In reply to: Buddy press stopped working on my site
Rule of thumb: disable all BuddyPress 3rd-party plugins and reactivate them one by one until you figure out the culprit.
In reply to: Posting New Forum Topic From Group Front PageYou probably want to make the forums page the default group tab. That way you can do what you want.
Andrew has posted some code for BP 1.5:
https://buddypress.org/community/groups/how-to-and-troubleshooting/forum/topic/changing-group-tab-display-defaults/?topic_page=3&num=15#post-109704Give it a shot!
In reply to: Recent Posts Loop for Profiles.First, if you want to customize the BuddyPress Default theme, please build a child theme so your customizations won’t be wiped out when you upgrade BuddyPress:
https://codex.buddypress.org/theme-development/building-a-buddypress-child-theme/Secondly, once you’ve created your child theme, copy over /plugins/buddypress/bp-themes/bp-default/members/single/home.php to your theme’s folder.
Make sure you preserve the folder structure:
/wp-content/themes/MYCHILDTHEME/members/single/home.phpThen, you can add a regular posts loop from WordPress in your /members/single/home.php:
https://codex.wordpress.org/Function_Reference/query_postsYou’d need to get rid of `bp_get_displayed_user_nav()` and `bp_get_options_nav()` from your BP templates specifically in the /members/single/ folder of your theme.
In reply to: Blog AvatarBuddyPress is a volunteer project; other than the lead developer who has a portion of his time dedicated to developing and managing BuddyPress, no one else is paid to code it. The project heavily relies on the contributions of others.
That being said, it is not too hard to code a blog avatars plugin for BuddyPress, someone just needs to find the time out of their schedule to code it. Be it for a client or for free.
In reply to: Buddypress default.Just the delete the paragraph line:
`
<?php printf( __( 'Proudly powered by WordPress and BuddyPress.’, ‘buddypress’ ), ‘http://wordpress.org’, ‘http://buddypress.org' ) ?>
`
In reply to: Embedding YouTube videos on profile field. You have to wait for the new version of the plugin. I’m a little behind on my plugin updating; you’ll have to wait a week or so.
In reply to: BP_USE_WP_ADMIN_BAR does not workI think I just experienced this bug myself.
I need someone to duplicate though.
Does it show up after you login?
Go to http://www.example.com/wp-login.php. Login and go to the main site. Does it show up now?In reply to: Gravatar not displaying after upgrade to 1.5There shouldn’t be an issue with gravatars on BP 1.5.
Give it a shot on the BP test site – http://testbp.org
Did you enable gravatar support on your specific WP install?
https://codex.wordpress.org/Settings_Discussion_Screen (scroll down to the “Avatars” section)In reply to: BP and Multisite questions pre-installTry this tutorial:
https://codex.buddypress.org/getting-started/install-buddypress-on-a-secondary-blog/Please test on a dev environment first!
Just so you’re aware, there are a few 1.5 bugs that have popped up regarding multisite installs:
https://buddypress.trac.wordpress.org/ticket/3602In reply to: how to find my support postsA ticket is already filed for this:
https://buddypress.trac.wordpress.org/ticket/3604#comment:2A dev just needs to get to it when they have the time. Just got to twiddle those thumbs for now!
In reply to: My “Settings” page disappeared? In reply to: Activity Embeds Too Wide (BP 1.5)There are two ways to resize the width:
1) Set the “maximum embed size” in the WP Media Settings Subpanel
2) Set the $content_width variable in your theme’s functions.php
`if ( ! isset( $content_width ) ) {
// Change 640 to whatever the width of your column is
$content_width = 640;
}`To backup manually, make a backup of your DB:
https://codex.wordpress.org/Backing_Up_Your_DatabaseAnd your entire files inside /wp-content/.
There are also plugins that help do this:
https://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/tags/backupIn reply to: Double Posting on Activity PageTo debug, try disabling any custom code snippets or plugins that interfere with the activity stream.
In BP 1.5, you need these pages.
However, you can easily exclude pages from the main nav with a plugin like:
https://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/exclude-pages/—
To customize the BuddyBar, unfortunately you’ll need to get your hands dirty with code:
https://codex.buddypress.org/theme-development/modifying-the-buddypress-admin-bar/The code for widgets can be found in:
/plugins/buddypress/bp-core/bp-core-widgets.phpYou’ll need to extrapolate some of that code when building your custom entries in the BuddyBar.
Hope this is a good enough starting point!
In reply to: (RESOLVED) BP 1.5 User profile settings brokenBuddyPress doesn’t come with a login widget; looks like someone coded a custom login widget for you.
They need to replace the code contained within the
<h4>withbp_loggedin_user_link().In reply to: Activity stream showing my posts as being very oldWhat version of BuddyPress are you using?
Have you tried changing the timezone settings in WordPress?
https://codex.wordpress.org/Settings_General_ScreenIf you change your timezone settings, try posting a new blog post and see if the time is fixed in the stream.
In reply to: don’t show non-friends actions in activity streamOn the main activity page when you’re logged in, there should be a tab called “My Friends”.
Click on this tab to view only your friends’ activity updates.
You can see this in action here:
http://testbp.org/activity/ (make sure you have an account though!)Connor – glad that worked!
modemlooper – Ha! :p
Are you sure you’re not using any other plugins that rely on javascript?
WP_PLUGINS_DIR should be renamed to WP_PLUGIN_DIR.
Not sure how an extra ‘S’ was added, but please remove the ‘S’ and see what happens.
In reply to: “My topics” link in support does not workThanks for the report.
I’ve filed a ticket about this:
https://buddypress.trac.wordpress.org/ticket/3604#comment:2In reply to: importing users from 1.2.10 to 1.5Users are the same even when you upgrade from 1.2.x to 1.5.
If you’re talking about an import users option for BuddyPress (not WordPress), that’s different. A plugin like that could be developed, but as far as I know, nothing freely exists at the moment. I could be wrong though.
