Buddypress phone app

I’ve thought about this for years and searched for the others Q&A on this (which are all dated rather a long time ago) so I’d like to ask, does buddypress now come with the necessary API’s for phone app developers to make apps that aren’t simply web pages?

Do we still depend on mobile themes ?

Is it possible to make up the necessary API’s via third party to enable a buddypress phone app?

Any feedback would be welcome, thank you

Do these work with BP1.7? They don’t say that they do.

I don’t want to hijack your topic. But. I am looking for buddypress support in Hong Kong and wondered whether you know of other buddypress users in Hong Kong. If so, Please let me know on giles @ xtrain.biz.

    Many thanks

@modemlooper would you be interested in a contract to develop the api or oversee another developer …i won’t be able to find anymore more knowledgeable on this that yourself so seems like a perfect fit what do you think? maybe we could start a kick starter type project for this to raise the funds from any buddypress users who are wanting to get an app going ..from what i understand it will be much easier for iphone / android developers to create an app if there is an api correct?

Hi – we are about to kick off dev on a proper (android 1st/ios 2nd) Buddypress application – if anyone is interested in getting involved you can find me at http://smeak.com. I have a “small” budget allocated to this project, working with an Indian based dev company to basically provide “FB app clone” functionality for BP – but really would like some involvement from the BP community on this.

According to dev co the initial release with basic BP functionality (as in sign up/login/post status, friends list, wall updates, upload image etc) will be ready in 40 days….

Hi, I’m currently working on an application that can be submitted to the stores. It will be available at Buddy Sidekick

@bradlyr – Can you give me more details? I’m looking for some code to start out as a base for a buddypress / bbpress app for our site. Are you writing that?

All the details can be found at the link I provided above, but essentially it utilizes PhoneGap which allows you to write in HTML, CSS, and JS. You can submit your code to App Store and Play store. I am writing the plugin needed to communicate with the application and the application that will be submitted to the store. With both of these pieces you will be able to have a mobile application in both stores and directly communicates with your WordPress/Buddypress website.

Do your app will have the capacity to display wordpress blog articles and some RSS flux (used for custom post type display) ?
