Blog Avatar?
-
I guess I never paid attention, but blogs are assigned avatars that it doesn’t appear can be changed anywhere yet… Am I missing, or on to, something here?
-
yes, blog avatars can’t be changed.
Well that seems a little silly… I wonder why that is… Not being a pest, and certainly not being critical of anyone’s work, but it’s just odd is all…
Well, you can always post a feature request in the trac.
I thought it was silly to have blog Avatars….the avatars for the blog should be the blog owner’s avatar…
@stevefdl, I don’t think I agree with you there. It’s a nice option to have, and gives the group a customized feel. What do you do when the owner changes their avatar? How do you make them cross aware? Seems like a hassle considering it’s possible to not even have either/or capability installed.
I would think taking the group avatar code and making it work for forums wouldn’t be too difficult, but I’ve been known to be wrong before.
@johnjames…we are talking about blog avatars, and not group avatars….
There is NO WAY to change a blog avatar…so I believe it should be the user’s avatar.
Group avatars are fine…not talking about those…
One blog does not necessarily have one author.
@steve, haha whoops! I honestly read your post and thought you said groups… I retract my previous statement then, considering I started this topic, you’d think I could stay on track.
And that’s a good point about blog authors and admins. What if one resigns? Etc…
@ apeatling…Most do.
In any case…allowing the avatar to be changed would solve SOME problems.
But, I have a feeling that most people are not going to know their blog even has an avatar until they stumble upon the blog directory.
The admin should have the ability to set blog avatar options to “owner” by default, rather then some random tile.
My directory currently looks ugly with all the tiles…
I’m all about options.
@johnjames…mo problem at all
oooh oooh, Mr. Kotter!…
I didn’t realize the blog avatars weren’t able to be changed until I read this thread. I’m still developing the site and learning BP.
This would not only be a welcome functionality for blog owners to be able to “brand” their sites better, but would allow site admins to have better looking blog directories, plain and simple.
Now, with that said, and I’m not quite sure how this would fit into BP because I don’t currently have this plugin running on my install, but there is a “premium” plugin for WPMU available for blog avatars, named accordingly, “Avatars”. You can find it here:
http://premium.wpmudev.org/project/avatars
So, does this need to be an official feature request?
p.s. If you don’t get the reference of the first line of this thread, see here http://i102.photobucket.com/albums/m90/awolski/Horshack.jpg and here http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0072582/usercomments
That’s actually kind of neat, and it would be a good starting point to port over to BuddyPress. The fact that it’s a “premium” theme however probably doesn’t put it under the GPL, so a new method might need to be arranged.
I’ve taken a better look at this, and I think I can actually score most of the code I would need from the groups area of BuddyPress.
Andy, can you confirm for me that you’re not already working on this officially? If you’re not, I’d love to give it a try.
Wondering if this is in the pipeline? I couldn’t find it in the trac.
Would be nice to see a “Change Blog Avatar” option in the “My Blogs” wp-admin-bar.
Found it – https://trac.buddypress.org/ticket/192
Any updates?
This is on the roadmap for 1.4, but may make it in sooner if I can help it.
wpmudev.org has a paid plugin to enable users to upload blog avatars. But not sure if it also works for BuddyPress…
we can have a screenshot of blog for blog avatar. There are many free auto screenshot services over the internet that can be useful
@Mohit You are very right. Blog avatar simply replaced by such service is just fine for me.
