I’ve been trying to figure this out as well.
Happy to say that: bp_is_groups_component() && ‘myGroupSlug’ == bp_current_item() works on my install with WP 3.0 beta.
This is a longstanding issue with WP/WPMU/BP. I’m not sure why in 3.0 the existing profile page wasn’t discontinued in favour of something that doesn’t require access to admin and that would be trumped if a BP install was present.
I’m having no trouble with poEdit and have successfully made changes to my .po file to create new .mo file for BuddyPress. What I’d like to know is whether changing the term ‘groups’ throughout my site will affect the use of plugins that specifically call for ‘groups’?
Anyone know if this is an issue?
So if I change the ‘Groups’ label throughout my site, will that create issues with plugins created for ‘Groups’? Will the change in terminology cause issues with these plugins?
Updated – I’ve successfully created a new .mo file to change labels across BP. My question is what to do if I wish to further update that file down the road? Do I delete the existing .mo file and simply execute the new .mo again?
Works great as advertised!
Thx
Use the widget logic plugin to add a text widget to your members page via bp conditional tags.
@Bowe Holy smokes, you’re right! BP conditional tags work in widget logic plugin on wpmu 2.9.2 using subdomains with bp 1.2.3. Nice!
@Bowe You say the plugin works with BP conditional tags? Please elaborate!
You did a complete reinstall of what? WP plus BP?
I hadn’t tried changing to public, but when I do it lists the group but when I try to post the topic it won’t save.
The plugin referenced above works fine for me on a new install.
Same issue here…new install and can’t add forum topics as bp doesn’t list groups in the dropdown menu.
I’ll try again…
Yeah, I was hoping there might be another solution.
OK, so I have ‘groups’ slugs successfully customized to ‘companies’ by using wp-config.
Is there a way to replace all instances of ‘Groups’ in favour of Companies throughout a BP site other than using the guide to customize labels with a language file, etc.?
This may be pertinent, but I am using the Widget Logic plugin to control widgets across my install. It’s been great but I’m not sure how to control the logic for BuddyPress pages or if it’s even possible.
For example, “!is_home() && is_user_logged_in()” allows me to place a widget in the sidebar anywhere but home where the user is logged in, but how might I use that logic to place it specifically on the Groups page, for example?
Thx
Yeah I’ve done that…it’s not the issue.
Tried that but it doesn’t seem to be working. I’m using a child theme of Genesis framework.
White screen of death.
Tried your example to limit activity to just updates but it’s not working in my install. (wpmu 2.92 and bp 1.2.3 with child theme)
Awesome feedback…will try some of these suggestions.
I’ve been trying this plugin with wpmu 2.9.2 and 1.2.3 and it works great…until you try extending the logic to buddypress generated pages. That may be my fault, not understanding the correct formatting for the conditional tags.
Can someone suggest the correct logic to use for, say: “siteurl/groups/mygroupname”?
Cheers
Has anyone successfully converted any of woothemes products, say Canvas or CityGuide? They too seem to fight the conventional formatting suggested in the template pack.
