@` calls you made (if any). e.g. `body { background-color: #000000; }`
In reply to: How to change the child theme createdFollowing this, https://codex.buddypress.org/theme-development/building-a-buddypress-child-theme/
you can add styling directly on style.css file of your child themeIn reply to: Buddypress version of wordpress 'mystique' theme?I’ve just checked your site. Looks like you’ve disabled BuddyPress.
Is this a new installation or did you recently upgrade WP? WP/BP versions? What theme are you using?
Deactivate all plugins but leave BuddyPress activated and use bp-default theme. Clear cache. See if the same erratic behavior shows up.
Go to your admin dashboard > BuddyPress > General Settings
See “Disable activity stream commenting on blog and forum posts?” Click on “Yes” buttonIn reply to: bp social theme problem@ivailoski please contact theme author as that is a premium theme which would require us to purchase it first to assist you.
My best guess would be to open up a home.php file in your theme, make a copy of it to be safe e.g. home-original.php, open up home.php and delete the section which would probably a featured div or something like that. Reupload to theme’s folder in server. If you deleted the correct div block, then all’s well. If something goes wrong, replace the mucked up home.php with the copy you made of it.
In reply to: How to allow members to create their own blogs?== Firstly, I can’t find the httpd.conf file they want me to edit. I do have the ability to add subdomains so I wonder if putting * in the cpanel field will suffice.==
Depending on your hosting plan, some webhosts do not allow users to have access to httpd.conf file. Note that the subdomains created by WordPress are “virtual” not “physical” or actual subdomains you would create in your cPanel. And yes, sometimes just adding `*` in field will suffice, sometimes not.
Have you tried to
– install WordPress and go straight to Step 3 and see if you can already set up subdomain structure – there will be feedback/notice in admin panel whether you can or cannot go subdomain
– Contact webhost if your hosting plan allows for WordPress Multisite in subdomain structure and point them to the WP Codex page re “Create A Network” to get a definitive answer. Some webhosts require server plan upgrade, some don’t.Change theme to bp-default theme and see if same behavior persists. If not, then contact Social Theme author for resolution.
