Ok i understand what the plugin should do, that’s not much difficult to do,
this week i’ve lot of thing to do, so i’m not sure i’ll make this plugin,
if someone is interested to make this plugin asap could contact me to donate to bpdev
@nicolagreco
I already have a working External Blogs plugin. Requires SimplePie. It adds a new settings menu to set up an external blog and saves it to the user meta table. It’s displayed under Blogs > My Ext. Blogs and provides template tags for display in the front end.
The settings page has the following fields:
– Blog URL
– Check feed button (after entering the blog URL, the check feed button checks the blog for discoverable RSS feeds and reads the result into the following fields)
– Feed URL
– Blog Title
– Blog Description
Finally, the plugin also implements a user selectable blog avatar. Users can select from a number of pre defined thumbnails. This part could be taken out.)
All data is stored as one option in the user meta table.
As it is now, the plugin has specific wording and naming for our site requirements but that can be edited easily and modified to create a generic plugin. I can provide the plugin code to you if you want to use it as a base for a generic community plugin.
@phlux0r that’s awesome
share your code and i’ll make a plugin
Looks like we’ve got a solution in the pipeline, so I’m marking this one as resolved.
I’m going to leave this topic open for discussion about the topic until the official plugin becomes available, in case there are feature requests, etc…
@nicolagreco
How do I make the code available to you? Please give me a contact address at phlux0r at gmail dot com.
phlux0r with a zero .
So, is this still happening?
Phlux0r sent me the code, when i’ll have free time, i’ll convert the lines he’s written in a plugin
Nicola
Excellent, thanks Nicola!
Is this going to happen anytime soon? Maybe make the code available to those that have the time to do something with it?
Easter holidays stopped developments
The code is almost done, need to make it working with latest bp
Awesome, looking forward to it. Thanks for the hard work Nicola
I’m eagerly awaiting this plugin as well.
I have something similar at my current home-baked site; members can add an RSS feed to their profile, showing their blog on their profile page and the latest posts of all members on the members homepage.
My version uses SimplePie as well, but there’s a lot wrong with the code. It doesn’t properly check if the submitted URL is really an RSS feed for example.
And I would have no clue how to transport it to BuddyPress, with the complicated way profile data is stored over several tables.
Go Nicola Greco!
It would be great if we can get it around the same time as 1.0 final.
I had to study a lot these weeks, so i stopped development, i hope it will be released when the final will come
Has this plugin now been released with 1.0 final? What’s the latest news?
If it’s not listed or announced on bpdev, then obviously not.
It’s not good only to depend on Nicola for various plugins, but I can’t code. If any php/wpmu/buddypress developers are reading this, please consider giving some hands.
the code is almost completed, i have to remove dependencies to some flokka stuff, too much busy these weeks
@ Nicola Greco, thanks! Good to hear this will still happen. I’m too busy with other things as well. I should finish my site before September.
@nicolagreco, good to hear that this extremely useful plugin is almost ready, please let us know when it is fully cooked
Finals over yet?
How I wish I knew some PHP…
Im awaiting this plugin too..any updates Nicola?
