Though, it’s working for me on a sub-blog BuddyPress is activated on.

I’m sure there are going to be theme designers that want the functionality you’re building.

One thing to note is have you checked your plugin with the BP Groupblog plugin?
Also what do you mean by “public profile version” of your plugin?

What you’re looking for specifically is this:
define ( 'BP_MEMBERS_SLUG', 'users' );

Change “users” to whatever you want.

You need to use a WPMU plugin like New Blog Defaults:

Put the PHP file (not the folder) in /wp-content/mu-plugins/

Haven’t tested compatibility with WP 3.0, but it should work.

Add this to your theme’s functions.php:

remove_action( 'admin_footer', 'bp_core_admin_bar' );

Edit your theme’s style.css.

And add the following:

Could be a javascript conflict with another plugin.

@AMJCraft – That’s to be expected. If it’s not a BP group forum post, the post will not be added to the activity stream, although if you’re using a deep integrated install of bbPress, it’s possible to add these non-BP posts to the stream.

Check out the friends_check_friendship() function in /bp-friends.php.

The parameters are:
friends_check_friendship( $user_id, $possible_friend_id )

And it returns true if the person is a friend.

Example:
