    see wp_usermeta table

    There should be, per member, a row for each notification setting

    Messages send is okay.
    Just sent to kizmark and oz_admin

    You have to use the correct name: kiz mark will fail.

    >is that hard to make?

    Not if you understand S2, mysql and pre-query BP filters

    @shanebp

    Moderator

    You need to apply a filter to the activity sql.

    You can contact me via PhiloPress

    Or post at Jobs

    BP also hard-codes urls all over the place instead of making them relative.
    Dunno why. Perhaps there is some setting to avoid this?
    And what about serialized strings?

    So use this:
    search / replace

    The stray posts never appear in the group stream?
    Or don’t appear until some hours have past?

    Inconsistent behaviour is a tough bug.
    But at least it’s specific to Group forums.

    Are you using Page Caching in the cache plugins?
    That can cause BP problems re serving stale pages, but you most likely would have seen that issue elsewhere on your site as well.

    Have you raised this issue on the bbPress forums?

    You’ll probably have to comb thru the database for activity entries.
    And try to eliminate the possibility of a malformed row in the context of the group stream.

    To make ‘Profile’ the default tag on a member’s page, put this in wp-config

    define( 'BP_DEFAULT_COMPONENT', 'profile' );

    Re ‘I fixed that issue by editing the bp-custom.php. ‘

    We have no idea what you did or why.
    If the Profile subnav is not showing up, then you have some other problems, probably theme related.
    Change your theme to the WP 2012 and see if the problem exists.
    If not, it’s your theme or custom code.

    Client wants Extended Profiles turned off, so the override was profile-wp, not profile-loop

    now working thanks to @hnla

    pls mark as resolved.

    no luck, but also tried over-writing
    /wp-content/plugins/headway-community-builder/templates/members/single/profile/profile-loop.php

    fyi – just in case, tried using
    add_theme_support( 'buddypress' );
    but it trashes the layout

    echo get_the_author_id() first to make sure it has a value.

    If it doesn’t, xprofile_get_field_data will return nothing.

    also – If the profile field in question is empty, nothing will be returned.

    just fyi: the data is not stored in an array.
    It is stored as a serialized string.
    Depending on the multi_format value, that string can be returned as an array (and handled in a loop) or as a csv string.

    boone was kind enough to add the multi_format var awhile back so that we don’t always need to check type on the returned value in customized displays.

    I’ve worked on sites using WishList and BP and have not seen an avatar issue.

    So it’s probably an issue with the avatar path created by Profile Builder.

    I’ve sent you an email.

    To return a csv string rather than array, try:

    xprofile_get_field_data( 'Specialist Sectors', get_the_author_id(), $multi_format = 'comma' )

    That approach is okay, but it’s post query.
    Starting in 1.7 there are some pre_query hooks. And I think more in 1.8.
    Those hooks are very handy, especially on big sites where performance is an issue.

    In this context, you would:
    Gather all the ids in the stated range
    And exclude them from the member query – take a look at the bp_pre_user_query_construct hook.

    While very doable, this will require custom coding.

    You need to state which versions of WP & BP you use.

    You want to ‘hide’ the profile page for a member who hasn’t paid their dues?
    What should happen if that page is accessed by that member or another member?
    Redirect? Custom message page ?

    If ‘paid dues’ is a boolean, then it’s easy to write a function.
    Where is that boolean stored?

    Does that member still appear on the Members page? In the Activity stream?

    iow. you need to be more specific about the behaviour that you want.

    @shanebp

    Or use the unfiltered_uri, for example…

    function restrict_access(){
     global $bp_unfiltered_uri;

     if ( !is_user_logged_in() && !bp_is_register_page() && !bp_is_activation_page() && ( $bp_unfiltered_uri[0] != 'some-slug') )
      bp_core_redirect( get_option('home') . '/register' );

    }
    add_action( 'wp', 'restrict_access', 3 );

    >how is this ‘too complicated’?
    Can you code it?
    How would you explain it to membership?

    >the user doesn’t know that they are in a sandbox
    lol, and that won’t lead to a flurry of support submissions?

    For public sites, there has to be a balance between driving membership numbers and ‘protecting’ existing members.
    An abuse / spam flag system strikes that balance & members will recognize it & admins only deal with flags. If admins handle the flags in a timely fashion, the membership response will be very positive.

    Your idea is kinda interesting, but dev’ing a generic solution will be impossible.
    If you release it as a plugin, damn near everyone using it will ask for some kind of tweak.

    That said, prove me wrong, please!

    @shanebp

    Moderator

    Too complicated, imo.

    Harnessing the membership for these kinds of things is a tried & proven technique.

    In this context, provide a flagging system to bring activity to the attention of admins.
    And provide content sweeping and IP blocking via htaccess for repeat offenders.
    Not difficult to write.
    I’ve done it for large BP sites and no doubt so have others.

    @shanebp

    You don’t state which version of BP you’re using.

    >as soon I start searching (whether it’s the name of the member, or part of the address) the groups-loop stops working.

    If I understand you correctly, bp_has_groups doesn’t ‘work’ if you include search terms.

    Perhaps it is working but the search terms are not being found, so no groups are being returned.
    I’m not positive, but I think the search is only on the name and description of a group.
    Take a look at function search_groups in bp-groups-classes.php

    @shanebp

    >I also know the bp_get_member_user_id() is working perfectly inside the user-loop, so that shouldn’t be the issue either.

    Classic mistake. Don’t assume – check it.
    Create a string and echo it out.

    $user_id = bp_get_member_user_id();
    echo 'user_id: ' . $user_id;

    $args = array(
         'type' => 'alphabetical',
         'user_id' => $user_id
    );
    if ( bp_has_groups ( $args ) ) { ...

    There is no ‘paid level of support’ within this site.
    BuddyPress has a very ‘internalized’ business model.

    You can post a call for developers here:
