In reply to: BuddyPress Not Appearing in Plugins
hi Donnacha
Let me clarify first.
It is not the case.the bleeding version of Buddypress can be installed from the downloaded archive from
https://trac.buddypress.org/browser/trunk
I have done it successfully on my local windows install(I run your great work wpmu on my local windows for testing
)Please try uploading a stable release of buddypress in wp-content/plugins and see ,if it is appearing ?
If not,then must have something to with the server,
If yes, then further investigation will be required,may be a word from Andy or someone who has done it on Mac will be great.
In reply to: Error: Site Wide Activity widget (RSS feed)you are most welcome
In reply to: Can figure out how to admin bbpress.no,the forum(the one which you have not installed externally) is associated with groups.
When you create a group and allow associating forums with it, you can manage that forum from the Group admin screen.
That’s what Xevo pointed.
Hope It helps.
In reply to: Error: Site Wide Activity widget (RSS feed)the problem seems to be because of multibyte character set(As far as the error is showing).
here is a similar problem reported for forum and Andy suggested to upgrade to php5.
https://trac.buddypress.org/ticket/658
Checkout there
Hope it helps
In reply to: BuddyPress Not Appearing in Pluginshi Donnacha
I tried the trunk version on revision 2163.
If you are logged in as site admin,the buddypress will be listed in your plugins,if you are logged in as normal admin,It will not be listed in your plugins.
Hope it helps.
ok,here are my thoughts and I will like to go into more details,so would love to hear from everyone of you who has / or is facing this issue.
1.De activate buddypress/buddypress dependent plugin
2.Upgrade buddypress
3.activate it sitewide .
I hope,if you de activated it before upgrading,activation will not generate error,as I have tried on 3 different installs,and I believe the root cause of the error is the sitewide activated plugin upgrade mechanism.
So,It will help everyone ,if the people who go through this ,post their experiences here.May be it can help in investigating further the causes.
this is not a problem.
Please remove/delete the older one (you had renamed) and go again to plugins.activate the new one.
btw ,there will be a small information saying buddypress v 1.1.3 on the plugins page,you may look for that
Edit:This is my reply for your previous post about redundancy,I just found your new post too.
is buddypress 1.1.3 or any prior version is in mu-plugins dir.
It will be better ,if you can post the complete error.
like unable to declare in /home/myaccount/whatever/wp-content/plugin/bp-activity style.
Well,I had seen this issue so many times,so I experimented.
If your plugin is activated sitewide(which is almost true in case of buddypress) ,It is going to give you at least one such error(try with other sitewide activated plugins by upgrading them).
So this is not an issue with the buddypress but the problem is with the updating/activation of site wide activated plugins in wpmu as far as I see.
Easy work around(if you don’t want to see this problem)
1.Login to dashboard
2.deactivate buddypress
3.upgrade buddypress
4.Activate again
You will never find this problem again.
In reply to: Need WPMU/BuddyPress Developers\’ Opinionobviously yes.Just turnoff the blogging and let the users register for the username only.So you have all the features except the blogging there.
and as far as server requirement is concerned,when blogging is turned off,the database size is small enough for your server and load is just ok ok.
Again,this is what I think with my experiences, and I think,wpmu+buddypress is best suited for your need(better than elgg ,as the wp community is much more versatile than the limited options available with elgg).
In reply to: Change the Update Status promptfor default theme, you can look here
bp-sn-parent/status/post-form.php
here you will see the line and the code for the form.If you are using different theme(other than bp-default ,checkout yourtheme/status/post-form.php
It should be there.
In reply to: Linking words in user profilehave a look at this plugin.
It should be helpful
https://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/custom-profile-filters-for-buddypress/
In reply to: Modify profile pagewell,The userbar and options bar are included in header.php using the following code
<?php if ( !bp_is_blog_page() && !bp_is_directory() && !bp_is_register_page() && !bp_is_activation_page() ) : ?>
<?php locate_template( array( 'userbar.php' ), true ) /* Load the user navigation */ ?>
<?php locate_template( array( 'optionsbar.php' ), true ) /* Load the currently displayed object navigation */ ?>
<?php endif; ?>Check your header.php and you can remove it from there or assign somewhere else.
For editing userbar/optionsbar ,have a look at the userbar.php and the optionsbar.php
Check out them and change manually as you want.
In reply to: Add extra sections to membershey,well,I guess,A little experimentation is required.
I am leaving for today ,so will take a look at it tomorrow and post the sample.
anyone else till then ,if you know post please,
In reply to: Add extra sections to membersgreat
In reply to: Add extra sections to membersok,so here you go.
The links are displayed by
bp_get_displayed_user_nav()You can modify it using the following code inside your functions.php
global $bp;
if(!bp_is_home())
$bp->bp_nav[110]=array ( 'name' => 'test','link' => 'test/', 'css_id' =>'test','show_for_displayed_user' => 1 ,'position' => 110 );replace test with your link/component name
Then create some function to handle the link,as shown in the example component.
Again remember,when you are viewing other’s profile ,the function
bp_get_loggedin_user_nav()and
bp_get_displayed_user_nav()Uses same global variable
$bp->bp_navto render the navigation,so The link will appear in the userbar for logged in user and in the options bar for the displayed profile.
Have a look at the code of the two above mentioned methods to look for a workaround.
well, you can ,but it is hardcoded in the bp-activity/bp-activity-templatetags.php
Open this file
and take a look at the function
bp_activity_templateYou will see something there
like
$this->pag_links = paginate_links( array(
'base' => add_query_arg( 'acpage', '%#%' ),
'format' => '',
'total' => ceil( (int)$this->total_activity_count / (int)$this->pag_num ),
'current' => (int)$this->pag_page,
'prev_text' => '«',
'next_text' => '»',
'mid_size' => 1
));Change the mid_size value from 1 to what ever you want.
Hope it helps.
In reply to: Add extra sections to membershi
That thing(adding extra menu to options bar) is possible(well,I think so),But The options bar is component dependent when a user is logged in and is on his/her profile.So how do you plan to add extra item to option bar,for which component you want to add this extra nav there ?
In reply to: functions.php in child theme?yeh,Travel-Junkie is right.There should be no clash between the name of functions declared in parent theme’s functions.php and child theme’s functions.php
In reply to: Where is the members component?look at the optionsbar.php and userbar.php inside your theme directory
Is that a premium theme ?,I don’t have access to it,so my opinion may not be good enough.But I hope,you can achieve it using the following approach.
1.Do some css modification,that can help you to make it 2 column
if not then.
Look at the function
bp_get_the_profile_field_options in bp-xprofile-templatetags.php, Here resides the logic for what you are looking for.
But Note,editing this is not a good idea,so better try it using css.
In reply to: next release dates for BP 1.1.3 / BP 1.2 ?wow,that’s great Andy
In reply to: Add extra sections to membersWell, This component is excellent at showing you how to add the links in userbar/options bar have a look at
bp_example_setup_nav() ,It is doing the same you want,but for a dummy thing.
bp_core_new_nav_item,this is the methods which allows to to add links to user bar.Investigate a little more, you will see show it works
In reply to: Buddymatic theme frameworkbtw,try to re save the permalink ,and It will be hopefully solved.
try this
Dashboard->settings->permalink
and just click save.
Go and check,this should solve your problem.In WordPress Mu 2.8.x I have seen this as a common issue and after re saving the permalink ,the problem went away most of the times.
In reply to: Add extra sections to membersYes, you are right.You need to create a custom component.
here is a great way to start.
Download the skeleton component from here and have a look, you will see ,how can you do it.
