I believe “Create a group” is not in the BuddyBar menu.
Navigate to your groups directory (eg. example.com/groups), there should be a “Create a Group” button there.
How did you upgrade from WP 2.0.4 to WP 2.9.2?
Did you do incremental WP upgrades?
Are you using any other plugins on your test install?
In reply to: getting started – i need helpYou need to create a group to create a forum.
Try creating a group.
In reply to: How to solve the problem of alignment in practice?Did you read the instructions in step 3 of BP Template Pack?
You’ll have to add some CSS overrides or modify some BP templates.
If you can provide a link to your WooThemes site with BP enabled, we could perhaps troubleshoot this.
I’m closing this thread because it’s related to this one:

In reply to: 404’s BP components on subdirectory installDid you enable pretty permalinks?
Locking this as this is for BP 1.1 and older.
Blogadera, please create a new thread and we’ll discuss from there.
Cool, do let us know what CSS you added to make the default BP theme compatible with IE6.
In reply to: wordpress vs wordpress muMU doesn’t add tables for every user. It only adds tables for another blog.
Yes, that would work as well
Haha, true true, Modemlooper!
Maybe as a child theme then.

Did you configure the SMTP plugin correctly?
Here are some instructions:

The email bug on the BP site I was working would not send any BP email to a GMail account, but would send to all other email addresses. I thought it was semi-related to the issues you and ruthlessbookie were encountering.
3sixty, it might be good to document your IE6 journey and perhaps we can get your CSS included in core.
Suggestion for you, use the * html CSS hack to target IE6 specifically, then you wouldn’t need to use expressions, which isn’t valid CSS.
So your above code would look something like:
* html .post img {width:400px;}If I have some time, I’ll look at creating an IE6 CSS patch.
Login to the WPMU backend, navigate to “Appearance > Custom Header”.
In reply to: Header Background ImageAdd this to your CSS:
body {padding-top:25px !important;}In reply to: display username in members directoryNo need to edit a template file for this.
Try adding the following in your theme’s functions.php:
function my_member_username() {
global $members_template;
return $members_template->member->user_login;
}
add_filter('bp_member_name','my_member_username');I believe the BP default theme was not coded with IE6 in mind.
The problem is IE6 doesn’t support the position:fixed CSS attribute.
One way around this is to put this in your child theme’s CSS:
* html #wp-admin-bar {position:absolute;}Besides, no one likes IE 6
In reply to: Email notification not workingMy response was to Ann Christie.
Try manually installing BP. SimpleScripts isn’t the best way to install WP(MU)/BP.
Yes, make sure to backup your DB as well if you want to keep your content!
In reply to: Email notification not workingI ran into a similar issue recently on a BP site I was working on.
I used this plugin:
https://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/configure-smtp/
with a Google Apps email account.
In reply to: Header Background ImageYour style.css should look something like this:
/*
Theme Name: YOUR CHILD THEME
Description: My child theme.
Version: 1.0
Author: YOU
Template: bp-default
Tags: buddypress, two-columns
*/
/* import default BP style */
@import url( ../../plugins/buddypress/bp-themes/bp-default/style.css );
#header {background:url(YOUR IMAGE URL HERE) no-repeat;}Your child theme’s functions.php should look like this:
<?php
function my_remove_bp_actions() {
remove_action( 'init', 'bp_dtheme_add_custom_header_support' );
}
add_action( 'init', 'my_remove_bp_actions', 9 );
?>Make sure you activate your child theme in the WP admin area.
In reply to: How to add to the “My Account” section of the nav?Use:
<php if(is_user_logged_in()) : ?>YOUR LINK<?php endif; ?>In reply to: How to add to the “My Account” section of the nav?Unfortunately, there’s no hook in the “My Account” menu to add custom items so you’ll basically need to duplicate the bp_adminbar_account_menu() and add your changes, then remove the bp_adminbar_account_menu() function and add your custom function.
The following guide tells you how to do this:
https://codex.buddypress.org/how-to-guides/modifying-the-buddypress-admin-bar/
I think the above code is for a subdirectory MU install.
If you’re using a subdomain MU install, let me know and I’ll modify the above code.
In reply to: Header Background ImageHmm… I had to do something like this recently for a BP site using a child theme and I didn’t have to add the !important declaration.
This is what I did:
In your child theme’s functions.php, add the following:
function my_remove_bp_actions() {
remove_action( 'init', 'bp_dtheme_add_custom_header_support' );
}
add_action( 'init', 'my_remove_bp_actions', 9 );This removes the custom header support from the BP default theme.
Then in your child theme’s style.css, add:
#header {background:url(YOUR IMAGE URL HERE) no-repeat;}To redirect your old member URLs, try putting the following line in .htaccess:
RedirectMatch 301 ^/members/(.*)$ http://example.com/$1Change example.com to your site.
This goes right above the following line in .htaccess:
# add a trailing slash to /wp-admin
