Certainly not showing off – but I’d love some feedback. You can get the jist of what we’ve built here – really basic, but just trying to see if Buddypress can really solve our problems.

Our issues to-date are no way of validating users and ensuring we want them to successfully register. Second issue is the email that is sent to approve a group addition (links are broken). Third issue is a trying to find a way to prevent registered users (subscribers) from creating groups, while not preventing them from participating.

Gigya Socialize worked for my install… I’ve only tried myspace, facebook and twitter – but it authenticated me correctly and I was able to login to BuddyPress. Only issue I’m having is that each time you login with one of your social usernames, it creates a new username in WPMU/BuddyPress, as opposed to all tying to your one WPMU/BuddyPress account. This created havoc for me, since I want to use groups, and other permissions.

At this point, I’m leaning towards limiting to just the Facebook login. Does anyone know if there is a way to hide/not allow login using the actual wordpress login, and ONLY use the login for Gigya Socialize? I/e allow users to go to wp-admin, but not give them the option to login using the user/pass – only letting them see the Gigya Socialize plugin.

Any update to this? Seems like someone was on to something – exactly what I need… a way to moderate the list of user registrations before it’s accepted. Any ideas – progress here?

Only note to consider with this members-only plugin is that it redirects users trying to get to the main blog/site, but if they have URL’s to other “pages” members pages, etc… they can get to those directly. The redirect doesn’t apply to those pages/sections. (at least not yet)

If you find a solution to this problem wpmu/buddypress-wide, please let me know. I’m looking for a similar solution.

Can someone confirm whether this is a known with no current fix in the existing version or plugins?

I am getting the emails appropriately, but when I click on the link to approve/accept the group add, it gives me a website with “WordPress Failure Notice” at the browser title, and it asks “Are you sure you want to do this?” But it has no option for me to select yes, or check anything to actually approve. So this is still in the queue.

Similarly, I cannot reject the request – and if I click on the link in the email that says to view the request, it takes me to the user’s profile – but the request is not listed. In fact, in his of groups, it lists (1) as the number of groups (assuming because he requested), but then underneath it says he “hasn’t joined any groups yet.”

Hey Mike – did you get a response to this? I am in a similar situation. I want anyone to be able to register, but I want to be able to approve it before they can begin using.

As an alternative, is there a way to make the default role/profile something read-only, or with limited access – and then part of the setup process is for me to change to a higher role/profile with full access once I’ve reviewed? I’m not familiar with the role set up, etc.

I’d prefer just a simple approval process in the system. Thanks!
