Hey, sorry to resurrect this thread, but I tried that plugin myself and it seems fine mostly, except I need the events to be private to groups and for group members to be able to create events.
Are there any alternatives that support this, or some (relatively easy) way to make that work?

I actually ended up having a programmer create something from scratch where the events are a page. Totally custom solution to get the look and functionality I wanted.
The end result ended up similar to Meetup.com and EventBright.

Thanks @allnamestaken – that’s pretty close to what I want as well, except that only admins can assign events to groups. I wonder how mod-able that is?

Any group member can assign an event to that group –
IF the group admin has selected that option –
IF the site admin allows group admins to select that option.
The free version does not support group assignment, but will give you a feel for the very simple nature of the plugin – as opposed to the ‘feature rich’ nature of other event plugins.
