In reply to: How Do I activate forums
Do not use existing installation if you do not have a standalone bbPress install.
Go to “Forums Setup”, then click on the reinstall link.
Next, click on “Set up a new bbPress installation” and follow the steps to complete forum setup.In reply to: Can’t get the language file to work!If you’re using BP 1.2.7, simply put your buddypress language files in:
/wp-content/languages/Make sure your language files are named like:
`buddypress-vi.po
buddypress-vi.mo
`
If you’re using an older version of BP, read step 3 of this guide:
https://codex.buddypress.org/extending-buddypress/customizing-labels-messages-and-urls/In reply to: How to make Group(s) sticky?A workaround is you could create your own groups loop and place it before the group directory loop in the group directory template:
https://codex.buddypress.org/developer-docs/custom-buddypress-loops/the-groups-loop/If you know you’re not going to have to change these groups, you could just hardcode the group info with HTML directly into the template.
This saves having to create another group loop.In reply to: Homepage issue, help pleaseTo remove the default tabs, you’ll need to modify the theme.
Read this page:
https://codex.buddypress.org/theme-development/building-a-buddypress-child-theme/Then, once you’ve got the hang of that. Copy over /bp-themes/bp-default/header.php to your new child theme and modify the tab structure.
The function you’ll want is:
`is_user_logged_in()`Wrap a is_user_logged_in() conditional around the tabs you want to show only for logged in users.
Something like this:
`
<li class=”selected”>
<a href="//” title=””><li class=”selected”>
<a href="//” title=””><li class=”selected”>
<a href="//” title=””><li class=”selected”>
<a href="//” title=””><li class=”selected”>
<a href="//” title=””>`
Note that if someone knows the URLs to those tabs, they’ll still be able to access them.
You might want to look into some BP private plugins like:

https://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/private-buddypress/In reply to: Move registration form to home pageThey have an abbreviated registration form on the homepage that only shows the username field, then it redirects to the registration page.

In reply to: Why using pages for BP sections is a bad ideaMrMaz, the term you’re looking for is “theme framework”. Like Justin Tadlock’s Hybrid or Ian Stewart’s Thematic.
Your argument is similar to Justin’s blog post on why advanced parent themes are not frameworks:
In reply to: Buddy press installationSounds like you’re using an older version of WordPress.
Deactivate BuddyPress and upgrade WordPress:
https://codex.wordpress.org/Upgrading_WordPress_ExtendedIn reply to: Important Buddypress Function not workingThis is because the BP Template Pack plugin needs to be updated, particularly the JS variables.
Read this for a temporary solution:

https://trac.buddypress.org/ticket/2779In reply to: Persistent Caching and Private MessagingNo need to hack BP.
Put the following in your theme’s functions.php:
`
function ray_bp_get_send_public_message_link() {
global $bp;return wp_nonce_url( $bp->loggedin_user->domain . $bp->activity->slug . ‘/?r=’ . $bp->displayed_user->userdata->user_login );
}
add_filter( ‘bp_get_send_public_message_link’, ‘ray_bp_get_send_public_message_link’ );function ray_bp_get_send_private_message_link() {
global $bp;return wp_nonce_url( $bp->loggedin_user->domain . $bp->messages->slug . ‘/compose/?r=’ . $bp->displayed_user->userdata->user_login );
}
add_filter( ‘bp_get_send_private_message_link’, ‘ray_bp_get_send_private_message_link’ );`I believe this is fixed in trunk.

In reply to: bbpress plugins – is it possible ?Just to give a quick summary:
– current standalone bbPress plugins are possible to use with BuddyPress, but they need to be ported over to WordPress/BuddyPress. Check out Rich’s BP Forum Extras plugin, which combines a few of them:
https://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/buddypress-group-forum-extras/– forum editor tutorial:
http://etivite.com/groups/buddypress/forum/topic/quick-tip-adding-markitup-to-group-forum-textareas/or:
https://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/bp-tinymce/– lastly, like Paul mentioned, bbPress is getting a major rewrite from an external script to a WordPress plugin. This will directly impact BuddyPress in version 1.3/1.4. Don’t worry too much about it now. Just use the BuddyPress’ forum setup as-is. Everything will sort itself out!
Yeah, I’ve seen this issue before.
Revert your hacks and try this fix:

I’ve posted a patch for issue on the BP Trac:

`In reply to: Help with Messaging and @mentions@stoi2m1 – Did you view the link I posted above? The info on the page tells you to use the “Mail From” plugin:
https://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/mail-from/Try that and see if emails are sent out.
In reply to: Memcached is breaking private messagingCheck out:

https://trac.buddypress.org/ticket/2636You can temporarily fix private messaging by overriding the username filter. See #2583 for hints.
In reply to: Where did user interactions go?No problem! So does that mean you fixed your problem?

Can you try activating the BuddyPress Default theme to see if these problems go away?
Re: #4 – I just signed up for your site and it did not redirect me to the control panel after logging in.
I’ve experienced a bit of success with AVH First Defense Against Spam:
https://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/avh-first-defense-against-spam/Checks the user’s IP against StopForumSpam and Project Honeypot (with an API key) before parsing the entire page.
This won’t stop human spammers but every little bit helps.In reply to: Ban and Kick User is BrokenNo need to bump the topic multiple times.
If you are not sure how to patch and you feel a little adventurous, make the changes manually:
https://trac.buddypress.org/attachment/ticket/2661/2661.002.patchIf you have access to edit plugins, login to your WP dashboard and navigate to “Plugins > Editor” and select BuddyPress in the dropdown menu located near the top right corner, then edit the files mentioned in the patch.
Otherwise, open up your FTP program and make the edits mentioned in the patch.
**Be sure to make a backup of the files you are attempting to edit before you make any changes**

In reply to: Member Blogs localizationCan you specify which pages the string shows up on?
In reply to: Help with Messaging and @mentions@mentions- currently do not show up in your notifications menu; I believe this might be included in BP 1.3 due early next year.
