Cannot Update Group Avatar…or ANY Avatar…or Group Cover Photos!! :/

    Hi all.

This happens when I try to upload any photo to be used as an avatar — for users and groups. Also, it happens when I want to upload a photo for a group cover photo too!! :/

I click the option to upload an image. It goes to my computer, I choose an image. It takes me back to the screen I was at. AND THEN IMMEDIATELY the window opens back up again to upload a file from my computer. This time I choose the same photo. And the window disappears again and I’m back at the page I was at when I initiated the upload of a photo. BUT then there is a green bar that appears — apparently telling me I uploaded it successfully and the upload is finished. GREAT! Except one thing: there is no way to “save” it.

The “twice appearing” file window that pops up is disturbing. Especially so because I am not clicking the upload window again; the system seems to have, lol….some sort of, er….’stutter’….like it’s trying REAL hard to do its job, lol. But on the second attempt, even though it fully uploads (I assume as such, because a little green progress bar appears and it’s full)………there is no way to save it. So, I think the “twice upload” thing is annoying and likely a sign of issues, but I could tolerate it if there was a way to save the dang thing upon completion of the second upload attempt by the system….

I’m attaching via link a screenshot for reference. This is what I see upon completion of the second attempt by the BuddyPress system. And once again, I want to stress that this happens for ANY upload to the BuddyPress system — group avatars, personal profile avatars, and cover photos….

I’ve disabled plugins, by the way, and no disabling of plugins has helped resolve this. Unfortunately.

    Thoughts?

Thanks in advance for any and all help.

P.S.: I can now update cover photos; Autoptimize was preventing that from happening. Was also preventing using TinyMCE in forums to upload photos.

NOW BOTH those things work (THANK GOD)….but the Avatar is STILL not being allowed to upload.

Note: when I disable a “Reorder” plugin, which reorders javascript and style sheets, I can upload avatars, but the entire back end no longer functions well — it’s as if scripts are disabled. For example: if I’m in the Plugins screen and click the box where it selects all plugins, and that Reorder plugin is disabled….? Only the box I checked (the little one on top of the list for all plugins that SHOULD be activating all checkboxes to be checked when it’s checked)…..only that box gets checked. Nothing initializes. :/

I’ve since deleted Autoptimize but kept the Reorder plugin (because my site can’t function without it for now). I need a better solution. EITHER a way to make sure no “reordering” happens for BuddyPress (like a “do not reorder me” command or something similar)…..or a better “reordering plugin”….

    Thoughts?

@prashantvatsh I hate to be a bother….but there is no resolution to the avatar photo upload situation. Please forgive me for tagging you in this thread. If you would perhaps suggest a better plugin to reorder CSS and javascript, I would appreciate it. Or if there is a solution that I’m not thinking of here….please let me know. I would deeply appreciate it.

OH WOW, I just thought of something….if it’s “loading order” and it’s in the head, if I moved it to the footer that might help….so that’s what I did. Used the “re-order” plugin that my site seems to not be able to live without (LOL)….and got it to move scripts to the footer.

NOW the avatar can be changed!!! THANK GOD.

FYI, for now….unless something else goes “boom” this is resolved.

The plugin I’m talking about says it’ll be possibly discontinued in late 2018 (eek!)….so I hope if anyone is reading this it’s still in the WordPress library at wordpress (dot org)…..if not, perhaps you can hail the creators to send you a copy.

Here it is as it exists at this moment on the WordPress dot org site: https://wordpress.org/plugins/re-order-css-and-js-loading-order/

The creators of it say, “Description
Notice: This Plugin is no longer being actively developed or maintained. At the moment, we believe it to be fairly stable but that might not continue with future WordPress versions. We recommend you looks for an alternative plugin.

This plugin is likely to be deleted from the WordPress plugin directory late 2018 / early 2019.”

And their site is down. Looks like the company is dead. :/

Perhaps it’s gonna get forked on GitHub? No idea. The company name: HTML5andBeyond

If anyone else is having this issue, and can’t get that plugin, I suggest you find a way to get the scripts to go to the footer. That was what did the trick for me! 😀 Good luck…

Okay, I spoke too soon, LOL…..apparently that only works for 5 minutes, then something goes “back” to what it was, and the forbidding of uploading Avatars is re-instated.

And if I disable the “Re-Order” plugin, then I can upload Avatars…..but when that happens, the entire backend of the Admin panel no longer works. Everything freezes. So Javascript is likely involved somehow….or….I dunno, PHP??? What did the Re-Order plugin do to make it “essential” to the backend being able to be used — what the hell…!? LOL…

So. I need to find a way to initialize javascript for the backend again, while leaving javascript disabled when it comes to avatars being changed. I think. Or……something to be initialized that manages the backend……whatever that is, when it’s off, the avatars can be changed — but the backend is “frozen” and no plugins (like the duplicator plugin) can be initialized/used if it requires the user to click anything. Because NO clicks make any difference.
