@henrywright Thanks for the link. In any case what I understood Calypso is for Admin backend of WP – so its not very relevant for BP.

There is no free media solution that will work seamlessly across WP Multisite and Buddypress, that is comparable to at least some degree to scripts like Elgg or Easysocial for Joomla … Rtmedia paid version is little better but using and uploading media has become so intuitive and easy (along with site super admins options eg how much to allow to upload in one go) that standard cms-es like WordPress, Buddypress, Joomla, Drupal are lacking far behind : for example see Whatsapp – how easily you can add picture from you phone cam or webcam in your gallery ( for Buddypress, Elgg etc you can do this for profile photo only) – such capacities are totally absent in social scripts like BP (WordPress or WP Multisite without BP is somewhat better if used with Jetpack).

We will never catch-up – you will never catch up unless you have deep pockets. WP+BP rest on its laurels and its sad how FB monopoly is destroying the fabric of inter-connectivity of internet.

Mediapress is not a user-friendly solution if you have to quickly or in a moderate time, deploy a social net site.

    @buddyboss

but the tab to see all of their Likes is only available to them for privacy reasons.

In BP-buddyboss river, everyone can see what I have liked – so it is not private. Default BP does allow to see other users’ Favorits in the Favorit tab in Profile page – why does Buddyboss kills this? At least site admin should be able to turn it on or off.

Wall does not have every FB feature,

buddypress-activity-plus allows to post link, video etc quite nicely and is thus more user-friendly than the premium Wall plugin, imho. There is also a plugin by Brajesh that allow front-end blog posting via BP

Buddyboss is never meant to load every plugin but if a chosen few are bundled, it will be really good rather than re-inventing wheels at premium plugins, features of which are already available in the WP-BP repo. If users like us see thay they are well integrated into the Buddyboss look and feel there can be more sales of the Buddyboss theme actually.

We may make a spam solution at some point in time. This is a tricky one. Every solution you make only works for a bit, then the spammers figure out your tactic and update

Let wp com users at least post to pre-sales and/or free discussion forum. You can do this via jetpack

JJ, finding your site enough fast and smooth; maybe I am in a different time-zone. I clicked through many pages and profiles – no problem.

[BTW, this is off-topic – if you must keep social buttons please also add G+, internet is not just FBook 🙂 ]

There is no such migration tool. BTW what are the reasons for migration?
If you do not have too many users it may be best to ask your users to reregister for a “new” and better version of your site (which will be BP under the hood)

Prince Abiola Ogundipe and shanebp – thanks for the helpful replies.
Shanebp – I was not aware of the site, probably because you/they do not have much plugins in the public domain/wp/bp plugin repo.

Buddyblock seems to have features that ought to be in any core of any social net script. Thanks.

Browser is the best app one can have. We need to promote fantastic mobile browsers as the best app. The new BP ajax updates the activity stream. With mobile / responsive theme BP is ready for the mobile on a mobile browser – that way no user has to dowload yet yet yet another app.

Well I still cannot find any email in my inbox.
If its kleo theme, and if its possible for you can you please tell if this is working
    with WP 3.9 and BP 2 :
    – any photo plugin that is working : user albums and commenting from both stream and individual photo page – rtmedia is not working (BuddyPics on github will work but no albums and photo tags)
    – “Likes” what is working with WP 3.9 nad BP 2
    – any event plugin that lets user say they will join / not join / maybe

Kleo theme original site seems to be away for maintainance, and their BP support is upto BP 1.9 it seems. No demo for Kleo theme for WP 3.9 and BP 2. ??

Your site is sending no emails but directly registering.

What is the template you are using for blog page, and what plugin for “Likes”?
Is it compatible with BP 2 and WP 3.9?

I am not sure if this will work but you can visit yoursite/wordpress/wp-admin/network/admin.php?page=bp-tools and try “Repair user “last activity” data”

That said, there have been plugins that attempted to fill this void

Can you or anyone please post uri of such plugin that works with WordPress 3.9 Beta 3 +BuddyPress 2.0 Beta 1.

“everything in BuddyPress is loosely considered public.”

But isn’t BP meant to be a social net (a network that cares about privacy) ? Thanks for responding and replying.

Thanks for all the input. BUT I am seriously and urgently looking for a media (only photo will do) plug in – paid or free – that will allow just 3 things without any hitch or bump for BUDDYPRESS 1.7 beta :

    • ability to create album and upload photo with chosen privacy
    • ability to directly mark or tag on photo</li
    • comment to a photo from both activity stream and on the page itself`

BP Album is broken with BP 1.7
BP Media photo commenting from activity stream is buggy+ it has no photo marking
BuddyPics  keeps on giving error message : Warning: Division by zero in C:\xampp\htdocs\wordpress\wp-content\plugins\BuddyPics-master\includes\bpa.template.tags.php on line 84 etc and does not actually upload a photo (fresh install of latest WP, BP 1.7, no other plugin)

BP Gallery – does it work ok with BP 1.7? Does it allow photo marking? Please answer if you know, also a link to a demo site with BP gallery + photo marking + BP 1.7 beta will be really really helpful.

Demand is a strange thing, many users will come and download, and see that “basic”features are not there and will just move away to other scripts silently without much complaining.

Features are more or less defined by current standards OR like Apple who innovate and people think, OMG we did need this!

All real world social nets as well as scripts like Elgg, Oxwall etc have working media and event – it does NOT matter to most of us if it is in core or plug in because at the end of the day users of my site will use it, and it matters to them if they are able to use it satisfactorily and upto their current set of expectations.

I really have waited for 3 years or more, made repeated requests ….

Media – at its very basic should have photos/albums and ability to comment both from activity stream and in the page itself ( same comment) plus mark directly on photo.

Event – at its very basic – who will attend – Yes | No | Maybe

OT – commenting to blog from activity stream was never incorporated as well as privacy setting for blog ( friends only etc) AND inabilty to have different class/group of friends have been there for too long.

@mercime  Thanks! Events Manager is too convoluted and does not have basic features of an Event plugin ( who will attend/ not attend/may attend) – it is also not integrated with activity stream, that is, no comments can be made from activity stream to the event. In comparison – you can see oxwall.org which comes with integrated event (as well as photo)

BP Album is broken with BP 1.7 while BP Media is buggy with 1.7 and lacks tagging or marking directly on photo, a basic feature that is part of all real world social nets as well as scripts like elgg (free) or phpfox(paid).
