Once BP1.3 is released, this issue should be resolved as it will use WP pages for components. You will then be able to use s2member’s page access restrictions for components like Members. In the meantime, you can protect any component directory from unauthorized member levels by editing its index.php template.
Add the following just after the opening `
` tag:“
Then add this just before the corresponding closing `
` tag:
`
You could add a message here for users who do not have the right access level.
`See the “s2member” > “API/Scripting” section for more examples of how to customize the restriction or display of specific content.
In reply to: WP 3.0.4 Multisite Breaks BP ForumYou just learned the hard way
that when trying to track down a problem, start by deactivating all plugins and revert back to bp-default. Then reactivate things one-by-one, starting with your theme.9 times out of 10, the problem will be a plugin conflict.
In reply to: How to make a share link servise for buddypressVery cool idea!
Should cut down on the copy/paste/link/embed routine and open up a whole world of sharing possibilities.
And I agree about the badge plugin. Do you know if anyone has stepped up with an offer to continue development?https://buddypress.org/community/groups/bp-xtra-signup/ (for TOS, password strength meter, username availablity…)
https://buddypress.org/community/groups/welcome-pack/ (for welcome emails… might need updating though…)
https://buddypress.org/community/groups/buddypress-humanity/ (for arithmetic or alphabetic human check… simple and efficient)In reply to: How to make a share link servise for buddypressYou mean, kinda like the Buddypress Badge plugin that seems to have died a slow death?
In reply to: New theme – now availableHeads up!
The new version of BuddyLite is now available for download at http://buddylite.com/buddylite-basic/
Full custom menu support and integrated navigation are included (no need for my Add-All-Nav-Links-to-BP-Adminbar plugin anymore with this version).
So are widgetized front-page, widgetized footer and full-width page templates.
Custom header support has been modified to reflect the header dimensions you set in the theme admin panel.
A custom-CSS section makes changing the look and feel of your theme a breeze.Go ahead and grab it… and have fun!

PS – I’m also working on keeping the theme up-to-date with the progress on BP1.3, so a compatible version will be available within a week or so of the release of BP1.3. With BP1.3, the BP-Default theme passes the WP theme review. So, the 1.3 version will be submitted to the themes repo and should be (hopefully) approved too!
(Now I’m off for some relaxation with a pizza and a movie… yum!)
In reply to: Chat Rooms, Chat Scripts – Any Recommendations?3 come to mind right off the bat:
Comet Chat seems to work out of the box on BP, but it comes with a pricetag: http://www.cometchat.com/buy
Bowob Chat has both free and premium versions, but the free one comes with ads: http://buddypress.bowob.com/
And then there’s Brajesh’s BP-Chat, but it’s still being developed: http://buddydev.com/buddypress/bp-chat-a-facebook-like-chatting-plugin-for-buddypress/Go to “Settings” > “Permalinks” and set them to anything but “Default”.

Sidebar Placement
Main Sidebar Width
Secondary Sidebar Width
Custom CSSI’m also taking time to update both BuddyLite and BuddyBuilder in anticipation of the upcoming release of Buddypress 1.3.
In reply to: New theme – now availableYup, big updates! Check ’em out at http://BuddyLite.com/
I’m overhauling the BuddyLite theme to bring it up to speed with the premium BuddyBuilder framework.
With BuddyBuilder, you can design, download, edit & share pretty much any style you like.In reply to: Need help updating a function for BP1.3Well, you answered this one:
https://trac.buddypress.org/ticket/3007Have you thought of a different tack?
I just replied to your query at bp-tricks
Here’s the same answer: bp-custom needs to go in your /plugins/ directory, not /buddypress/
Hope it helps!
Hurray!
The code snippet works just fine in functions.php. That’s good news for a theme designer: no worries about a theme overriding a user’s custom configurations in bp-custom.php.
Now I’m off to add “Group Landing Page” as an option in my new theme. It’ll be incorporated with the theme’s “Alternate Header” option too.Then I’ve got to adapt the code to work with member profiles. My initial attempts have failed, but I’ve been known to be persistent at times

For future reference, here’s the code snippet to add to functions.php or, if you have created it, bp-custom.php.
You can see it in action here: http://rspacesandbox.org/ Click any group.`function redirect_groups_to_forum() {
global $bp;
$path = clean_url( $_SERVER );
$path = apply_filters( ‘bp_uri’, $path );
if ( bp_is_group_home() && strpos( $path, $bp->bp_options_nav ) === false )
bp_core_redirect( $path . $bp->bp_options_nav . ‘/’ );
}
add_action( ‘wp’, ‘redirect_groups_to_forum’ );`This is a great find! I asked that very same question not too long ago:
https://buddypress.org/community/groups/how-to-and-troubleshooting/forum/topic/how-to-make-profile-the-default-tab-without-editing-wp-config/Even posted an enhancement suggestion in trac where I was led to believe it can’t be done.
https://trac.buddypress.org/ticket/3007Now I find the reference in the link supplied by @zkwc and, lo and behold, it looks like it CAN be done.
I can’t wait to test this out in my new BuddyBuilder theme framework.
If it works well, I’ll incorporate the idea in so users can select ANY one of the default subnavs as group home.In reply to: New theme – BuddyBuilderI just started putting together some template packs for popular plugins to get them working seamlessly with all the features in BuddyBuilder.
So far, we have template packs for BP-Gallery and Buddypress Links, and have a suggestion for Jet Event System. Need to update the BP-Links pack to v0.5 though, hadn’t seen that update til now

If you have a plugin in mind you think should be supported in BuddyBuilder or BuddyLite, please let me know
In reply to: How to make a private community?Shouldn’t that line be:
`if( bp_is_register_page() || bp_is_activation_page() || ($bp->is_directory && $bp->current_component == ‘your-links-directory-slug’) )`
The added param should be between parentheses ‘cuz the “&&” applies only to the “is_directory”, no?
In reply to: Buddypress Template File Corresponding…Uh-oh… here’s another page that looks like it’s getting messed up by some bit of code.
In reply to: New theme – BuddyBuilder@djpaul – Thank you!
In reply to: New theme – BuddyBuilderThanks! “FunkyBuddy” is serious fun!

I was rummaging through some backgrounds and, when I found that one, well, it was Studio54 time all over again (he says, flashing back to 1978). I just HAD to use it for something!Lol… got a response in trac… from the same fellow who responded in this thread: can’t be done.
At least now it’s official

+1
In reply to: Issue with BuddyPress pages and alignmentLooks like all that code up yonder has somehow done something wacky to this page!
In reply to: Setting up registration with buddypress and s2memberIf you’re running a multisite install with s2member, make sure you’ve enabled ‘Allow Open Registration’. You’ll find the setting under ‘s2member’ > ‘Multisite Config’ > ‘Multisite Registration Configuration’.
If you’re running a single site install, I’m not sure where that setting would be located in s2member, but it’s probably in there somewhere. Maybe ‘general Options’?
