I’m testing this plugin on the localhost with xampp.
    with :
    PHP Version 5.2.9
    Wordpress 3.0.1
    Buddypress 1.2.5.2

but the plugin is not working and is displaying a fatal error :
    __________________________________________________________________
Fatal error: Call to a member function getName() on a non-object in C:xampphtdocsjiyobanglawp-contentpluginsbuddypress-ajax-chatbp-chatchatlibclassAJAXChat.php on line 124

    any solutions ?

I cannot install it on the live site as it is not working in localhost.

I would first try checking with the plugin author: @dfa3272008

You could also try contacting him via his forum: http://getpaidfrom.us/groups/buddypress-ajax-chat-support/forum/

yes I have visited the authors forum found no actual solution , approx 4 month ago somebody asked there the same question , and the answer from the author was as follows :
    ____________________________________________________________________________________
    Hi,
Sorry, if I answered this in another method. I can’t recall. But this looks like you either did one of two things:
    1. Have a space at the end of your bp-chat/chat/config.php file or
    2. You didn’t chmod 777 your bp-chat/config directory
    ____________________________________________________________________________________

it didn’t worked for me ; firstly there is no config.php chat directory , its actialy is under chat/lib directory ………
and as I’m using it in localhost windows host the option 2. is not needed … but in case of option 1. there was no extra space in the lib/config.php , yet it didn’t worked….

I visited the authors profile here , but it seems the author in inactive for a certain time as its showing no recent activity .

this version of buddypressajaxchat is said to be working fine with wp 3.0 , but I have also tried it with wp 3.0, but again didn’t worked ……..

any solution would be much appreciated as I’m craving for this plugin as there no much self-hosted chat for buddypress…..

p.s. = Phpfreechat plugin – https://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/phpfreechat/ – is working very fine with the present version of wp and bp

You might want to try out (ala Facebook chat) BP-Chat on beta by @sbrajesh http://buddydev.com/plugins/bp-chat/

I experienced the same issue on my local dev server, but once I enabled the plugin online it works fine.
I suspect the issue is down to which php modules are(n’t) enabled in my MAMP install, but are enabled on my host.

I think it happens only on local setup and specially when buddypress is accessed via http://localhost/… ? Is that correct ?

It does work on live servers and local machines having a vhost setup (http://www.WHATEVERYOUWANT.SOMETHING).

The plugin does not create cookies on local machine (comparing both phpinfo() outputs), is it related to cookies on localhost (http://stackoverflow.com/questions/1134290/cookies-on-localhost-with-explicit-domain) ?

    Thanks for help.

    Hi,

I didn’t realize this was a problem. I’ll go patch it today. Easy fix. Please friend me or something if there’s a problem. I didn’t see this one until someone on the wordpress forum pinged me. I’m happy to fix stuff, just need to know ;)

    Thanks,
    Dave

Thanks for looking at it @Dfa327, I remembered you writing somewhere you prefer we report bugs somewhere else but I could not sign up at the time I have tried.

Is the fix suppose to be in 1.3.6 version of the plugin ? If so, I report the problem still occurs.

Thanks for letting us know when you will fix it,
    flips
