@burtadsit Great thread you pointed us to. I came away with the feeling that we can all achieve this objective without a ton of coding but I feel like we should flush out the concept 1st. Conceptually, I am trying to achieve what @feconroses is ….a community with a main central blog that they can post more in-depth pieces than you might find on a forum and then a bunch of groups centered on topics. In a perfect world, I could either give each group a “blog” to post things on or somehow associate tagged main blog posts to a particular group (thru categories maybe?) Bottom line is this: our community is looking for engagement. Not the ability to run their own blog inside a community. BP is clearly well suited but just needs a few tweaks to get there.

Oh, working on the bowling league plugin

Victory. Start clean, stay clean. All works. The readme in the bp-forums folder was key. Thanks, guys

Andy et al, I may have found your Groups bug (or one of them) BP doesn’t like when you create or modify (esp modify) a group with the News field empty. I can more easily repro the error if I actually populate the News field 1st, then try and change the group title or something, and delete whatever was in the news feed. Add anything back in and it’s fine. Not sure if this is related to the bbPress probs as I have started from scratch and am proceeding. Let me know if you want me to submit this as a bug. Cheers

I was, like most with this problem, able to create groups but unable to get a functioning bbPress to play nice with BP. Was hopeful seeing Wardeh figure it out but my install is regressing. I am current on trunks for both WP and BP but am still unable to create groups anymore. SO..Given that I have no data, I wiped the domain clean and started fresh and updated. On a fresh install, I can do everything as before…except create groups, leading me to think it’s not WP or BP, per se, but something I have set incorrectly somewhere. Any advice?

Trent – I’ll pay you money if you can get mine to work. For 2 days I have lost my ability to create groups and have yet to be able to add a Topic in a forum. michael@prattvoute.com. Thanks ahead of time

Almost Victory….but then let down. So, when I decided to go back and do a completely manual key & salt check, I discovered that some of the keys had random stuff in the field. So, I manually entered each one in the bbPress WP integration panel. Now, when I go to my test forum, I don’t get the red error. In fact it looks like it’s working fine but then returns me to the previous state that says I have no topics. Back to the drawing board.

wardeh – would it be poss to pick your brain on some questions/issues I have on my BuddyPress site plan? I am at michael@prattvoute.com. Would be a great help. Thanks

for the record, I have bbPress properly installed (I assume) and all appears fine except Postng Topics. No time to debug so I will await a solution as it seems to be a common issue

Hey burtadsit – funny – I figured I’d do theme work as well until someone chimed! I’ll admit to you that this is my 1st MU install, all the others were vanilla WP jobs. Wierd. I use hostgator and they are a little off in the way they store your files. Just found it via another route. Disregard. Will give the bbPress install a go. Thanks. You’ll likely be hearing form me again.

I’m gonna dumb down this forum a tad (apologies guys) but

    1. id bbPress a requirement for any forum functionality in BP?

    if so

    2. Why would I NOT have a wp-config in my WPMU install directory (only the sample file) (and thus no SECRET_KEY value even set to assist in bbPress install)

Thanks. Back to our regularly schedule high-level discussion

I am new to bbPress but not WP and have BuddyPress moving along nicely. If BP already has forums for each group then why do we need bbPress? Added forum functionality vis a vis a replacement of the BP forums or do both coexist side by side in BP?

Thanks Guys. I’ll throw this out there: If anyone on the BP project or elsewhere wants to give me an assist to quickly configure it and set it up to meet this usage – I will gladly let you show it off as a shining example, etc. Would love to call someone and ask a few questions so I build it properly

aside from that, this use case seems appropriate?
