    Just tried adding the global and the conditional as I think has been suggested ( ;-) ).

    It’s here: http://pastebin.com/PAyLNmES
    on lines 2, 7 & 65.

    Is this correct? With this code running, no dropdowns show anywhere. They should show, but only on the main site.

    Hi guys… nap’s over.

    Thanks for continuing on this fun little ploblom!

    @hnla I’m trying to wrap the entire ul containing both the “Community” dropdown AND the WP pages dropdowns so that they ONLY appear on the main blog (yes, it’s multisite on WPMU2.9.2 and I just upgraded to BP1.2.5.2).

    @r-a-y Should the global be called before function pages() is started, or within it?

    Time for a nap with my cats. That always helps me think…

    Hi @r-a-y Glad you could join in!

    I just tried wrapping the ul in…

    php if($current_blog == ‘1′):

    …but that doesn’t want to work either. Both ideas make all BP and WP links disappear from the adminbar. The only thing left is the “My Account”, “My Blogs”, “Notifications” links.

    I managed to fix the problem with WP page links in the adminbar in the backend by simply hardcoding the ones I don’t want:
    “

    But I still can’t get the darned “Community” dropdown off member blogs. Frustrating, but I’ll keep trying stuff…

    Come to think of it, BP1.3 will use WP pages for BP components. Add the custom menu capability of WP3.0 and this whole code idea will become redundant, no?

    …use a conditional to check whether the main site is being viewed…

    That’s exactly what I’m trying to do but can’t seem to get it right :-(

    Thanks for the encouragement!

    But before I release this nifty code as a plugin, I gotta figure out how to stop the added links from showing up on member blogs, and in the WP dashboard.

    For ex, on member blogs, the “Community” dropdown is creating links to non-existent stuff like mainsite.com/sub-blog/forums. See a test blog on my site here: ( http://nowrecovery.com/justfunstuff/ ). In the backend, even pages that are set to be excluded from menus (via Exclude Pages plugin) are appearing. Not good.

    Still hoping for clues/help from @hnla who supplied the added code for WP3.0 :-)

    Don’t know about the post, but here’s the plugin:

    Thanks for the update for WP3.0! I’m still trying to find my way with basic php and am just now getting my head around functions, actions, hooks, et al.

    To whit, I discovered my code is causing the Community dropdown (contains all BP links) to appear in the adminbar in member sub-blogs. The WP pages do not appear in member blogs though.

    If I turn this code into a plugin (and I want to try my hand at that) I think would be good to include the option for super-admins to include/exclude BP and WP dropdowns in member blogs. I can’t figure out how to code that though. Any suggestions?

    The code I’ve posted is actually quite simple when you get right down to it. Simple yet powerful. It does everything you want a dropdown menu to do, and it does it all automatically behind the scenes.

    It starts by identifying what links belong to dynamically generated BP directories and adds those to the adminbar in a Community dropdown. To that same dropdown, It then adds all BP directories that are created by any BP plugins you may have installed.

    It then identifies all WP pages and adds them to the adminbar also. The really cool part is no matter how you’ve set up your WP page hierarchy and page order in your dashboard, that will be preserved in hierarchical dropdowns like the following example:

    Parent page 1
    – Child page 1
    — Grand-child page 1
    – Child page 2
    – Child page 3…

    Go ahead, give it a whirl. Copy the code to bp-custom.php and upload to your plugins folder. No need to activate anything; Buddypress will recognize and execute the code.

    Take a look at my homepage: http://nowrecovery.com/

    The first dropdown is all Buddypress. The ones after it are all WP. If you create an account and login, you’ll see all the adminbar goodies appear to the left and bump everything else to the right.

    There’s gotta be a “How to Build a Plugin” tutorial around here somewhere…

    @Jens Wedin @alanchrishughes

    I was looking for a way to include all navigation links in one navbar. Jens’ code snippet is brilliantly simple. Thanks!
    The only drawback is you have to add links manually to get them to appear in the adminbar.

    I’ve modified the code (borrowing inspiration from a snippet previously written by @David Lewis) so that:
    1 – all “standard” BP Directory links appear automatically in their own dropdown;
    2 – all BP plugin directories (Links, Gallery, etc) are automatically added to that dropdown;
    3 – all WP pages are added automatically to the adminbar;
    4 – all added WP pages respect whatever page order is set in the WP-Dashboard.

    The code is here: http://pastebin.com/8FJmcgRF

    To ensure that unwanted pages DON’T show up in the adminbar navigation (password-protected, Thank You pages, etc), install the Exclude Pages plugin:
    https://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/exclude-pages/

    Thanks for the heads up about the plugin; it helps a lot! It’s like having an in-home tutor wagging his finger when I get ahead of myself.
    And sometimes it’s the most obvious that escapes me… The thing that completely screwed up the page was what you had noted above:

    <php
    /*
    Template Name: Custom Front Page
    */
    ?>

    Should read: <?php …

    Corrected that missing “?” and voilà… the page sorted itself out in IE.
    Now it’s a question of fixing a bunch CSS/XHTML “oopses” (mostly improperly formatted tags and such).

    Thanks again!

    Thanks for taking a hard look. Clearly, I need to learn more about what’s allowed and what’s not. I “borrowed” the code and css from another template in an attempt to widgetize my home page, but the evidence would suggest that I’d be better off knowing what I’m doing rather than diving in and hoping for the best ;-)

    Thanks again!

    Oh yeah, I agree about that toolbar thing… it’s gone.

    Just installed BP group css to play around with it and… oops!

    If “Link to an external CSS file” is not checked, sidebar disappears when on Group Custom CSS subnav page in any group.

    Fun stuff, but I’ll wait for the next release before installing ;-)

    @rustybroomhandle …kool nickname BTW!

    I also think looking first for child-theme/style.css (then _inc/css/default) would be the goof-proof way to go.

    And please, oh pretty please, add the features for profiles too :-)

    Take a look at Buddypress Group Forum Extras plugin. Among many other things, it pulls in the threaded activity comments tagged to a new_forum_post activity type and displays them underneath the associated forum posts.

    Really cool idea! I’m sure eventual users of my site (not launched yet) would appreciate being able to personalize their group/profile pages, if only via a color selector. Looking forward to testing.

    In Buddypress, you’ll find all the css stuff in yourtheme/style.css.
    Oh yeah, and use Firebug for Firefox to track down stuff you want to modify in your theme. It’s a real joy, that addon!

    Copy groups/single/group-header.php to your child theme. You can then edit it the way you want.

    :-)

    @tim-watt Here you go:

    In your theme’s /style.css, find line 1544 where you see this
    div.post .wp-caption {

    Go down to where you see the margin settings and change them to this:
    margin: 0 20px 20px 0;

    That should do it. If you’re running Firefox (and I really hope you are) install Firebug for Firefox. Finding stuff like this is a snap with that tool!
