Add activity stream onto individual activity page

Is there a way to add an activity stream to the individual permalink activity pages so that when someone clicks through to these pages they can see other activities going on around the site?
I’ve tried added an activity widget under the content of the page template, but this breaks the template – presumably an issue around adding 2 streams to a page?
