@ipstenu – Take the code I posted and then you’ll also need to apply a filter so BP doesn’t create its own excerpt.
This can be done with:
http://pastebin.com/adaQBSTzUntested, give it a shot and report back.
In reply to: Group Activity Feed@amahesh –
In your theme’s functions.php, make sure your code looks something like this:
http://pastebin.com/Pn1jFXG5Read the comments in the code.
Then In your duplicate of bp-activity-group-feed.php, you need to change:
if ( bp_has_activities( 'object=' . $bp->groups->id . '&primary_id=' . $bp->groups->current_group->id . '&max=50&display_comments=threaded' ) ) :to
if ( bp_has_activities( 'object=' . $bp->groups->id . '&primary_id=' . $bp->groups->current_group->id . '&secondary_item_id=' . $bp->groups->current_group->creator_id . 'max=50&display_comments=threaded' ) ) :This will filter the group activity feed so only updates from the creator of the group will be listed. If you have multiple admins, you’ll have to find a way to append their IDs (comma-delimited) to the end of the “secondary_item_id” parameter.
In reply to: Group avatar in activity stream@antonrsa – You copied the lines wrong:
http://pastebin.com/8hebkE9sAnyway like Rich said, JJJ has added secondary avatars to the latest BP 1.2 branch.
Check out testbp.org to see what this looks like:
http://testbp.org/groups/buddypress-testers-614548248/In reply to: Custom WordPress theme to work to BuddyPress HELP!Not sure what you mean. I’m guessing the layout is messed up on your BuddyPress pages.
Like I eluded to earlier, you’ll have to modify the BuddyPress templates in your theme to make it look the same as the rest of your site.Step 3 in BP Template Pack should have outlined these steps. If you have no experience working with themes, you might find this a little daunting.
In reply to: Having Disqus for comments in a BuddyPress forumCould be possible.
But you’d have to limit the forum thread to one post so you could take advantage of the Disqus system.Unless you’re thinking of using Disqus in a different manner, bhaveshnayi and Alexander?
In reply to: Custom WordPress theme to work to BuddyPress HELP!You can try the BP Template Pack plugin combined with your WordPress theme:
https://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/bp-template-pack/Most likely, some tweaking will need to be made to the BuddyPress templates that get imported into your theme once you use the plugin.
In reply to: How to create a landing page on BP?Creating a landing page in BuddyPress is no different than creating a landing page in WordPress.
Like Modemlooper said, what do you mean exactly?
In reply to: Undo theme upgrade for BuddyPress?Hi Shaigan,
You have to be specific. What theme upgrade patch did you try?
I’m guessing you mean that you upgraded BuddyPress via the admin dashboard and your theme got deleted.
If you installed your theme @ /wp-content/plugins/buddypress/bp-themes/, then your theme would have been wiped out.
The correct place to put your custom theme is @ /wp-content/themes/.If you did not backup your filesystem before the upgrade, then your theme is lost.
In reply to: Date shown in Default BP themeTry editing /single.php and /page.php in your child theme.
Edit the_time()’s parameters to add the date:

In reply to: Adding menu items to the admin barI haven’t checked the rest of pcwriter’s code, I only checked the $current_blog variable.
In reply to: Adding menu items to the admin barGlobal should be called inside the function you’re creating.
I’ve fixed up the code:
http://pastebin.com/019kCG2qIn reply to: Adding menu items to the admin barYou need to call the global before you can use it.
global $current_blog;The blog id is $current_blog->blog_id
$current_blog is a multi-site only variable though. I haven’t read the whole thread so I’m not sure what you guys are trying to do
In reply to: Adding menu items to the admin bar@hnla – The $current_blog global is what you’re looking for.
In reply to: Allow Group Admin to Post UpdatesYou’d have to filter the AJAX query string.
Here’s a good thread to get acquainted with it:
https://buddypress.org/community/groups/how-to-and-troubleshooting/forum/topic/how-can-i-set-show-newblogposts-as-default-on-acitivity-stream/In reply to: Group Activity FeedI’d remove the group feed function so I could create my own group feed loop.
What you’d want to do is remove the existing one by adding this to your theme’s functions.php:
remove_action( 'wp', 'groups_action_group_feed', 3 );Then I’d basically duplicate the groups_action_group_feed() function (located in /buddypress/bp-groups.php), rename the function, throw it in my theme’s functions.php file and change the pointer of the following file:
bp-activity/feeds/bp-activity-group-feed.php
to a custom file I would also create in my theme’s directory.
Lastly, I would open up this duplicate of bp-activity-group-feed.php and modify the activity loop so it shows updates only from the group admin.
In reply to: WP-minify and new version of BuddypressI believe Andy was working on a plugin for caching avatars to a CDN.
It’s being tested on testbp.org right now. Not sure if it’s going to be released any time soon.Re: bug – check your activity for duplicate registration from the same user. Also you can login to your WP dashboard and see if any duplicate users were created. I should note that this bug occurred on a WPMU 2.9.2 install and could also have been the result of a plugin conflict.
Might work on WP 3.0. Also try the newest release of W3 Total Cache to see if this bug is fixed.
In reply to: Group avatar in activity streamThat’s correct.
@nit3watch – No, I didn’t try it. I fixed your gcard_group_card() function previously.
After looking at your code again, it looks like you’re never calling that function so nothing is displayed.
You need to add the gcard_group_card() function somewhere in the gcard_show_card_in_header() function. Probably after the header.
@nit3watch – You’re not declaring the functions properly:
http://pastebin.com/UhRC77TLTo remove FB avatars from the FB plugin, add the following to your theme’s functions.php:
remove_filter( 'bp_core_fetch_avatar', 'jfb_get_facebook_avatar', 10, 4 );To have an option between either the BP avatar and the FB avatar, some custom code would be needed to display an admin option in the user’s settings page.
In reply to: Exclude members from the Members Loop?Right now, there is no “exclude” parameter in bp_has_members().
However you could filter certain members out with a little hackery. In the members loop, do a conditional to check the member’s username against something. If it matches, skip it.
eg.
if ( bp_get_member_user_login() == 'USERNAME_TO_CHECK' ) continue;This would go right after bp_the_member() in the loop.
There is probably a better way, but for now try that.
Very, very hard. I’m not sure if it is even possible.
In reply to: Where is the bbpress forum? In BuddyPress, forums reside in groups, so you need to create a group first and enable the discussion forum that way
If you think of how Facebook structures forums in fan pages, then you’ll have a better understanding of how bbPress works in BP:
https://codex.buddypress.org/getting-started/faqs/#forumAs always, you can test out how this functions on the BP test site:
http://testbp.orgIf you’re looking simply for a traditional forum script, I would recommend something else altogether as BuddyPress does not offer a global admin interface to manage topics and posts for one thing.
If you’re interested in a forum component in BuddyPress that has an admin interface and other regular bbPress functionality, Brajesh Singh has created such a plugin (though it is a premium, paid one). I should also say I haven’t tested this plugin myself.
In reply to: how upgrade an old bp theme, please? If you relied a lot on the BP 1.0 or 1.1 theme structure, then you’d need to install the BP Backwards Compatibility plugin:
https://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/buddypress-backwards-compatibility/I should note I have no experience using this plugin whatsoever.
hnla is right; if your theme isn’t too custom, I would recommend building a new child theme of the bp-default.
