    @Russell:

    HOWEVER…

    I lose the forums function in BuddyPress groups

    Remember you also need the XMLRPC call in your bb-config.php as well for group forums.

    $bb->bb_xmlrpc_allow_user_switching = true;

    (goes right before ?> in bb-config.php)

    Do this again and make sure you have the XMLRPC line in bb-config.php

    Actually, I’m going to hold off MU 2.8.1 for awhile.

    The new widget API has totally changed making some widgets inoperable.

    Are BP’s widgets working in MU 2.8.1? Probably not, right?

    – Understanding how these 3 pages works in general. Do they belong to the bp-member or bp-home theme or both.

    They are styled in the bpmember theme, which is a BuddyPress theme.

    The bphome theme is a WordPress theme.

    – Figuring out how I create a copy of lets say the Member page, then give that page an entire new name/slug.

    Not sure about creating interior BP pages… I know certain BP plugins create their own slug and pages (eg. bpEvents, bpContents).

    But depending on what type of page you are planning on creating, I would just create a new page in WP and assign a WP page template that is setup almost identical to the bpmember component in question. This would be the easiest route if you want total control of the page.

    However, before you do, you might want to consult with a mod who has more experience with BP than I do! :)

    Link to John’s WPMU ticket regarding bbPress for reference (just if some want to refer to it):

    https://trac.mu.wordpress.org/ticket/1032

    I’m going to try upgrading to WPMU 2.8.1 on my testbox and see what happens as well.

    FYI, I’ve been using JJJ’s method since day one!

    You know, John, I wasn’t even thinking about the Back to the Future reference when I typed it ;)

    I think your patch made the cut, as I don’t see it in the active tickets in the MU trac.

    Great scott! Just when I thought all the craziness of bbPress was done!

    Hey amweiss,

    If you can’t wait for Jeff’s component, there is another one out in the wild by Sandra Petronic:

    Hope that helps!

    Hey cozzie,

    For bbPress meta keywords / description, I use a modified version of a bbPress plugin called SEO Tools:

    Oh, and be sure to set the topic to “resolved” if your question has been answered.

    No, the deep integration lines shouldn’t be deleted as stated in the readme.txt.

    That needs to be changed… John? ;)

    Using a URL in the include_once doesn’t work, period.

    Using a URL in the include_once does not give you deep integration.

    Deactivate the BuddyBar in the bbPress admin area.

    Remove all lines you put in bb-config.php.

    Let’s start again… fresh!

    —

    First thing you want to do is deep integration between WPMU and bbPress, then you enable the plugin in bbPress.

    Put the following in bb-config.php:

    It should be something similar to this:

    <php
    if ( !defined( 'ABSPATH' ) & !defined( 'XMLRPC_REQUEST' )) {
    define( 'WP_USE_THEMES', false );
    include_once( 'YOURABSPATH_HERE/wp-blog-header.php' );
    header( "HTTP/1.1 200 OK" );
    header( "Status: 200 All rosy" );
    }
    the rest of bb-config here...

    For YOURABSPATH_HERE… either use the path that John’s “abs.php” spits out or use

    include_once($_SERVER['DOCUMENT_ROOT'].'/wp-blog-header.php');

    Save bb-config.php.

    Head on over to your bbPress forums.

    Do you get any errors?

    If everything is good, go to your bbPress admin area and enable the Buddybar plugin.

    What happens?

    Using an actual website address is different than using the $_SERVER[‘document_root’].

    Next step is to use John’s utility “abs.php” file:

    http://svn.wp-plugins.org/buddybar-in-bbpress/trunk/

    Download the “abs.php” file, upload it to your sever and go to the URL:

    eg. ht*p://example.com/abs.php

    It should output the correct directory path that you can put in the include_once line.

    @Russell

    Use the official instructions from the readme.txt.

    http://svn.wp-plugins.org/buddybar-in-bbpress/trunk/readme.txt

    Swap out the include_once line for this:

    include_once($_SERVER['DOCUMENT_ROOT'].'/wp-blog-header.php');

    In most cases that will work, but let us know what happens!

    @r-a-y

    Keymaster

    Add a class or ID to the body that will detect the action or component.

    That’s what I’ve done.

    then I do in CSS:

    body.groups #left-column {BEGIN OVERRIDE CSS HERE}

    I know of a few people working on a full-on tutorial for fresh installs for the entire package (BP 1.0.2, bbPress 1.0.1, WPMU 2.71).

