    If they aren’t sending, you have a less specific problem.

    In BP 1.7beta2, this sends the email:

    `groups_notification_membership_request_completed()
    in
    bp-groups/bp-groups-notifications.php`

    If you are getting internal notifications but no email, make sure your install can send any email.

    Default behavior is to send the member an email when their request is approved or denied.

    Are those emails not being sent ?

    @chouf1 –

    I don’t think members is a component.

    What does bp_user_query have to do with the OP’s question ?

    What about this ?

    `if ( 0 == bp_displayed_user_id() )
    //show the widget
    `

    >why all the spaghetti?
    The client didn’t want it to be obvious to a blocked member that they had been blocked.
    So it required at lot of intercepting, etc.

    What you describe is quite simple and would probably be enough.
    But most requests for this kind of plugin ask for site-wide invisibility – another beast entirely.

    I’m also interested in an answer to your question.

    There used to be this bool, but no longer:
    `$is_member_page`

    You could check $bp_unfiltered_uri[0] but I’m not sure that will work if you also have
    `define ( ‘BP_ENABLE_ROOT_PROFILES’, true );`

    I believe your report is covered by:
    https://buddypress.trac.wordpress.org/ticket/4573

    It’s a gremlin that doesn’t appear for most installs.
    It’s been reported in various guises for quite awhile.
    I was hoping that forcing a value into gmt_offset would solve it for you. :{

    Yes, it was an undo.
    My guess was that it was related to an issue where timezone is set via wp-admin, but gmt_offset remains empty.

    I haven’t looked at the ajax re your report, but that would be the next step.

    @shanebp

    You’ll need to paste this snip in bp-custom, load the site, and then remove the snip.

    `update_option( ‘gmt_offset’, ‘0’ );`

    @shanebp

    Moderator

    Do you feel comfortable adding a code snippet to bp-custom.php or your theme’s functions.php ?

    If so, try adding this:

    `update_option( ‘gmt_offset’, ‘-5’ );`

    And then see if the problem still exists.
    Either way, remove that snippet after testing.
    And let us know what happened.

    And your timezone is EST ?
    And in wp-admin/settings you’ve chosen an East Coast city in the timezone option ?

    What version of WP and BP are you using ?

    @bphelp this conversation should be taking place in the Issues area of the git repo.

    If a moderator could truncate our conversation on this thread, that would be great.

    I can’t duplicate what you state.
    I’m not checking roles (admin, etc) at all.

    I do know it’s easy to get confused while testing.
    And I forgot to _not show the block button when viewing your own profile.
    That’s been fixed and is in the git repo if you’d like to try again.

    One thing to try is to have everyone block user2.
    Then user2 should only see themselves in Members and Activity.

    > Is there a way to turn those debug messages on and off?
    Sure, just comment out or delete those ‘echo’ lines.

    > The plugin that caused the error …
    Thanks for the update.
    Possible conflicts with other plugins (not to mention BP itself) is something I expect since I’m messing with core queries.
    But it’s a good way to get familiar with all the good query changes that Boone, et al, made for 1.7.

    this ugly code appears

    Those are debug messages, viewing the custom sql – not errors.
    I could have made that clearer.

    Also after you press the block button the text “block” turns into “error!”

    Now, that is an error.
    I’d appreciate knowing the exact steps that lead to it.

    And whether you are invisible, in spite of the error, when the blocked member opens ‘Members’ or ‘Activity’.

    You should delete and reinstall the plugin first – to make sure the table is fresh.
    Also – your OS and browser(s) ?

    I’ve tested it on Win 7, in Chrome, IE 8 and FF 12.

    In reply to: zenthemes?

    @shanebp

    I’ve never used zenthemes.

    But their Buddies theme page says:
    “WordPress 3.3.1 & BuddyPress 1.5.3.1, bbPress 2 compatible”

    So it’s out of date – should be at least WP 3.5 and BP 1.6

    Take a look at xprofile_filter_link_profile_data() in bp-xprofile-filters.php
    I think you can call it directly.

    Or you can just build your own href strings.
    They’re very simple –

    `site_url() . /members/?s= . [ field_value] rel=”nofollow”> [ field_value]`

    The simplest ( and imo only viable ) approach would be an app wrapper.
    All it does is launch the site in a browser.
    Use of a wrapper is usually done just so that an app store listing can be created.

    @mercime – thanks for reporting re the bug test plugin.

    @djpaul – Blast away! Thanks.

    >P.P.S. Do I still need to do the bug test?

    No need re BP Member Notes.

    But it might be useful re the larger context of why the fatal error occurred.
    The plugin file should never have loaded – due to the standard bp_include check in the loader.

    If my guess is correct, the bug test plugin will load, on your install, even if BP is deactivated.

    As I said, no big deal, just curious.
    I’ll leave the bug test plugin up on git – it might be useful to you down the road.

    @mercime

    I’m curious about what caused the error on your install, while no errors on mine.
    So I created a simple plugin to test for whether BP is activated here:
    https://github.com/shanebp/a-bug-test

    No biggee, just wondering…

    Thanks for the new issue report.
    I can’t duplicate, but made a tweak.
    Could you please test again ?

    > & a customised plugin to allow users to create a post with some custom fields

    > 1. wp_posts is updated
    > 2. post added to activity stream
    > 3. wp_postmeta is updated

    And this all happens in the ‘customized plugin’ ?
    As well as your email function ? Which you call last ?

    If you aren’t sure which function is sending out your email, look at wp_mail.
    It has an apply_filters hook at the top.
    At least you can exclude or confirm that.
    ( And the whole function is pluggable – so you can over-ride it. )

    Long Shot – try:
    -setting your cpt to draft status
    -do your activity and postmeta handling
    -set your cpt status to publish
    -send your email

    Maybe this?

    `if ( version_compare( BP_VERSION, ‘1.7’, ‘<' ) )`
