Are there any good chat components that will work well with BuddyPress?

That post doesnt work, or is it because I need to register in order to see it?

That is an old url, due to WordPress naming policies he had to change his domain name, the correct link should now be:

    http://bp-dev.org/groups/chat-plug-in

Looks like there was no progress made.

For my site I have just inserted a simple java client for freenode IRC. This allows site members to either use the chat online or with their favorite irc client.

I have not used it before so I’m not endorsing this. But, FYI:

yep for now all developments are stopped,

the best way is to host an irc server and integrate chat in php, i-ve tried it for a projects it worked for groups chat,

another thing that could be done is a thing like a Shoutbox,

no time to work on it in these days,

    i ll update you soon

I have no personal connection with the site; I use http://chatroll.com. It looks good, integrates easily, it’s free, no adds, is customizable, and has some nice admin features including archives.

Chris I visited that website and it looks pretty good. I got a question tho, does it integrate with buddypress? Like, lets say I am in a chatroom, will people be able to see my profile over at Buddypress by clicking on my name on the chatroom?

It integrates in that you can embed the chat room into a page on your BP site. It was not written for BP/WPMU though so no, it does not reference your BP profile in any way. As far as I know, no group chat currently does that.

Hi all. I have the Toksta plugin on my site ndcom.com. The video and audio chat is pretty cool and doesn’t lag. The site doesn’t lag with this plugin either. My brother and I are developing this site for friends and family to stay connected.

However, I do have one problem. Everything works as it should, BUT if I have a video/audio chat with my brother, his avatar doesn’t show up (mine doesn’t show up either on his end). Instead, it’s the default image of a blue messenger icon and it has my brother’s name underneath. How can I get the Toksta plugin to pull the Avatar(s) of the people registered on my site?

Has anyone found a chat plugin that integrates with BuddyPress profiles?