    TheEasyButton was working furiously on a walkthrough. John also stated he was working on one.

    Patience! Something will pop up soon!

    @krugazul

    If you’re using different functions for your menu bar (like your invite friends link), you need to add them in the BuddyBar plugin (manually with your favorite text editor!).

    @ipstenu

    Yes, pound that logo with some CSS!

    @Russell,

    What other plugins are you using on the WP side?

    Did you read mtthijsv’s fix?

    Yep… definitely need some type of anti-spam filter, in addition to Jeff’s upcoming privacy component.

    This could be a little silly and not even note-worthy but try adding spaces between your equals signs:

    <?php if ( ($localPhone == "Manchester") || ($localPhone == "Test Group") ) {

    The other thing you could do is try just one condition:

    <?php if ( $localPhone == "Manchester") {

    and see what happens.

    @r-a-y

    Keymaster

    What happens when you try to echo $localPhone?

    @r-a-y

    Keymaster

    <?php $localPhone = bp_get_the_site_group_name() ?>;

    Remove the semi-colon from the end and that will get rid of the echo problem.

    I assume you meant:

    <?php $localPhone = bp_get_the_site_group_name(); ?>

    The if statement should be:

    <?php if ( ($localPhone=="Manchester") || ($localPhone=="Test Group") ) {

    @r-a-y

    Try it and report back!

    Can you post your full <ul id=”header”>?

    I have a feeling something is messing up there.

    —

    Actually you know what?

    Use the default header from the original bpmember theme… and see if you get any weird bugs.

    <ul id="header">
    <li<?php if ( bp_is_page( 'home' ) ) {?> class="selected"<?php } ?>><a href="<?php echo get_option('home') ?>" title="<?php _e( 'Home', 'buddypress' ) ?>"><?php _e( 'Home', 'buddypress' ) ?></a></li>
    <li<?php if ( bp_is_page( BP_HOME_BLOG_SLUG ) ) {?> class="selected"<?php } ?>><a href="<?php bp_home_blog_url() ?>" title="<?php _e( 'Blog', 'buddypress' ) ?>"><?php _e( 'Blog', 'buddypress' ) ?></a></li>
    <li<?php if ( bp_is_page( BP_MEMBERS_SLUG ) ) {?> class="selected"<?php } ?>><a href="<?php echo get_option('home') ?>/<?php echo BP_MEMBERS_SLUG ?>" title="<?php _e( 'Members', 'buddypress' ) ?>"><?php _e( 'Members', 'buddypress' ) ?></a></li>

    <?php if ( function_exists( 'groups_install' ) ) { ?>
    <li<?php if ( bp_is_page( BP_GROUPS_SLUG ) ) {?> class="selected"<?php } ?>><a href="<?php echo get_option('home') ?>/<?php echo BP_GROUPS_SLUG ?>" title="<?php _e( 'Groups', 'buddypress' ) ?>"><?php _e( 'Groups', 'buddypress' ) ?></a></li>
    <?php } ?>

    <?php if ( function_exists( 'bp_blogs_install' ) ) { ?>
    <li<?php if ( bp_is_page( BP_BLOGS_SLUG ) ) {?> class="selected"<?php } ?>><a href="<?php echo get_option('home') ?>/<?php echo BP_BLOGS_SLUG ?>" title="<?php _e( 'Blogs', 'buddypress' ) ?>"><?php _e( 'Blogs', 'buddypress' ) ?></a></li>
    <?php } ?>

    <?php do_action( 'bp_nav_items' ); ?>
    </ul>

    @r-a-y

    Keymaster

    I haven’t had time to dive into the logic, but it looks quite sound.

    What happens when you echo $localNetwork?

    Try bp_get_the_site_group_name() instead of bp_the_site_group_name().

    When I have some more time, I might give it another shot.

    Hopefully someone else can help you out by then!

    I’d also recommend getting acquainted with the bp-groups/bp-groups-templatetags.php.

    It’s your bible to BP Groups! :)

    @r-a-y

    Keymaster

    Try this:

    <li<?php if ( is_page('games') ) {?> class="selected"<?php } ?>><a href="<?php echo get_option('home') ?>/games" title="Games">Games</a></li>

    I removed bp_is_page() and replaced it with is_page(), since bp_is_page() is only specific to BP components.

    Also I removed the _e and echo references to “Games”. Chances are you won’t be using a translation patch editor.
