In reply to: BBpress setup through buddypress plugin?
Read this again:
https://buddypress.org/community/groups/how-to-and-troubleshooting/forum/topic/bbpress-setup-through-buddypress-plugin/?topic_page=2&num=15#post-51853You can’t create sub-forums for a group natively in BP. It’s potentially possible to create a plugin to create sub-forums for each group, but such a plugin doesn’t exist right now.
If you need sub-forums, stick with the external install of bbPress.
In reply to: Private Message Spam and AbuseTry this until a more, full-featured privacy component is available.
Remove send private message button for non-friends:
http://blog.etiviti.com/2010/03/buddypress-hack-remove-send-private-message-for-non-friends/In reply to: BBpress setup through buddypress plugin?Again, this isn’t very clear.
Please outline your steps.Let’s say your external bbPress install is located under /bbpress/.
Your custom template would reside in /bbpress/my-templates/YOURNEWTHEME/.In this case, you’d want to put “bbbp-default” under /bbpress/my-templates/.
Then you go to /bbpress/bb-admin/ and activate the bbPress theme. It’d also help to read the theme’s instructions. According to the theme author, you also need to add deep integration.
What is deep integration? Read the following article and read the section on deep integration:
http://wpwebhost.com/make-bbpress-theme-match-with-wordpress-by-deep-integration/2) global $bp; echo $bp->loggedin_user->id; OR is_user_logged_in()
3) Use my preferred method, dive into the code yourself! bp_has_members is available in /bp-core/bp-core-templatetags.php
In reply to: Sidebar Widgets@quirhijn – Read this guide on how to create a child theme:
https://codex.buddypress.org/how-to-guides/building-a-buddypress-child-theme/Using a child theme allows you to make changes to the default theme without fear of losing them when you upgrade BuddyPress.
You don’t need programming knowledge in order to set one up either!
In reply to: Adding Users from Another ApplicationHave you double checked that you’re linking to the correct file path for wp-blog-header.php?
In reply to: Extending Groups NavigationYou need to attach a screen function to your admin page.
Check out the skeleton component plugin for more details:

In reply to: Teach Brendan How to Drive Buddypress!WPMU is only needed if you want individual user blogs à la wordpress.com.
If you don’t need this functionality, get standard WP.
In reply to: BBpress setup through buddypress plugin?By default, BP group forums can be accessed at:
hxxp://example.com/forums/If your external bbPress is also installed in /forums/, you’ll want to rename BP’s forums slug to something else.
You can do this by adding the following in your wp-config.php or bp-custom.php:
define( ‘BP_FORUMS_SLUG’, ‘group-forums’ );In the example above, your BP forums can now be accessed at hxxp://example.com/group-forums/

If you’re looking at theming your external bbPress install to match BuddyPress’ default theme, use the bbPress theme I mentioned above:
https://bbpress.org/forums/topic/buddypress-default-theme-for-bbpress-1In reply to: Downloading and installing BuddyPress@bhalun – BuddyPress doesn’t use an .exe file. If you used the manual download, simply extract the “buddypress” folder from the .ZIP file to your web server’s /wp-content/plugins/ folder.
Then login to the WP backend and click on “Plugins”, BuddyPress should show up. Simply click on “Activate”.
In reply to: REQUEST: Buddypress Profile BadgesThe plugin is BuddyPress Badge:
https://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/buddypress-badge/In reply to: BBpress setup through buddypress plugin?Does the groups mean users, or disscusions? I want to set this up right, and kinda want it like i had stuff setup when i was using phpbb, where it was based on permissions, and roles, and you had certain, categories and subforums…..
Permissions are automatically assigned. Group admins / mods can edit forum posts. Group members can’t.
You cannot setup sub-forums and categories with BuddyPress’ internal forums. Think Facebook’s group and page forums.
—
also, how would i create themes for both? or where could i get themes for both that look similiar?
You cannot change the theme for BuddyPress’ internal forums. BuddyPress will use the BP theme you’re using to style your forums. However, if you want to style the forums differently, you’ll have to edit your BP theme. Try creating a child theme of the default and modifying the /forums/ and /groups/single/forum/ templates to your liking.
If you’re talking about a theme for the external version of bbPress, try this:
https://bbpress.org/forums/topic/buddypress-default-theme-for-bbpress-1It’s the whole Twitter / Facebook hybrid. Trying to emulate too many features from popular, existing social networks.
The main UI problem is groups. BP tried to copy how Facebook setup forums. But then, in v1.2, BP added Twitter-like activity streams.
For groups, you can either go one way – embrace the activity stream or embrace the forums. It’s not the best thing to try and have it both ways. But this is a decision the BP admin should make (which it is right now). At the end of the day, BP gives you free reign to customize your community all you want.
@modemlooper has got the right idea (although I don’t agree with the usage of the word “fork”). Trim down the features you don’t want by customization.
In reply to: buddypress.orgThis theme will probably not be made publically available.
In reply to: BBpress setup through buddypress plugin?will that bring my topics over when i go to import it through buddypress?
No it won’t.
The integration guide above has nothing to do with BuddyPress. It allows you to integrate WordPress with an external install of bbPress (users, single sign-on).
If you want to integrate your external bbPress install with BuddyPress. Login to the WP backend, under “BuddyPress > Forum Setup”, choose existing install.
Then, you’d have to create a group and enable a forum for that group. Next, you’d have to manually bring in those topics via PHPMyAdmin.Read the beginning and end of this post for more details:

i kinda want it working like this site does, i want to integrate my external bbpress into my wp blog, and make them work together
This site doesn’t use an external bbPress install anymore.
—
If i have to convert to wpmu, i will, if that’s the only way to get this working, and have all my categories/sub-forums, integrated into wp, through bp…..
Like I said above, it doesn’t make a difference what version of WordPress you are using.
In reply to: License to sell themes? What Paul said! Yes.
In reply to: individual/user BLOGSSorry for recommending Quickpress, it works only with WPMU. Try one of the other plugins I listed above.
If you want each user to have their own seperate blog, then yes, you’ll have to use WPMU or you can wait until WP 3.0 is released.
In reply to: BBpress setup through buddypress plugin?Use this guide to integrate an external install of bbPress with WordPress:

WP with external bbPress?
In reply to: individual/user BLOGS@holgria – Try reading each plugin’s documentation or their corresponding support forum to find out more.
eg. Posthaste FAQ – https://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/posthaste/faq/You might have to change the user role to “Author” in order for those plugins to work.
“Bumping a post” means replying to your own post in an attempt to get a response.
In reply to: Buddypress Crash after disabling BP Components? It’s because you’re probably using some other BuddyPress plugins that have not made their plugins BP-aware, you have to disable those as well when disabling BuddyPress.
In reply to: individual/user BLOGSThat means you’re using standard WordPress. So you won’t see a link to blogs.
If you set up your new users with the role of “contributor” or higher, they can post.
Login to the WP backend and navigate to “Settings > General” and select “Contributor”.Then download a plugin like:
Posthaste:
https://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/posthaste/or Quick Post Widget:
https://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/quick-post-widget/Also please refrain from bumping your own post every hour. Bumping your thread every 24 hours is enough.
