Login to your WPMU admin area and navigate to “Site Admin > Options”.
There should be a header saying “Allow new registrations”.
This isn’t an “issue”.
Activity update permalinks, by default, are supposed to look like that.
The inspiration of this layout comes from Twitter’s status updates:
eg: http://twitter.com/buddypressdev/status/8201641709
You can always change the layout through themeing!
This isn’t the same.
This gives email notification to group activity stream updates.
Boone’s plugin and yours only does group forum email notifications.
In reply to: forums : Fatal error: Cannot redeclare checked()How did you install the BuddyPress group forums?
In reply to: [Groups] E-mail Notifications for new forum posts?Use Boone Gorges’ Group Forum Subscription plugin:
http://dev.commons.gc.cuny.edu/2009/12/07/group-forum-subscription-v1-4/
This will work on BP 1.1.3.
In reply to: bp 1.2 setup questionsDid you follow the BP upgrade instructions here?
https://buddypress.org/blog/news/buddypress-1-2-beta/
Also if you’re running object cache, disable or clear it before activating your new BP 1.2 theme.
In reply to: Starting real developmentHere’s a tutorial for setting up XAMPP and WordPress:
If you’re not planning on using member blogs, this tutorial should get you up and running with WordPress. Then all you need to do is install BuddyPress.
Did you disable new user registration?
In reply to: Hiding Buddypress from the View Source?You can google about escaping HTML, but keep in mind this will require Javascript.
You’ll also have to modify the header actions, which are added to BP. This means on upgrades, you’ll have to manually make sure you keep up with changes.
I wouldn’t recommend this myself.
In reply to: Starting real developmentUse XAMPP, The Uniform Server or some other type of WAMP (Windows Apache, MySQL and PHP) package.
That’s what I use to test locally.
Also, are there any estimates of when a stable release may come out?
I’d say a week or two. Nothing longer than that.
When you upgrade to BP 1.2, you can use the BP backwards compatibility plugin:
https://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/buddypress-backwards-compatibility/
That will probably be the easiest way to keep your template tags.
In reply to: Install Buddypress 1.2 BetaRead this blog post:
https://buddypress.org/blog/news/buddypress-1-2-beta/
Also what are these “errors” you speak of? Is it theme-related? Is it plugin-related?
Are you installing BP 1.2 beta on WPMU or standard WordPress?
In reply to: Install BP in a Sub-BlogI’ve edited the codex page for flow and structure – plus I added the second bullet point to the instructions.
Feel free to make revisions!
All wire messages and BP 1.1 status updates will be converted into BP 1.2 activity items.
Users and groups will remain as-is.
The only thing is if you’re dependent on BP 1.1.3 plugins, most of them won’t work off the bat until plugin developers have a chance to modify their code to 1.2 standards.
Also, if you’re using a highly-customized BP theme, you’ll have to adjust that as well.
In reply to: Install BP in a Sub-BlogYou can change this with a little .htaccess magic.
Say your Buddypress is setup in the following sub-blog – hxxp://example.com/community
Find where your wp-config.php file is located and in the same directory there should be a .htaccess file. Open it up in a text editor.
Above the line:
# add a trailing slash to /wp-adminAdd the following:
RedirectMatch 301 ^/members/(.*)$ http://example.com/community/members/$1
RedirectMatch 301 ^/groups/(.*)$ http://example.com/community/groups/$1
RedirectMatch 301 ^/blogs/(.*)$ http://example.com/community/blogs/$1
RedirectMatch 301 ^/forums/(.*)$ http://example.com/community/forums/$1This should correctly redirect your old BP links to the new ones.

In the example above, is there anyway I can use:
hxxp://example.com/register
Instead of:
hxxp://example.com/community/register
I don’t mind hacking a few core files to accomplish this. If not, I can always theme the registration / activate pages to match the WPMU root blog.
I’ve only spent a few minutes looking into this so far and I haven’t found a way.
In reply to: Achievement plugin pages redirect to home (BP 1.2)Achievements hasn’t been updated for BP 1.2 yet.
DJPaul, the author of the plugin, will update it when he’s ready.
In reply to: Installing BP 1.2 to WP 2.9.1 Invalid HeaderWhat happens when you try and activate the BuddyPress Default 1.2-beta theme?
I had an issue trying to activate the bp-default theme on my testbox last night.
What was the cause? Object cache!
If you have object cache enabled, delete your /wp-content/cache/ folder before attempting to activate the bp-default theme or child theme of bp-default.
In reply to: IMPORTANT — Plugin Devs – Read thisCool, thanks for the detailed explanation, Brajesh.
I want to keep compatibility with older versions of BP (for now anyway), so I’ll use plugins_loaded with a higher priority.
In reply to: IMPORTANT — Plugin Devs – Read thisWhat’s the difference between using bp_init() and plugins_loaded()?
I’ve been using plugins_loaded() on some developmental plugins.
In reply to: Install BP in a Sub-BlogI’m thinking about doing this.
Let’s say I have a root blog with a custom WP theme and I want to create a sub-blog with the slug “community”.
So can I assume I can activate another theme, like the BP default theme, on sub-blog “community”, and that the URLs to profiles / groups / etc would be:
– hxxp://example.com/community/members/profile/admin
– hxxp://example.com/community/groups
If I move some BP functions into the root blog, would the registration slug still be:
– hxxp://example.com/register
Or would it be hxxp://example.com/community/register ?
I guess there’s only one way to find out! Going to test it right now.

You’ve been warned though!
In reply to: Login re-directCreate a file called /wp-content/plugins/bp-custom.php and put the following code in there:
<?php
add_filter("login_redirect","bpdev_redirect_to_profile",10,3);
function bpdev_redirect_to_profile($redirect_to_calculated,$redirect_url_specified,$user)
{
if(empty($redirect_to_calculated))
$redirect_to_calculated=admin_url();
/*if the user is not site admin,redirect to his/her profile*/
if(!is_site_admin($user->user_login))
return bp_core_get_user_domain($user->ID );
else
return $redirect_to_calculated; /*if site admin or not logged in,do not do anything much*/
}
?>
